The simple, boring packaging design is to save costs on printing ink. Every cent counts, I suppose.
@MrAranton6 жыл бұрын
It's not about the ink, it's about the printing process. On an industrial scale, each colour used in a print is put onto the paper seperately. The more colours are used, the more often the paper/carton needs to pass through the printer, which - depending on machines used - increases the risk of misalignments that ruin the result. And the more complex the image is the worse a misalignment can screw it up. Say there's a picture of a person on the package; being even a fraction of a millimeter off between the printing stages will lead to a blurry image with distorted colours. In a design that's mostly white with a bit of text and maybe some coloured stripes, that problem doesn't occur, even if there's a misalignment of several millimeters. That drives cost down much further than using less ink.
@himynameishelen6 жыл бұрын

As a person with little income at the moment I want you to know that I am not offended by you going on a week of discount priced food. In fact, I think that the majority of people who get offended are not poor and just think that they need to feel sorry for us peasants because that's how people act in the current year. Like everything hurts their feelings all the time and it constantly needs to be called out. As in "how dare you eat their food and say it tastes bad. Don't you know they can't afford better?" It's all very smug and self righteous. It annoys me because I don't need people with better financials to feel sorry for me. That just makes me feel bad. I know some of the discount food is nasty. However, some of it is actually really good. I've been struggling all my life. Once me and my brother had to share a can of sloppy joe sauce. Yes. Just the sauce. I do eat some of the Walmart brand snacks along with the bulk vegetables, rice and meat that I get at the cheapest prices I can find. The potato chips and the breakfast biscuits (their version of Belvita) are really good. In fact, I prefer the Walmart brand chips over the name brands. The breakfast biscuits are really really nice. You wouldn't even know they were store brand. Sorry if I went off on a tangent. Most people of limited income are pretty strong and resilient because they have to be. We're not that easily offended.

Not to mention that him eating these things and saying "this is actually really nice and the price is very reasonable" will encourage more people to buy the products (eg: I bought value corn flakes after he said how good they were) which in turn may destigmatise the idea of eating value brands and also encourage the stores to generate an even greater variety of products in the range.

The merger with Sainsbury’s will give Walmart overall control of the company and will also incorporate Argos which has been added to the Sainsbury’s brand. Walmart will likely close down Asda and use the Sainsbury’s brand instead, as it offer a better market brand. Under the merger, Walmart will end up with 41% of the company but also 21% is owned by Qatar holdings and 5% by Blackrock. This leaves 33% to the current Sainsbury’s board, making Walmart the major shareholder.

I know it's not meant to belittle anyone, I was on a very low income for years and spent around £25-35 a week depending (that includes non food items such a toilet rolls, soap, deodorant etc). It took time as I would have to batch cook and freeze myself but you could make good meals with at least 5 fruit/veg and were much more filling and nutritious than frozen meals. It can be done without buying loads of processed or fast food crap. Yes, I couldn't always have loads of meat and would have to mix lentils in with minced beef etc - however I'm pretty sure the protein content trumps the 2oz of meat (+2oz water) that is in some of the cheap meats. Proper vegetables are way cheaper than frozen. And a bag of potatoes less than a bag of chips, it just means chopping them up etc. For under £12 on the market I can more veg than I can eat in a week. Not everyone has the time to cook however so I do get it.

The Smart Price line has similar packaging to many generic products in the USA -- white or yellow background, black block text. But it's nice to see they make sure the nutritional content is front and center.

12:32 - When I was very young (80's) the Store/Generic brand of the regional Eagle brand was in yellow, had no pictures and just said what is in the box/bag in plain text. I remember for a while they had all the yellow box item down one aisle. It was freaky looking

UHT milk still needs to be stored in the fridge after opening. You can keep it elsewhere until you open it but after that you're meant to put it in the fridge.

Yes but onions aren't really veg
@Petronio396 жыл бұрын
Wait, what? Is that like a British thing? Onions are 100% vegetables. They're a bulb vegetable like garlic, leeks, and water chestnuts. They put the stuff on salads, in vegetable broth, all sorts of stuff; it's one of the most used vegetables of all time. It's also nutrient dense, and healthy for you. I'm not sure how it gets discounted as a vegetable.

they are in the midst of merging with sainsbury's - it's all systems go in mid-2019. Asda is still involved with walmart, or haven't officially moved away from walmart at least, as all their systems are still currently run by walmart.

It's called SMART price for a reason because you are smart to get more food that is often times the same or near the same quality as more expensive brands for so much cheaper. The basic ingredients for meals such as spaghetti or passata is exactly the same quality as the top brands because the basic ingredients are exactly the same.

I'm an American, I like Walmart, and I thought that this was a very considerate, and polite review! Good stuff, Mike! A lot of people automatically shit all over stuff like this, but you kept an open mind. Personally, I almost live off of walmart frozen food. It's a matter of taste and preference, I suppose! Keep it up, I love your reviews!

Finasteride is a highly effective hair loss treatment - I've been lucky enough to not need it, but a family member (cousin) used it for years and his hair loss never worsened in all those years and he even regained some of the hair he had lost, although never got back what he had originally - the stuff is great. I wonder with all of these hair transplant options and medicinal treatments available how anyone in 2018 manages to go bald.
@BLY996 жыл бұрын
Andrew Winton Of course.............
@andrewwinton46086 жыл бұрын
I understand your scepticism, but I have seen it for myself - a few years back a friend of mine got a hair transplant and it really boosted his self confidence, and he said it was the best thing he ever did. Then again, it is all vanity, and many aren't bothered enough by it to go down that route - and many more go for the bald mans hat or the wig (for the best in wigs check out the Phil Spector court case - the man wore a different wig every day, each higher, curlier and more bizarre than the lost and it did very little for his credibility).
