Hangman vs Swerve death match was a massacre. Blood all over the ring and pouring out of both of their heads. Hangman turning into a vampire drinking Swerve’s blood was insane, Swerve stapling himself enjoying it. Probably one of the best death matches in AEW history also put Swerve in the world title scene

I agree that the main event story was completely unnecessary and convoluted as well. They could’ve easily had MJF and Jay have a regular match with MJF winning due to Samoa Joe taking out Bullet Club Gold (thus setting up a feud between Joe and Jay White) and Adam Cole giving MJF the diamond ring to use on Jay for the win. Still loved the ppv overall though

"Swerve pulled a PAGE out of Hangman's book" I see what you did there. In all seriousness, though, this match was completely and utterly insane. Just two ruthless bastarts trying to disembowel one another. Swerve cackling like a cartoon villain after winning was the cherry on top.

The PPV was really good. My biggest issue with the PPV was the MJF injury storyline. You didn't need to have Cole pretend to fight for his friend. All you needed to do was stall the main event. You could have done a backstage interview where Adam is talking to MJF and don't worry just get back to the arena when you can. When it's time for the main event, jay white comes out first, then Adam Cole comes down taking his time, maybe even slips. Cole enters the ring and does a "Who's ready for story time with Adam Cole" he retells the story of his friendship with MJF, heck you could even mention Adam Cole and jay white friendship. After 5-10 minutes. Jay says " That's enough Adam, stop stalling. The ref says if MJF isn't here in one minute, MJF forfeits the title. Then we have the ambulance coming down the ramp.... MJF enters the ring with mere seconds before the time expires.

Usually not a fan of gratuitous blood and violence that AEW (lookin at you, Mox) or more hardcore promotions tend to do, but this feud called for it. I think the MJF injury thing was unnecessary. They already had a good enough story going in. Jay White has Bullet Club, MJF has nobody. They could have at least had Joe come out and even the odds, not because he likes MJF, but because he’s protecting his title shot. It would make sense. If MJF loses the title he can’t honor Joe’s shot and Jay White more than likely wouldn’t.

Hangman and Swerve were match of the night, glad Julia won (very proud of her growth), Orange beating Moxley was good, and the ladder match was way better than I expected. The fact no devil showed up... isn't that kind of telling? I would say that answers the question more than it leaves you with new ones. Why wasn't the devil there? 'cus he was at ringside and on throughout the PPV and had to keep appearances up. Adam Cole. With the Kingdom. It's the obvious and easy answer, and it being predictable is not a bad thing.

AEW seems to be going into a death spiral of booking things in the worst possible way. Want to have Samoa Joe drop the ROH TV title? Have him bury Keith Lee and declare the title meaningless before saying he doesn't want it anymore. Think having two of the best wrestlers in North America isn't a good enough main event? Throw in an annoying leg injury angle that only makes the match worse.
@ItsPascaltheOtter

I would have honestly been fine with the booking of the main event if they did some kind follow up with the Devil story. I feel like if they did that then all the shenanigans they did with the booking wouldn't feel like a waste.
@ROMANTIKILLER2
@ROMANTIKILLER2 10 ай бұрын
I believe that the whole overbooking that went on is a big hint that the Devil is Cole and his injury may be either completely or partially a work. In theory, had MJF not (predictably) returned right before the bell rang, Cole had managed to get himself a world title shot against an overconfident White that was mockingly laying on the mat for him. Maybe I'll be ultimately proven wrong, but it sounds like one of the few reasons to justify all the shenanigans.

When Hangman triumphantly reconnected with The Elite a few months back that really showed some promise for the direction of the group… but I agree, he’s now off doing his own thing entirely with Swerve and Kenny and the Bucks are just kinda treading water. Very much not the grandiose Elite Revival that it could’ve been. However, the group will always kinda be there for them all to rekindle whenever things get slow and the opportunity presents itself, which can be a great wild card to draw when they need it. Right now though, it’s just not The Elite’s moment

A burial would mean that Jay would not have been able to do anything meaningful in the ring. It would also mean that we'll never see him succeed again. Yes, the match was overbooked. Yes, we really should have gotten a hint on the Devil thing. But, I'm calling it now: Jay White will be cheered by all of you within a year from last Saturday.
@stalfos268
@stalfos268 10 ай бұрын
@joquanrowsey7370 Yeah, maybe it's not a "total burial" but some AEW fanboys are taking it to a defensive extreme by ignoring all the other logical gaps around it and how these ideas can make most of a roster look weak. And "just turn your brain off" doesn't work for me when that excuse for bad storytelling is why I don't watch WWE. I want an alternative, if I wanted more of the same I would watch WWE. And it seems like on ratings and live attendance, others are feeling the same. (for reference I enjoyed most of the show minus the end of the women's championship match and this overbooked mess).

It's a fair review my man. You know, i don't think people would've been so against the main-event angle if it wasn't very similar to stuff WWE did in the Aditude Era. AEW fans aren't stupid. It's a blessing and a curse, because it means they expect the wrestling buffet to be top-notch - Espacially on the main event. So yeah, it was overbooked, and it's a dish another audiance might have swallowed gladly, but not us. It's a very difficult point to maintain, because i know TK always tries to make everyone happy and it seems he tried to cater to the more "sports-entertainment" folks who just want Telenovelas with head-locks - but no. That's not AEW, as much as the E-drones wants it to be. I think the PPV was very fun regardless, so i don't blame TK for going a step too far. I'm sure he'll learn from it. He always is.

While the main event was definitely over booked, Jay White really didn't look weak. In fact he looked way too strong going into the match, making him losing obvious. Thought the match was thoroughly entertaining... but Hangman and Swerve was match of the night no question.

I was fine with all the switches leading up to the main event, but how the match went itself was dumb. They have booked Jay to seem like an unstoppable force, but yet he struggled to beat a severely injured MJF. It made him look WEAK! I was thinking that the devil would be revealed and he would be the one to help MJF or even Adam Cole assisting him in the victory. But a hospitalized MJF beat the top guy who also had help from the Gunns. Even hitting Jay with the ring didn't seem like a fitting end for this match. I actually thought he would kick out because his has done so before.

While I can see the illogicality in Adam Cole being allowed to fight to defend the AEW World Championship on MJF's behalf when he's already on crutches himself once you pointed it out, it didn't occur to me at the time, I think because they never actually said MJF "wasn't _medically cleared,"_ they just said that he wasn't going to be able to make it to the match. Like they were expecting him to still be being treated at the local medical facili-sorry, _hospital_ when the match was due to start so he wouldn't be able to make it. That's why he had to steal the ambulance to make it back to the arena in time- he wasn't being examined backstage by Doc Samson, he'd been actually taken away from the venue, which would preclude him from appearing in the main event by default. So I can excuse that little plot hole.

I also actually don't give a s*** that they made j white last week because I've never cared about him as a villain. Which is not to say I didn't like him. I wanted to see him get his s*** wrecked. He did, so he did an effective job. But he was always kind of filler. And a real good way to build up the world is closing in on max. You have a villain who has a whole posse behind him. At the same time, you're building up all of these other threats like Joe wardlo, the devil. Kenny omega It is an effective way of Of showing how that story is working and I also get the ideas that they were trying to throw in this match and I don't think any of them are necessarily bad ideas. But I think putting them all together wasn't necessarily the but I fully disagree with you. About max becoming face making his run stale. I don't think that at all. One bad match is not enough to turn on the thing, and this probably wasn't even a bad match. It's just a little messy

I thought it was for sure overbooked and I didn’t see the point in that at all. Just stack the odds and let him fight and come out with an incredible entrance but hurt. I don’t believe it at all made jay white look weak though. Jay white has been taking short cuts the entire time which has made him look weak in itself and avoiding max 1 on 1 so that does play into the story told over the last few months. I would give the show an 8.5/10. Loved every match and all the builds. Do wish there was 1 more women’s watch or storyline though. Otherwise it was borderline perfect minus the overbooking and only 2 women’s matches. Hopefully that changes when Jamie comes back it the Julia and skye blue angles were amazing and Julia winning was such a highlight and payoff for the fans who have been watching her since the beginning

I loved the show and then I found out that people were complaining again, that say "nO sToryLiNes" and when there are storylines people complain. I loved the No 🚫 IWC (internet wrestling community), we should see those all the time.

Honestly I don't think your Elite take is hot at all because even as a Elite diehard I'm simply not arsed. I'm more hot on the Bucks turning heel because I vibe with the entitled babies gimmick they play, but I totally get your point about their gimmick because I felt the exact same about Adam Cole pre-face turn

Show had a couple good moments but not enough and the ppv's are getting worse and worse with the main event being absolutely TERRIBLE.

the hangman / swerve finish was such an odd choice. The heel needs to get his comeuppance after tormenting Hangman's family. At the very least, if swerve needed to win, the mogul should've carried him to the back.

The main event didn’t need that double swerve. I hope they take note on the genuine reactions (I know it’s harder with the bad faith bs on Twitter). The wrestlers involved were capable of so much more. It felt like a dynamite match instead of a ppv. Hopefully they don’t do this again.

I think I'm in the minority with the MJF angle. When the pre show ended I was so invested in the whole show knowing that something was cooking for the main event. I also don't think it necessarily made Jay look weak because the story is that his arrogance cost him. It also took a kick to the dick and a weapon shot to the head to beat him. Add to that the fact that he's never lost a singles match in AEW and basically had the better of Max for the past 6 weeks and I think it was all pretty well done. I enjoyed it anyway, but enjoyment is subjective and I understand the criticism

MJF vs Jay White should’ve been a wrestling Masterclass, instead we got a 2012 super cena gimmick match that felt pointless the whole time…and nothing happening with the devil at the end made me very angry after the paper view

Lost me when they let Julia go over. Shes not even near ready yet. Stat just came back. You just put the big belt back on Toni. Stat got screwed. Tony keeps running off his stars.

One last point about the devil. Not be in there as much as I do not want it to be adam cole. The way Adam Cole was pushing the NJF in the match being called a straction and him f****** up 2 times Could point to the devil actually was there

That main event was like those gross videos where someone makes a burger and then pours cheese all over it. The burger is great, you don't need to fuck with it, but they did and it was just weird and unnecessary and brought the whole thing down a peg. I still enjoyed it because the bulk of it was a good wrestling match, but it sucked to see something I was so hyped for brought down by so much unnecessary shit. Here's hoping they get a rematch with no frills that shows why both of them are top tier wrestlers.

Both women’s matches were very boring in comparison to the rest of the card. The three way match should have been on the pre-show or Collision. I’m fine with Toni/Shida on the main card, but that match should have been a few minutes shorter. Crowd wasn’t into it from the start and it dragged a lot.

MJF's title run, barring a few matches, has been extremely underwhelming. A far cry from the glorious reign of Omega.

Only thing I was iffy about was the main event. It was a great angle stacking the deck against mjf, but I thought it made jay look weak. hopefully jay learns that he shouldn't rely on cheap tactics n bullet club to win for him n instead bet on himself n his own ability. Then the next title match he has he's more focused n we get a better switchblade

If I have one issue with the card it's toni winning the title. Now I love toni she's killing it and her new gimmick is so good but that's the issue, she's too good to be off tv, shida on the other hand is crazy good but she'll now dissappear from tv cus you can only have 1 women's match per tv show.
