I think people in comment sections often forget that this is how some of us have to live. My family and I were homeless for 3 years. Most days we had one small meal, other days we had out of date food and some days we had nothing but water. Just please guys, remember how lucky you are🖤
@da909145 жыл бұрын

Hey taz! I was thinking about what you said “a little can go a long way” and that reminded me of homeless people. It's the fact that it can be done that's important here. Of course, busy people with jobs won't need to do this, but unemployed, pensioners, students etc may have little money and lots of time. For them this could be really helpful. It also shows us how costs can be brought down in general. It is an interesting video even without these factors.

If you were to do it for a full week it would be a little easier, since there are lots of things that are $0.50-$1 that last several meals. An entire week's worth of split pea soup lunches could probably be made for $1.50 with the addition of onion/garlic/lemon. A bag of flour is about $2 and a dozen eggs is $1 if you find a sale. Tomato paste is around $0.50. Now you've got pasta with tomato sauce, plus some garlic and maybe onion left over from the soup, enough for a full week. Add in $1 for a container of oatmeal and $1 for 4-5 bananas. Cook the oatmeal with the bananas and whisked eggs and you've got a nice, custardy oatmeal breakfast. As a bonus there's now flour and oats in the pantry for later use. Would it be boring to eat this every day? Yes. Does it fully meet nutritional or calorie needs? Probably not. But will it keep you fed for $1/day? Yeah. And honestly if you're living on this, it's time to look into soup kitchens, food pantries, churches, and government assistance

@geralynting74335 жыл бұрын
Loved that you mentioned the importance of choosing food with more protein even if it means spending a little bit more! For anyone who's curious, The whole reasoning behind making sure you get enough protein in your diet is that it's important for muscle growth and recovery, as well as the fact that it is satiating and will keep you feeling fuller for longer (especially when you're on a tight budget and can't afford to eat very often). If you're eating a lot of simple carbs, chances are you'll get hunger pangs even when your body doesn't need food since what you're eating spikes insulin levels and is followed by a quick drop causing the hunger hormone to increase. Complex carbs like whole grain breads and rice will give you a steady source of energy, keep you satiated and give your body the micronutrients necessary to keep your organs healthy. I'd recommend going to asian stores for rice since they can be a little cheaper plus sometimes you can find small packs of vegetables or sometimes even seafood you can use as a topper or to stir fry.

I really like this video. My advice for someone who needs to actually live on this budget would be to try and combine the whole week's budget and buy in bulk or meal prep for couple of days at the time. Like buy a big bag of oats and make oatmeal for breakfast, or buy beans dry in a bigger bag and cook couple of meal from that and so on. Also big bags of carrots are usually pretty cheap as well. You can do a lot with little money but it usually requires some cooking 😁

Hi! Lovely video! Just a quick tip, for anyone who might be interested, if you want to find out the price of any loose fruit or veg in lidl, all you have to do is multiply the product's weight with the price per kilo. So for example, one of your jacket's weight was 0.144 and the price per kilo was 40p so the formula would be 0.144×0.40=0.0576 so 5p for that potato (you ignore the last 2 digits, you're only interested in the first 2 digits after the point). Hope I explained this right, as english is not my first language and I hope it comes in handy!

forget that pasta sauce Taz, 28p chopped tomatoes, 46p mozzarella from Aldi and 20p for 500 grams of Spaghetti from Tesco. even leaves you with 7p for a potato. you could do baked potato slices with half the mozzarella as a side and the spaghetti and chopped tomatoes with the other half of the mozzarella. and then into the rest of the week, you have the remainder of the Spaghetti to do something else with. when working with this sort of budget you need to look at seasoning you can get for free, Like Mint, Basil etc can grow naturally and a lot of cafes you can find free salt, sugar, pepper and sometimes ketchup, and on a 7-day challenge, you're going to want to make daily investments with ingredients that have transferable properties in other meals.

Baked Beans can be bought in the UK from as little as 6p a Can ( Tesco a few years ago ) . Heinz is generally the most expensive at 90p a Can . It's all about the sauce!!

I started doing this some years and realised the power of Dal and Roti. I was ripped, super fit, super lean, loads of energy. Then I was introduced to ghee. Now I have diabetes and swollen ankles.

Honestly, Taz you have a beautiful heart and I love the fact that you’re showing people money can go a long way if you’re smart about it. I wish I was in the UK 🇬🇧 because your all’s prices are shockingly cheap compared to America. I’m not sure if you could walk into a grocery store and get that much for a fraction of a dollar. Only place I can think of is the Dollar Tree which is equivalent to your all’s poundland. But like I said you have a beautiful heart, and you’re so genuine when it comes to helping and teaching your audience. You are truly an amazing person and creator. I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say you’re adored and loved so much.

I love how you gave advice for people living on a budget and not mock or joke about it. I myself am living on a budget and I have been all my life, coming from a poor family. I had gone through though times were for almost 6 months we only could afford paying for the rent and with just a big bag of rice, some tomato sauce. And pretty much that was the everyday meal. Those months were the worst because basically almost to starving point as there was a month gap me and my mom were living on just water. I am glad its going better and I hope I can manage to finish my education to move and live in a better place.

Newsagents are generally more expensive because they're so convenient that they can mark up prices. Plus they can't buy in bulk as they have limited space so things are probably more expensive for them to buy.

just wanted to say that I'm impressed by how cheap everything in the uk is. lol here a single banana usually costs around €50 cents and a kg is between €1.5 and €2 depending on the season. and I'm talking about lidl's and kaufland's bananas. the minimum wage is less than €290 so just imagine how thrifty you need to be in your daily life. at least lodging is cheaper than in the uk - €150-200 per month for a one bedroom and kitchen flat. when I was younger my mum used to buy groceries only once a week and for €5-10. she somehow made them last us for 6-7 days. 2 people, €10, 7 days. I was never hungry and always brought a homemade lunch at school. I always wore hand-me-downs and second-hand stores' clothes but they were always clean and without holes (or skillfully patched). my mum is my hero cuz she raised me like that for years despite the fact she was struggling financially. be thankful and never forget where you came from.
