Great vid and shots! One of my biggest fears is sensor damage from lasers. How do you make the call to shoot an event with them? Any tips?

Thank you so much! It can help to talk to the production team beforehand. Thankfully, I work at WHP a lot and know the best practices of the team - they target the lasers much higher than would ever hit someone’s eye, or a camera sensor, so I feel safe in using my camera. If it was a venue I didn’t know, I’d ask the production team beforehand about laser usage and where they’ll be targeting them and, if that’s not possible, I’d try my best to shoot from crowd eye level rather than extend my camera too high, as it’s really unlikely that they’re going to fire lasers into areas that could damage people’s eyes.

@ makes sense, checking in with the production team will help. Thanks again!

I had heard of some guys who had bought the Leica Q2s a few years ago blaming Leica for the laser damage. Interesting topic of discussion.

@ that’s interesting! What was their argument?

@@SophiaCarey Can't recall TBH. I think they were claiming the sensors were faulty. It was a thread that I was not interested in so didn't follow it up. I was more interested in Leica M8 and M9 shutter failure rates. One of the reasons that Leica removed the provision of recording the shutter actuations in the firmware after the M8. With my M typ 240, there is no way of telling and so with every other digital Leica after the M8. I heard that they aalso removed the error logging from the firmware with M11 or oit could be from M10 and M11, due to a lot of the issues they had with the USA sales. This new Leica which is owned by aninvestment group and something else is a million miles away from company the Ernst Leitz and sons built. The same can be said of Hasselblad who is now owned by the Chinese company DJI who make drones and stablisers. This is the world we live in.

Wicked video very insightful, such savage shots too !! I’m a photography graduate who’s based in Manchester and have found it difficult to get a foot in the door in the live music photography industry since graduating is there any tips you could give on how to secure work like this as shooting these events would literally be my dream haha. If you ever need an extra photographer too give me a shout as I love your work and it’s right up my alley

@@lbarker2001 thank you so much!! I really appreciate the kind words. I think a lot of work like this tends to be secured through word of mouth so keeping on shooting at your local venues, for local press outlets and for local artists is definitely the best way to get your work out in front of other venues. I have a full Skillshare class on live music photography and also on developing your portfolio in the description if you fancy it!
