Welcome to an Arkansas weekend for the outdoorsy. We are back in Arkansas traveling deep into the mountains of the Ouachita National Forest for a little relaxation and adventure. After setting up camp for our first night, Kellie cooks a Mexican Casserole.
The next morning for breakfast we cooks Blue Berry Biscuits with bacon and eggs. After breakfast Kellie stays back at camp to relax while I go hiking up the creek that was were camping at to explore the region and look for waterfalls. After that, I return to camp to enjoy the rest of the day relaxing with Kellie.
That evening Kellie shows how to cook Butternut Squash Ravioli with Roasted Walnuts. Jonathan arrives at camp later that evening.
The next morning Kellie cooks French Toast. After breakfast, we drive down to Glenwood, Arkansas to kayak the Caddo River. We put in at the Glenwood Caddo River Access (34°19'13.5"N 93°32'31.1"W) and take out at the Amity Caddo River Access (34°17'21.8"N 93°27'34.5"W)

You probably won’t know this but the music that was playing in the back while you were cooking the tortillas it’s actually Puerto Rican folkloric music. You have no idea how emotional I got when I started listening to it. Thanks a lot for throwing that in there (on purpose or not). Blessings!!!

I swear! Cooking eggs in bacon grease is THE BEST!!😋 I would add home made tortillas to that and maybe a side of cooked potato's with diced onions and green chili's?! AND, Kelly you cooked up the bacon just the way I like 'em - well done and crunchy!! YUMMO! That trip on the Caddo looked like SO MUCH FUN! Thanks for sharing!

I added a high temp felt welding blanket to the top of my Coleman camp oven to hold in the heat and better regulate the temp. I saw some KZbin hacks where people cut them and sewed them. I just got a small 18 x 24 in and fold it at the back and secure it with large metal safety pins. It's easier to pack away when I'm not using it. I love my Coleman oven. Saw it watching your KZbin vlogs and had to have one.

The Caddo River at Big Fork is about 1000 feet above sea level and down at Lake De Gray it about 400 feet above sea level. At Caddo Gap itself on Highway 27 the elevation is just at 600 feet. To get over 2500 feet you will need to go North about 50 miles to Mount magazine or go west 50 miles to Mount Queen Wilhelmina State park right on the Oklahoma Arkansas line. I found a white mountain is about 1600 feet the only Blue mountain 50 miles north of you is just north of Blue mountain lake and just south of Mount Magazine but it’s highest point is less than a 1000 feet. Don’t trust your cell phone and Google earth/ maps. Get a chance look at the topographical map for Glenwood C5 or Caddo Gap D5.
@CodyandKellie
@CodyandKellie 3 жыл бұрын
Howdy! I agree. That’s why I don’t trust phones. I use a ole Arkansas Atlas book. If you own one, turn to page 73 and look just south of Y City Arkansas. We had left there and drove an hour south to the Caddo. North of Yocana Arkansas.
@bootmender
@bootmender 3 жыл бұрын
@@CodyandKellie LOL, don’t get me wrong I love your videos but that’s even worse? Most Atlas’s were never to scale, Just South west of Y city about 10 miles is Queen Wilhelmina State Park the second highest place in Arkansas. Back in the 1990’s I was a member of a group of that did Geocaching. Every Saturday we would get on our motorcycles with our GPS’s and look for hidden cashes. I also uses to fly fish the Caddo and upper Ouachita river.
@CodyandKellie
@CodyandKellie 3 жыл бұрын
Did not know that they would be wrong too. But not afraid to learn new things and when we are wrong. I just check the US Forest Website as well and they show the same elevation. I hope they might be right. Don’t now what to trust anymore 😂 I also just wanted to make sure so I found a place only that shows the peaks in Polk County Arkansas and Blue Mountain shows the same elevation of 2,623” take a look and let me know what you think. 🤔 listsofjohn.com/searchres?c=1499

I have a question that you could cover for me (and others probably). You mentioned once about having a dead car battery in a video, and I pointed out that your car doors being open with a dome light on all day can kill a car battery. You then confirmed that you do in fact leave all your car doors open during the day because you are in and out of the truck often. My question is, what are you getting in and out of the vehicle all day so often that requires leaving the doors open all day? When I am camping, I might open a door here and there, but usually not often even over a course of a few days. I just can't dial in what's going on in your camp? Thanks!
@CodyandKellie
@CodyandKellie 3 жыл бұрын
We have the dome light turned off in the truck so when we open the doors the light does not come on. We leave food and other things that do not fit in the tent in the truck. Power bank, refrigerator, jackets, camera gear, shoes, water, yoga mat, etc.

No it does not stick if the pan has been seasoned. I usually just wipe it out with a paper towel to clean

@@CodyandKellie cool. I’ve been to it once before. I love riding my gravel bike or touring bike in the Quachita and Ozark national forests. The Talihena scenic byway is one of the hardest rides ever done. I bike packed across the Quachita National forest back in 2018. In 2019 we bike packed across the Ozark National forest. We always do a trip in the fall when the leaves are changing colors.
