My mother-in-law taught me to make soups as a side dish for whatever else you're making for dinner. You can stretch the soup and the regular dinner further that way. It's also great if the kids (or the husband or yourself) struggle with drinking enough. It's a little more work having to make a soup as well but I found this really helpful and try to do it often. (Especially because soups are the quickest Turkish dishes I know and my husband is really happy every time I put something from his culture on the table)

It's actually in my Chinese culture, I think I should do this too! There is always soup to start a meal. Usually bone broth type of soup.

Every New Year's my mom makes a sourkraut soup. It's a tradition for good luck in the New Year. We used beef broth and dried mushrooms from Slovakia that my family sends over each Christmas. It's my favorite traditional meal.

Hi Sarah! Regarding the rosemary ... I've purchased 2 inexpensive electric coffee bean grinders, one for coffee and one for herbs. I grind dried rosemary all the time, love using it powdered onto a meal. Hugs, Rachele~

I would be so interested in a video about your go-to recipes for health, specifically during flu season!

I'm impressed that this stretches so far for your family. We are a family of five with my oldest being six, and we easily go through six chicken breasts or 2# ground beef for dinner... Anytime I try to make recipes like these to stretch the proteins there's no leftovers! 😅
@vedakin

So awesome your kids eat well!! I try to cook whole chickens as theyre more cost effective, or thighs. And put red lentils into chillis etc. Also put aside the protein part of the meal to save as leftovers then offer extras of the sides
@francesholmes9486
@francesholmes9486 Жыл бұрын
My thoughts too while watching this! I’m sure there’s a bread or something to go with it as sides, but still my family would never have leftovers cooking this amount. Maybe they snack more or have heartier other meals so they don’t need as much for dinner? Dinner is my family’s biggest meal and we don’t snack much, so it always needs to be a large hearty one.
@Anna-gy9wx

Add green lentils into your ground beef (half lentils half ground beef) or more veggies like mushrooms, carrots, onions, celery to bulk up the ground beef. For chicken, use whole chicken instead, that way you also get the cheaper parts like legs and you have a carcass left to make homemade chicken broth after!

I recommend dippers. We serve sourdough bread to dip in our soups and overtime I find a kid who used to eat 80% sourdough, 20% of that particular soup will eventually eat a good portion of that same soup with sourdough just gradually increasing the amount of soup with exposure. With sourdough as their safety food (or whatever dippers you want to provide) they will eventually be filling up more on the soup. I hope that helps.
