I have just discovered this wholesome sanctuary that is your space, Catherine. Oh my goodness, you're so inspiring, funny and bloody awesome! I love that there's always a cat in every video (I've watched about 10 so far), lots of vintage finds, plants and good humour! Originally from Poland, I must admit I have a soft spot for Irish people (and potatoes ha ha). Keep doing what you're doing, you're a true gem! I was very sorry to hear about your loss. I also lost my Mum not long ago, prematurely, suddenly... Dad's been gone nearly 7 years. I'm sending lots of gentle hugs! ♡

Thank you Catherine for sharing a year in your garden. You have kept yourself busy, dear heart. As I have aged, I have learned that nothing is truly perfect no matter how much I try. The important thing is to remember to enjoy yourself while gardening, cleaning, or whatever it might be. Here’s hoping everyone has a 2025 year of health, joy, peace, and love. All my best, Catherine.😊

Finally got over a cold and I saved this video for a treat when my head was more clear. ❤ My big garden struggle last year was my front yard. Hi Catherine! I know the winter can usual be quite brutal here in Canada (I'm in Quebec) but it's been some what mild. There was still snow on the ground for Christmas and it's supposed to be 8 C tomorrow which is weird. Last year was similar so I think that's why my garlic had pests for the 1st time in years! I changed the spot so we'll see in Spring if that helped. The squirrels and cucumber beetles ate most of that crop lol my kale did great but the tomatoes and peppers weren't happy. The happiest plants were the dahlias, roses and peonies! I also managed to get some grapes before the birds ate them 😃 and the used the vines to make wreaths in the fall! Lovely to see spring bulbs and sun 😎 need to start planning my garden for 2025! I got myself a heat mat last year that I've yet to try out and new grown pots. Can't wait 😄 love these overview of the year videos. As I said last time, very inspirational! 😊
@DaintyDiaries3 күн бұрын
It's so great to hear from you, and thank you for the kind words! It sounds like you've had quite the gardening adventure in Quebec this past year, despite the pests and challenges. The grapes and wreath-making sound like a wonderful success, though! I can imagine how rewarding it must have been to get those before the birds got them. It’s interesting that your garlic had pests-hopefully, the change in location helps! It can be tricky with the changing weather patterns. It’s exciting that you’re planning ahead for 2025, especially with your new heat mat and pots. I’m sure that’ll make a big difference for your seed starting! Looking forward to seeing what you grow this year. I'm sure it’ll be beautiful, just like your dahlias and roses! Let me know if you need any tips as you plan for the season ahead. 😊

I´m also single , 10 years older as you and I did became such a homebudy - not to say a couch potato. One of my goals for 2025 is to have more "action". One special little event per month. So I bought a ticket for the theater for this month. All by myslelf. I got this. Thank you so much for all the content you create for us to enjoy! Lovely to see your video and beautiful garden on a gray, stormy day here in the US/North Carolina. It always motivates me to watch your garden clean ups. Trying so hard to make comments and edit them, as I watch in bits and pieces :) Thanks for reminding us of all our favourite videos. I started watching your channel when I was sick with long covid and needed something to cheer me up. It was great to see all your content. I had to have someone else do my spring garden work, but by fall I was catching up with things and managed to rake a TON of leaves and put my gardens to bed for the winter. Inspired by you, we also built a raised bed for our daughter's new back yard :) We are our own worst enemy; the more we love to garden, the more work we make for ourselves! We are also hard on ourselves. My biggest challenge, however, is the anticipation, but the overwhelm is always worse than the actual task. xo

It’s true, gardening can be overwhelming at times, but it’s always worth it in the end. Wishing you a wonderful spring ahead! 🌱🌸

Hello from Western Washington State USA 🇺🇸. I found your channel back in the beginning of the Plandemic, you were building an outdoor pub in your backyard, lol. My garden was a struggle for me because I have a bad back ... weeds took over , and I didn't keep up with anything like I wanted to. I'll be 63 in April 🎉, I might need to downsize a bit in 2025. Happy New Year 🎉

Hello from across the pond! It’s great to hear you've been with the channel since the outdoor pub project days - that feels like so long ago! I'm sorry to hear about the back troubles; gardening can be tough on the body sometimes. Downsizing can be a great option, especially if it makes things more manageable and enjoyable. Wishing you a wonderful 2025, full of gardening joys, no matter the size! Happy early birthday for April! 🎉🌸

I completely understand - it’s easy to be hard on yourself, but looking back through photos can really show just how much progress you've made! A diary might help capture the little wins along the way. Keep going, you’re doing amazing and gardening is your journey to enjoy, not everyone elses! 😊📸

Your garden looks so lovely and full in summer! I have been trying for years to grow Astrantia from seed and never managed it. This year l gave up and bought some in pots! 🤞🏻they come back this year. Also l sowed some gladiolus byzantinus and thought they hadn’t germinated but a quick look at the forgot seed tray yesterday showed a little forest of seedlings! @DaintyDiaries3 күн бұрын
How exciting to have a blank canvas garden to work with! There’s so much potential to create something beautiful. It must be fun to plan out what you want to do. Hopefully, this year will be a bit kinder with the weather, and you'll get a chance to work on your garden without too much rain. Do you have any ideas yet for what you'd like to plant or any features you'd like to add, like a raised bed or a seating area?
@julie_uk_3 күн бұрын
A lovely long video to body double with while I cleaned my kitchen & put some washing out. For my garden next year, I'm going to try focus on established plants/plugs/bulbs (flowers) and only plant veg/salad from what I have (as in, seeds in peppers and water propagation with lettuce bases). The past few years I've had success growing veg from seed to sapling stage - then, nothing. Maybe I've not used deep enough pots or kept up with separating seedlings, but zero veg crop. I'm going to go for colour if I can with flowers 🌹💐
@DaintyDiaries3 күн бұрын
It sounds like you’ve put a lot of thought into refining your garden plans! Focusing on established plants and bulbs for colour is a great idea to create a more manageable and vibrant space. For your veggies, starting with things like lettuce bases or seeds from peppers is a brilliant cost-effective strategy. If space is a challenge, consider deeper pots or raised beds to help with root development. Your approach sounds balanced, and your garden will surely be thriving and beautiful next year! 🌿🌸
@julie_uk_3 күн бұрын
@@DaintyDiaries thank you. I have 2 raised beds (waist height) & I've decided to use one for veg/salad (whatever grows) & the other ice filled with old plants & seeds (poppies/wildflowers) from this year, to see what surprises pop up next year. I could do with some sort of cover for the veg bed, like a poly tunnel on hinges, but I've not got round to constructing that yet. I've seen videos where they use hula hoops/piping to create a frame. Just for a bit of heat/protection.

My biggest challenge is living in a house that we are flipping as we live in it. It's a game of what I call plate spinning. I can work on something in the house, but then I need to go get something in the yard done, then back to the inside. I'm an interior designer, which makes the updating everything fun, but I'm not a rich interior designer, which make all processes incredibly slow. It will all get there someday, and that's part of the fun is seeing the changes over time. I'm hoping to get our yard (at least the front yard) leveled so I can put in some raised beds and tons of blue hydrangeas.
@DaintyDiaries2 күн бұрын
That sounds like a huge but rewarding challenge-living in a house flip while managing both interiors and landscaping! It’s inspiring that you approach it creatively despite budget constraints. Plate spinning is the perfect analogy for juggling it all. Your front yard plans sound dreamy-blue hydrangeas in raised beds will be stunning and timeless! I'd love to hear updates on your progress, especially once those hydrangeas start blooming! Keep spinning those plates-you’ve got this! 😊

It must be so nice to see the snow melting and feel the warmth starting to return! 🌞 It sounds like you're ready to dive back into the garden. Even just a little clean-up is a great way to get back into the swing of things. May is still a little while away, but at least the warmer weather gives you a chance to plan and dream about what you'll be planting! What are you most excited to try in the garden this year? 🌷🌱

@DaintyDiaries21 сағат бұрын
Ugh, grubs in your tomatoes-how frustrating! They can be such a nuisance, especially when you’ve put so much effort into your garden. Southern Australia’s high summer must be heating up, so it’s great you’re already planning ahead to tackle them. Nasturtiums or marigolds might help deter pests, a bit of companion planting might help x

I had this problem when I first started my wild flower bit Catherine, I thought maybe the soil or compost was too rich and you have to treat them a bit mean to get more flowers less foliage. So I added some sand and mixed it in, also to help the drainage and it's help 😊 just a thought. I didn't do it tulips in Nov I missed the window 🙄, so I'm hoping the ones that grew the year before will return 🤷♀️ But you are right it was a bit of a funny year. X
@DaintyDiaries3 күн бұрын
Thank you for sharing your experience-it’s a brilliant idea to add sand to the soil to improve drainage and encourage flowers over foliage. I’ll definitely keep that in mind. It really was a strange gardening year, but here’s hoping 2025 brings more blooms and success. Thanks again for the tip! 🌷🌼
