I agree with most of what you said. I am a fan of AEW, but my three problems with wrestledream are; 1. Your world champion is not being treated like a world champion on a ppv. 2. There are too many NJPW wrestlers on the card while many of your AEW stars are not on the show. 3. I disagree that more ppv a year is a good thing, but if you're going to do it, they all can't be this long. But I love AEW, and I am excited about the upcoming shows.

Indeed. Negative people on the internet tend to use the weak argument of tv ratings (as if in 2023 the majority of households were still mostly watching cable tv rather than streaming), but personally I find these last couple of years the most exciting since the late 90s. Having two large promotions, even if WWE is an entertainment behemoth that will likely always remain the market leader, is great not only for fans but first and foremost for wrestlers and all the people working in the industry that will have more and better opportunities to work. Wrestlers jumping across promotions after a good run just keeps the product fresh: it was great to see Cody successful programmes against Seth and Lesnar, Christian finally realizing his full potential, seeing brand new match-ups and feuds becoming possible for Edge and Jade.

I’m still speechless 24 hours later. The show delivered in high quality matches such as Swerve Vs Hangman, Bryan Vs Sabre Jr., the Trios match with Jericho and Omega Vs the Callis Family, and of course that main event for the TNT Championship was just flat out awesome and horrifying at points, but that ending, was truly legendary. I know the rumors were a thing already, but I still went in blank, not getting my expectations high in order to not leave disappointed, but when those lights went out, I let my mind loose. It was easily one of the greatest moments ever, and when “you think you know him” played, I was just crying. Edge in AEW is something I never thought would’ve happened and I’m SO excited for all the dream matches that can happen now. Overall, this is in my opinion, AEW’s best PPV in its entire history. Many great matches from start to finish, and an ending that has fans still talking days later. Tony Khan definitely did Inoki proud with this masterpiece of a show.😌👏

That trios match was the worst match that I’ve personally ever seen with men’s division wrestlers. It spoiled the whole thing for me because after that match I just wanted to watch something else. Just pure chaos of 6 people doing moves with no rules, no selling, everything looked fake and planned and ridiculous, there was hand holding and stupid posing and synchronized diving and forearm punches galore. It was so ridiculous that it made me embarrassed to be a fan and to have paid for the event. But I did love the main event and several other matches.

@Samurai_Stoner No, it was confirmed in all of the stories with Brawl Out (and this is including Punk's side) that Punk through the first punch, which would make him the aggressor in a legal sense. Plus, Punk said in the scrum that if ANYONE had a problem with what he was saying, they can COME TO HIS LOCKER ROOM (which negates your whole metaphor because he QUITE LITERALLY invited them), which is something you Punk fan boys seem to consistently leave out. With Brawl In, Jack may have started it with that comment, but Punk, once again, threw the first punch and was entirely the aggressor in that situation (and he may or may not have threatened Tony Khan, his boss, as well). Meanwhile, the Elite have completely stayed out of trouble since Brawl Out. It's almost like the unprofessional one here... is Punk. Sure, Jack acted unprofessional, but Jack's, what, in his early 20s? I was an immature dipshit in my early 20s. Meanwhile, Punk's in his goddamn 40s, he should know better by now.
@SeanStrife
@SeanStrife 9 ай бұрын
@Samurai_Stoner Dude, PUNK HIMSELF got pissy over Hangman's promo which was so subtle that no one would've picked up on that shit otherwise. Also, your "promo" quip is wrong on 2 fronts: 1.) That wasn't a promo, that was a shoot. Huge difference; a promo would imply it was building to something and it very clearly didn't. 2.) Hangman wasn't even in the fucking arena when that happened; he'd already gone back to his hotel. It was The Bucks and Omega, and Omega reached out to work shit out with Punk shortly after everything (including Ace Steel biting him, and don't even try to deny that; there's photographic evidence of Omega over in Japan doing the talk show circuit with a very visible bite mark on his arm). Not even gonna deny the Jack Perry stuff, but if Jack's dumb enough to take that bump, let him. And on that particular portion, I actually AGREE with Punk... and that's the difference between you and I: I'm looking at it objectively, why you're looking at it like a total Punk dickrider.

Fully agree. Even for people who only watch WWE, it is ridiculous for them to wish AEW to fail: do they really want their favourite wrestlers to be paid less and have no leverage, and little to no efforts being put into the shows as it was during most of 2010s (damn, at some point they no longer even bothered having pyros)? I would assume that the majority of WWE-only fans would have to agree that the shows they watch have significantly improved since 2022, and I do not believe that was just a coincidence.

On Monday after finishing watching the ppv, my first thought was how resiliant AEW has shown once again to be. The Punk fiasco had pretty much killed straight away most of the momentum gained at All In, and Jade signing with WWE instead of renewing with AEW (btw, kudos for the great sendoff she received with probably her best match against Kris) whilst not really negatively affecting the product had strengthened the perception that the company was losing steam. Yet the talent still managed to first put together solid shows with All Out and Grand Slam, storyline-driven matches started again to be more prominently featured, and now with Wrestledream not only we got a ppv with a "classic AEW" feel, but with the debut of a big star Adam Copeland (who not only has the impressive HoF palmares in WWE, but has shown there that he's still in great in-ring shape) also sent the message that they are still an attractive alternative for top wrestlers.

In a statement about his WWE departure, Adam Copeland talked about how 'a segment' of fans have become tribal, and have become fans of an acronym, rather than fans of pro wrestling. I suspect, strongly, that it's the same group of fans who are the ones who downplay AEW’s success, or who perpetuate that AEW have some kind of perception problem. For every one KZbin channel like this one, there are 50 that are masquerading as information channels, when they're really just pro WWE super fans spewing tribal company propaganda. But with that said, I don't need to believe that AEW and WWE are peers in terms of finances, the size of the fan base, or pop culture success. Just because McDonald's has more restaurants, doesn't mean they serve the best food. Just because WWE has the most paying customers, doesn't mean they put on the best actual wrestling. If you're reading this comment on this KZbin channel, you already know this. (Edited only due to typos, not content)

Someone like edge, Cole, Danielson comes in and they get the good treatment. But when punk came in, the elite went right after him. I know some won't agree with me, but until he crossed paths with page and that issue got going, he didn't have any kind of issues with anyone. Tony khan should've handled that right then and there. He made it the destination place so that the generation below him( Adam page, Young bucks, Adam cole) Could make a living and get television time... When I really feel like punk never got to thank you he deserves... Granted I have a lot Straight edge friends, they can be difficult because they're so bound to their ideals, however. I always wondered where the hell was the big show? Where was mark Henry? There's nobody in the back that can separate people and put them in their place.

That main event had absolutely everything! The history behind it between Christian Cage and Darby Allin, Luchasaurus and Nick Wayne having decisions to make, pure wrestling to start the bout, pure violence, entertainment, unpredictability and the crowd went crazy for everything these two did! Christian Cage is on a phenomenal run! Hope he gets an even bigger push and win the AEW Championship after this title run. Darby is growing into one of the best as well.

There was only 7,000 paid at this PPV and the buy rate is only about 100,000 - both numbers are way, way less than what they’ve been doing. This is a result of months and months of poor booking and bad TV. The company has been so cold. Look how hot they were 18 months ago. And look now. The only way to get back to that is to have consistently better TV, focused on a smaller number of wrestlers. When everyone is focused on, nobody is a star. Tony needs to pick 8-10 guys and go with them, then fill in the blanks around them. Really concentrate on stories around these people, give them all the promo and vignette time, make them larger than life. Stop the on/off again booking, and capitalise on momentum. Meltzer said it best when AEW first started: “I’ve been covering wrestling wars for 40 years, and the company that puts on the best wrestling doesn’t win - the company who creates the biggest stars people want to see win.”

Seattle not doing as well, probably has a lot to do with the booking of the past and these few months leading to here, are gonna have to continue on that right track. PPV buyrate doesn’t help, we’ve had like 3 PPVs in 36 days. So, doing 400k in the span of a little over a month isn’t bad at all, it proves to WBD what you can do for them.

With regards to whybthe Bucks won, I genuinely think Aussie Open were booked to win the tagbtitles, but after Mark Davis's wrist injury an audible was called for FTR to retain. The Bucks winning meant they were to be Aussie Opens first big win. Just a theory anyways.

WrestleDream was a bounce back ppv that AEW needed especially perception wise. Having Edge come in and seemingly very excited is what they needed I'm mean let's be honest AEW has not felt the same since All out 2022 with the Punk/Elite situation no matter who's side you were on it just left a really bad taste in fans mouths and it really took away from the product. But with Edge coming in it does feel like a rebirth period for AEW and like Tony said now that they have collision on Saturdays now that also helps take some of the pressure off of dynamite and trying to find TV time for everyone. I'm excited as a wrestling fan not just an AEW fan but a wrestling fan to see what they do next competition is only a win win for both companies and most importantly the fans.

Not to make everything about Punk, but as an ardent Punk defender. He really put a damper on AEW for me. Whether you loved him or hated him, your going to have negative feelings directed actively against a part of the show. There is really no winners there. The fan base was cannibalizing itself, but in the end I think AEW is well on it's way to weathering the storm, lessons learned for all, and big things to come for AEW in the future. I'm very excited!

I've never missed a single weekly TV show or PPV since January 2019. When I recently saw the shift away from shows being overrun with enhancement matches, to Rampage actually being intriguing again....I thought of your video and the overall constructive criticism we the fans have been voicing. I think the final straw was there being 3 different Open Challenges, with 3 different Open Challenge Promos, on the same Collision.... ..and since then you can feel AEW no longer just spinning their wheels. It's refreshing and I have a lot of hope for this new era. I just wish AEW promoted their live events better....I would be going to Stockton if I had enough prep time.

It's been said a lot over the years but I'll say it myself; AEW reignited my love for wrestling. It's not about who's better at this point, the TV ratings don't mean shit to me. I either watch on KZbin,twitter or use pirate sites to watch anything wrestling these days. I don't hate WWE and I never will. For most wrestling fans, that was our first love of this sport. It's changed a lot and while I rarely watch them now, I still support some of the great talent there. Aew being the alternative gave me a great contrast in terms of ring quality. It's fucking insane to see what some of these wrestlers will do. I think they're beginning to get a hold of character work being essential to the craft now and Copeland as an addition definitely shines a light on the horizon there. In general I like the fact both companies are different from each other while still offering the same kind of entertainment. Excited to see what's next, hell of a signing 💯💯💯

Can’t wait for Will vs King Switch, Will vs Adam Copeland, Will vs MJF! Holy shit!!!
