Hi Mike. I have a suggestion for a future Week On ! I have been diagnosed with Pancreatitis and Gall Stones and so have been forced to go on a Low Fat diet. Saffron is the stamen of a particular type of crocus. It’s expensive because it’s harvested by hand and you don’t hurt much from a flower.

Saffran is actually JUST the stigma and styles of the flower - so the tiny, thin threads that hold the pollen. That's why it's so bloody expensive, because you need like a field to get 5 grams.

Not just that, it needs to be harvested by hand or it gets ruined. And it's time you can pick it is extremely specific or it's again, ruined. It's next to impossible to automate any process of saffron, it's actually surprising considering how advanced we are.

I LOVE that chicken and prawn paella. Every supermarket I’ve been to (well, tesco, asda) has the same one which to me suggests they just distribute the ‘best’ quality ones for the finest ranges as you have here, and the lesser good ones to the budget ranges (in tesco I think they’re branded as Tesco’s own diet range?)

An average weekly shop comes to about 100 quid now, so 119 quid (minus delivery charge like you said) isn't actually too bad for a supermarket's best range weekly shop in my opinion!

I mean Saffron should be sweet and floral in it's taste so if you begin adding more heavy spices and flavorings, you sorta loose out on the saffron. It did say Spicy chorizo, yes? also you could taste various other things like paprika and such.

I remember having a reduced most expensive paella from Asda once when I got lucky one night and got it for £1.23 when it's original price was £6 and it was pretty good but better with quite a bit of lemon juice to cut the rich and salt.

Wild rice should be al dente, but not crunchy. Wild rice is one of my favorite flavors in the world...that savory herbal flavor is so good, especially when sprinkled into pilafs and the like.

Oh dear. I've had some really dodgy stuff from Sainsbury's. Don't shop there now unless I need something specific that only they stock. Be interested to see if their "taste the difference" range is any better than their "fresh" bread (tastes of crude oil and salt).

Also I'm glad you liked the Stroganoff... I've had their "non" TtD version, and it's one of the worst things I've ever eaten. (Man I feel like a Tesco shill right now.) I don't know how much the TtD version is better. No plans to find out. Nice to discover that even Sainsbury's can't mess up a croissant though. In all fairness, that looked legit good.
