How much time do you roughly spend in the Kilburn building a week? I’ve been looking at Manchester as an option but the computer science building put me off a lot compared to the other ones I’ve been to like Leeds and Sheffield Thanks :)
@jennitirok3 ай бұрын
I actually spent most of my time in the new Engineering Building, and not so much in the Kilburn Building. This is because most of our classes, markings, and exams are held in the Eng Building, only group projects and certain course units are held in Kilburn Building!

Hii, how was the interview part of your admissions? Do u mind sharing some advice and maybe the kind of questions to expect?
@Vishnupriya-lk5os3 ай бұрын
and maybe some insights on what to include in your personal statement as well. I'm struggling a little with it and could really use some advice :)
@nabilaa793 ай бұрын
oh, i thought we only need personal statement for this course?
@jennitirok3 ай бұрын
Hii! not sure if this is dependent on the interviewer, but mine was super chill and informal! I was only asked about my experience relating to compsci based on what I wrote in my personal statement, and then I asked a bunch of questions about the course units and so we just spent the majority of the time talking about what to expect from the degree!
@jennitirok3 ай бұрын
not an expert in personal statements haha but these are what I emphasised in mine: - what intrigues/interests me, and how that relates to comp sci - what have i done towards that interest (reading books/papers, projects, etc) - what have i achieved (participate or won something, etc) - my other interests & achievements outside - how would taking this course help you achieve what you want to achieve

@@jennitirok Ohh what course did u do. I'm trying to work on a project myself but I still lack a lot of foundation-level skills. there are a few projects I did as part of online courses I did do u think I can talk about that in my sop

@@jennitirok thanks for the reply did you have 16gb or 8gb of ram?

i have the 16gb :)
@johanjobi18804 ай бұрын
@@jennitirok would you recommend the m2 air with 8gb ram for computer science. (Is it enough ram?)
@jennitirok4 ай бұрын
i used to have the macbook pro intel chip with 8gb ram during my first 2 years of uni, and it’s definitely enough! although the 16gb one might be a little faster when running vms!

Hi Omg I’m so happy I found this channel. I applied to u I of Manchester for computer science with a foundation year. Do you know anyone who has done a foundation year would the uni experience be any different from a direct undergrad course?
@jennitirok4 ай бұрын
Hii, you’re in luck hehe because I also did their foundation year before undergrad, and I would say it helped me a lot with transitioning from college to uni/independent life. In fact, most of my uni friends that I primarily hang out with until now are the ones I met in foundation year!
@priyaahkm42844 ай бұрын
@@jennitirokomgg no wayy Tysm for replying. Means a lot I’m interested in doing maths and computer science after completion of foundation year. Was the foundation year classes taken in the Kilburn building. Also do we have to move out of the dorm after foundation year?
@jennitirok4 ай бұрын
@@priyaahkm4284 it won’t be in Kilburn building as far as i’m updated. I had my fy classes in Renold building back in 2019, but not sure if it’s still the case. As for the accommodation, if you’re staying in UoM accom, yes, they only do per academic term so you would have to move out! Hope my answers help!😊

@@jennitirok it really did. Even I don’t have any programming backgrounds I initially was gonna do just a math degree but computer science does seem very interesting. But I’m really worried if I would not like feel the same way in uni. Is there any advice you can give when it comes to taking a computer science degree?
@jennitirok4 ай бұрын
Don’t worry even if you don’t have any programming background! I didn’t have any when I started uni, UoM will teach you from the basics😊 But I would say the workload is quite overwhelming for me if I don’t stay on top of things. So just make sure that you always catch up on the materials and don’t let it pile up!
