Most of the food is made to be filling. To endure cold winters and harsh seasons in older times. That's why it's almost always very calorie dense. Sometimes I wish we had more spicy traditional recipes haha

Thanks, so awesome. Just returned from Lithuania a week ago, I was born and raised there, now live in Canada. You should go to the seaside, I would recommend Neringa, it's beautiful, pretty unique in a sense that on one side you have a lagoon and the Baltic Sea on the other. Lots of untouched (relatively) and wild nature, very relaxing area.

Ugh. I couldn't help but cry a little and feel sick to my stomach when we went to the KGB museum and got to the execution chamber. It took me a while to get back to normal after that. Quite an experience. Interestingly, there was a scene from the HBO miniseries Chernobyl that was shot there. As soon as I saw it, I recognized it.

Next time you're in Vilnius visit Lukiškės prison. Its a Russian empire prison that was used up until 2018/2019 and now you can visit it with a tour guide (you can ask for an English one). The Building is protected as it's a beautiful historic building in the old town of Vilnius! The place os now called Lukiskes 2.0 and ks also a social space where you can go to concerts and even rent a co-working space! A really really one of a kind experience even if you've visited other prisons before

Found your channel week ago an watches all Lithuania videos. Greetings from Vilnius 🇱🇹 it always interesting to see how country and city looks from different perspective, and thanks for reminder how beautiful is around, we sometimes miss things as it is just too common 😁 there is plenty of things to see both: nature (there is 100 km walking path around Vilnius, but you can choose one or few segments), also museums worth to see, especially “Valstybės pažinimo centras”, TV tower (if it is not closed yet for repair) and few more. If you would need any advice just ask. Enjoy your explorings! :)

Thank you so much! I had no idea that there was a 100km walking track around the city, I will have to look it up for the next time we visit! And thanks for the other recommendations, too! So much to explore :)

That awkward moment when being Vilnius dweller I learn about best spots from foreigners lol. Didn't know about Senoji Troba! I like traditional food, but it's difficult to cook it from scratch, so I defo hunting for restaurants where I can enjoy it hassle free 😂🙈

Making me homesick and realizing all the good beer/eats I am missing. I can’t wait to return this Fall to my 2nd home in Vilnius and goodbye to Australia where the lockdown is killing me. Will we ever get back to normal?

Great video! Senoji trobelė isn’t the best place to try lithuanian food. The food is too expensive and not the tastiest one. But there is the place near Senoji trobelė just couple houses away on the same street called Žemaičių ąsotis. Amount of food you get for the price is quite dangerous for your health but it’s worth the risk.

There is a way better view than the bell tower. I highly recomend visiting the Vilnius TV tower which is 326 meters / 1069 feet tall and has a restaurant at the rop with seats that slowly revolve in a circle around the top of the tower and you can see the whole city from above

Greetings - stumbled across your great Lithuanian content. And after few videos had to comment on some recommendations. Recommended* On next visit if weather is still friendly stop by Lukiškes Prison in vilnius they have turned old prison (still active 10years ago) into excursion and well pub square. Bit different kind of view from usual traditional places you tend to see around. As well near place where you live you have town called Anykščiai that's quite cool and not as far as capital. Enjoy autumn freshness of Lithuania! 👌 Cheers

In 1990's if someone would heard that you are from Lithuania, the response had been - so you are Russian. I have a feeling this is why occupation museum was recommended to you as #1.

Back in 2018 my UK and Irish friends visited Vilnius (and Lithuania in particular) for the very first time. When we were deciding what to see in a city their first choice immediately was a KGB museum, which I never even heard of before living in this country (I am not from Vilnius though). We went there, it was terrible and heavy but "terrible" not to the point of entertaning, it was just stupid museum that mispresents our country so much. After spending frew days with those friends in Vilnius, I soon noticed that all points of interest about Lithuania for them nearly always included communism, KGB, Chernobyl, Russia, Stalin - it felt like there is nothing more interesting about Lithuania than stupid communism. It was so disappointing and upsetting to see foreigners being stuck in a past about our country. They literally did not want to see anything nice except history of gulags or Russia-related content. It took lots of efforts for me to crack the ice in their heads that Lithuania is way more than just ex-Soviet state.

No, you wouldn't. Potatoes don't contain any gluten. If you're dairy free because of lactose intolerance then you can eat sour cream, cottage cheese, kefir and sour milk because they contain very little lactose.

@@laura-bronner In Lithuania we had many sorts of beers - for chating, for dancing, for getting drunk and so on. So Šnekutis comes from šnekėti - to chat. when u drink it lets say on traditional vedding party - it takes your legs of, and all u can do - chat with your neighbours

What is your impression of how many people are wearing masks indoors or outdoors? Can you enter restaurants or shops unmasked? I say this because I live in a country (Portugal) where mask wearing has been strictly applied and accepted since day one. Our vaccination rate is also much higher than Lithuania's--72% full vaccination versus 53.3%, which is similar to some of the most anti-vaccination states in good ole USA. I noticed that you were not wearing a mask when you were on the top of the church but I couldn't see if people were wearing them inside the elevator, where the real danger exists.
