When I was young, my dad told me to take care of my 2nd hand bike by never leaving it outside instead of putting it in the garage..he also taught me to take care of any tools I used. Including the lawn mower. We didn't have new things every year, so we took care of what we had. I will turn 70 this year and my mowers are cleaned up with the leaf blower and rags and put away dry and clean. I have found that lesson of taking care of what I have to be invaluable.

I agree completely. Part of the issue is not having a place indoors but that is really just an excuse because I could tarp it. I'm starting to learn the value of your statement as I grow older. I think as a society we have been living in a "throw away buy new" mindset for to long. Time to learn the lessons of those that went through hard times.

I did just what you proposed concerning the rain barrel. Built an elevated frame stacking two plastic 55-gallon drums that collected rain from gutter. The upper drum had a PVC overflow piped into the lower drum, so there was 110 gallons when both were full. PVC piped from drums through cabin wall inside to a sink...plenty of water pressure. Freezing will probably be an issue, particularly that far north. I'm in SE Tennesser and had problems a few times. Just make sure & put a shutoff valve outside to stop water from coming in the cabin & drain lines when you're away.

Knee jerk reaction and immediately hit my left hand with my right and popped it off the nail and I did it hard and luckily it worked but damn that thing was sore for more than a week ! lol. Second thing : while watching you staple up the molded barrier for the ridge vent I didn’t recall noticing that you’d left enough room at the peak for a ridge vent. Yay if you did ! Never picking but was just a thought I had so figured I’d mention it. Should be at least a 2” open:g at the peak for venting. Take care T

Shower idea. I have a Whale foot pump on my sink on my sailboat so I can wash or rinse dishes with two hands while having running water. You could use it to pump water directly from your outside tank woke you shower. Or if you have a solar system just get a 12V pump. This avoids taking up space inside for a tank

One thing that will help you with the mower is to put a gas shutoff valve in line before the carb. then every year on your last mow just turn the fuel off and let it run out. this will help not leave gas in the carb and hopefully help with this. Same goes for generators or any small engine, it will be a life saver. This new fuel is horrible for the carbs.
