I laughed when you told us about your weakness for prunes. I also love prunes, but my addiction is dates. My mama would be making a cake with dates, and literally had to take them away from me because she wouldn't have enough for the cake. She finally started making the cakes when I was at school. She always saved any leftover dates for me to have as a snack when I got home. I have to be very careful and limit myself. The memories of our mama's are precious 💖 💗

Oh my I laughed and laughed! They used to put prunes in the lunch trays back when I was in school. None of the kids liked them but I LOVED THEM! I would end up with mine and quite a few from others on my tray. I ate them all and paid the price like you did lol. I haven’t had them in years so will have to get some from the store. I loved all the stories about your mom! Mine is 84 and having trouble with dementia too, very difficult to watch. My sister says it well, funny and sad all in the same moment. Treasured memories! Leslie love your hair. I use to make a cake like that when I was working in the School Cafeteria .With the prunes and buttermilk glaze and it was delicious. I had one teacher who would always buy 4 to 6 servings every time I made it.The glaze soaks down in the cake.The one I made was delicious but you can’t eat to much of it so be careful eating it.God bless you all.

When my husband and I were dating my Mama had made a prune cake. He would not even try it. Years later I made one and told him it was a kind of spice cake, he liked it and had no “reaction” to it. I don’t make them often but the family always enjoys it.

Oh my goodness Leslie you are not alone girl! LOL. I remember back in High School they had stewed prunes as the dessert one day. Everyone at the lunch table thought they were gross - so I ended up eating everyone’s stewed prunes. Needless to say - I missed school the next day! I remember being doubled over getting off the school bus that day. 45 years ago and it’s still fresh on my mind still! 🤣😂

Back in the '70's I worked for a FEDERAL SAVINGS AND LOAN. I had a craving for prunes. At lunchtime I went to the store and bought some. I bought a box of them. They were so good! The other young woman in the office asked me what I was eating. I told her, she said, I love prunes. She and i ate prunes for two days. Needless to say, our boss teased us over it. I look back and think about it and smile. After two days, we were done. Craving was over. 😊

Leslie, when I was a young mother ( of 19 years old). My husband and I went on a little road trip. My firstborn was about 3 months old and I fed him baby food prunes. Big mistake, big, big mistake. Lol I had know idea they were a laxative. This was in the early 70’s and you used cloth diapers. So needless to say we had to cut our trip short. Such fond memories. ❤ I just love your channel!! My mama made these for years. It was one of my daddy's favorites. I started making them later in years as well. I make them every year for Thanksgiving or Christmas. I always poked holes in the cake before pouring the icing over so it would get down into the cake. It's also good with a glass of buttermilk. And no, it doesn't have the same effect as just eating the prunes straight out of the box 😅.

My mother made a raisin cake that was delicious and at times she substitute prunes. It only had cinnamon and a tiny bit of nutmeg. The glaze was just powdered sugar and hot water.

Lol I have a prune story, now a long-standing joke with one of my son-in-laws, at my expense. His fam had us over for dinner, before kids were married, and the main course was prune chicken. It was delicious....but the prunes hit me hard and fast. The worst part, the only downstairs powder room was adjacent to the dining room in which we were eating. 😮 Literally, just one wall separated me and my prune-lined stomach. Lol To add insult to injury, a plunger was required ....and the rest is history. 😂
