To answer Joe's question of why trucks have not gone to NG you need to deal with the entire process. Fueling, range, size and many other factors that affect a trucker and costs. A new engine at 60% with drag reduction technology, brake recovery, easy thermal control for sleeping, water harvest, low weight...on and on, would be very compelling over an old Diesel at 30-35% (when fully loaded and zero when idling). This engine could allow a cost savings of 4-6 times (400-600 percent) over Diesel for the typical independent trucker. How? 2-3 in energy cost. NG is $1/gal and Diesel is 2.5-3/gal. 2-3 60% vs 30% is 2 times due to efficiency. Total 4-6 times. But wait, there is even more potential... 2 times in drag reduction via active drag technology. Do the math. 2x 2 x 2.5= 10; 2x 3 x 2.5= 15.... 10-15 times better cost potential. You got it, there is a potential with a NEW truck of 10-15 times better costs. You cannot get this with electrics because they don't have air flow in the process. Read that 100 times. This is key. Active drag reduction makes it twice as good in the air and on the ground as electrics that depends on aero. Let's say a nice 10 times improvement in costs for discussions sake. There just is no valid system for trucks to use NG now that makes sense without a massive external investment. This new engine would allow each truck to pump the NG so anyplace that has a supply could be a "station" without all the cost of NG stations (see NorthStar fueling station for example). In fact, the tank systems now used by NorthStar and others are NOT designed correctly to allow real use of NG. Want to know more? Have you top engineers call me and I will discuss it. The very fueling system is FLAWED. How? Simple, You cannot get a 100% fill, just like batteries cannot get 100% fill without an issue. No quick fills. No full fills without harm to system. Time is money and a trucker does not want to be range limited. He wants to run and make money, not save the world. Allow him to make MORE money and your Pickens plan will come to being....otherwise...tough sell.

When every car or truck can run on NG, Gasoline, Diesel, Ethanol, Propane or Alcohol, then the cost of a BTU is the issue, not the form of the energy. If Electricity is cost effective, then use that for the BTU. Good luck... When the cost of the battery use and the electricity drops to $1/gallon equivalent, then use battery. It is projected by Elon Musk that costs would be around 3 cent/kw-hr to use battery in 2040 or so, whereas now it is 4 times that or 12 cents/kw-hr. That is $4 /gal e down to $1/gal e for the battery use. You still have to pay for the electricity. But that still is MORE than NG! The electricity could be FREE (did I say free?) and it would cost MORE to drive that truck with a battery than to use NG in my engine with a battery cost of 3 cents/kw-hr...by twice as much! How? Active drag reduction! Electrics will be twice as much drag as air based engines.... We could be using NG for over 100 years or more if not 200 years. Why? Because NATURE runs on farts...cows...and all bio decay deals in the currency of Methane. Wake up people. Why would a trucker run electricity when they could run bio methane and be completely "carbon neutral" and much lower drag and costs? Because government forced him to is the only answer. Cartels that run electric grids forced him to....now you know the rest of the story....
