A WILD MENS HUNT with Aboriginal men of Minjerribah | Nth Stradbroke, AUSTRALIA

I couldn't believe what I was seeing so close to one of Australia's capital cities, Brisbane. An abundance of Turtles and Dugong within minutes of setting out to find them, but the thing that really amazed me most was the richness of Aboriginal culture still on Minjerribah, North Stradbroke Island. While I was was out on a mens hunt with new friends I was seeing jet skis zip past and luxury vessels moored whilst the owners drank champagne on the sand cays. such a contrast to the ancient cultural practices I was witnessing. These three tribes having inhabited this island for at least 25000 years are part of the OLDEST LIVING CULTURE ON EARTH.
I hope this episode answers some of your questions regarding this controversial hunting practice and showcases the beauty of this ancient island.
Thankyou for having me on the island guys. If anyone wants to meet Mark and Nicky and have an adventure check out @straddie_adventures on Instagram

I've been loving this Adventure on my tv. It reminds me when I was young fella, I worked on Bromley Station in from Morton Telegraph Station for 18 months. Temple Bay was the coastline (plenty of glass balls and big shells) not as much rubbish back in the 70's. Was between the Pascoe river North to the Batavia/Wenlock. Then I got work on Strathmore Station in the Gulf for 18 months. I loved it. Hard, long days but beautiful and Wild. Plenty of fish n scrub turkey an beef of course. Mappoon north of Weipa was great. I was almost 16 when I went up and now at almost 64, it is close to the top of my "Bucket List". Since I found your show I've been trying to watch every episode but they are random. So watched some more than twice. Super Jealous Man.

The Earl of Stradbroke was Baron Rouse of Dennington near Stradbroke 1796 then in 1796 he was made Viscount of Dunwich which is on the Suffolk coast. Before in 1821 he was John Rouse The Earl of Stradbroke.. Its in a very pretty part of Suffolk. Stayed in hostel accommodation for a school camp back in 1986-1987 between amity & point lookout . Went to brown Lake ( tea tree Lake) but were thought back then about aboriginal inhabitants & massacres, as well as mining ( when it was still going ) and the rights of the original land owners & recognition !!! Still did the mangrove walks with wildlife guides who back then still recognised the original owners ,tribes , land names & more ??? Still remember that camp to this very day !!!!

When was the croc sighting? I noticed in the last few years there have been Barramundi being seen and caught along the coast down to the Gold Coast. When I was a kid there were no barramundi caught down here. The closest south they were caught back then (that I know of) was Tin Can Bay. I was wondering when the first crocs would turn up.

Just listening to mark talk about the management from parks and wildlife. being a custodian of his land in regards to the croc it should be that he being on country, should act as the first representative and his position should be one that is the most important. If he sights a croc or anything else for that matter it should be acting apon no questions asked!! He is part of the rightful owners so obviously he has the authority and right to protect his land. Let alone will always have the best interests of conservation and sustainability. Parks and wildlife 🙄🙄 pull ya heads in. Misssing a great opportunity for mark to help and be a great asset.

Very happy the tribe decided that they had food for the day and let the Turtle go. I really appreciate their mature decision. It is legal to take dugong and turtles for subsistence use but its not like you MUST! It is sad that this useful source of food is no longer or barely sustainable.

The right to kill protected species of animals and call it a handed down custom is totally wrong and unjustifiable in today's world. If these ancestors of native people lived as their ancestors did then I along with a vast number of Australians could accept the right given to them to hunt what others are prohibited from hunting. It should be remembered that in times past these people hunted in dug out type sea going vessels and used spears and other primitive weapons to take a meagre ration from the sea in order to survive. Today they search out these animals in fast motorised boats and have no real need of the food and the animals they slaughter under pseudo name of tradition and customs. They live as any other Australian in homes and have the wherewith all to purchase their food just as every other white Australian does while enjoying an easy life style compared to what their ancestors did. This is unjustifiable slaughter of native protected animals and cannot be justified by any means.
