Hey a trick for the wires is to disconnect one, and connect it to the new capacitor. Repeat this one at a time that way you don't have to memorize anything. This method is very useful for jobs where there are multiple hoses/wires that go in specific ports, such as replacing a power steering pump, a distributer cap, fuel filter, and even computer repair. Just my 2 cents. Otherwise, great vid!

These types of capacitors can be expense at the local hardware store .. maybe 60 bucks. So keep an extra capacitor in your utility drawer .. so when if goes out you'll be prepared and won't have a delay in getting it fixed. Online .. you'll pay less than 20 usually. (i.e. Amazon)

Several days ago only hot air would come out. I called out an HVAC guy and paid $320.00 to get my AC fixed. Then a couple of days later my second unit did the same thing. Now I'm thinking, "Did this guy sabotage my second unit?" I know, what a thought. But for both units to go out within days of one another? Anyway, this time I went to You Tube University. I watched your video and a few others and was pointed toward the capacitor. I followed your instructions, and now $28.00 later and the time and gas it took to pick up the part, my AC unit blowing out cold air again! I'm not mad at professionals who make a living off of customers without the knowledge or time to DIY. But I am immensely grateful for people like you who graciously, and so competently, make knowledge available so people with the time and inclination to DIY can do so. $320.00 vs $28.00 Incredible!!!

Would cost you about $300-$400 depending on the ridiculous markup for an $8 cap if you hired a tech. If you have everything you need, will take you about 20 mins if you know how to use a nut driver :P Bravo!

Googled why air conditioner not working google said it's probably a defective capacitor, googled what's a capacitor, google said it's an electrical component that can hold a charge, google what's charge google said it's a difference in the number of electrons and protons in matter, causing the matter to experience a force when placed in an electromagnetic field. Googled what's an electron what's a proton, what's matter, what's a force, what's electromagnetic field. Google said, an electron is a subatomic particle with a negative electrical charge found in all atoms, a proton is also a subatomic particle with positive electrical charge equal to that of a electron, matter is all stuff in the universe, google also said force is a change in acceleration or direction, and an electromagnetic field is a property of the universe that affects charged matter making it experience a force. Googled what's a subatomic particle what's an atom, what's acceleration, what's an universe. Google said a subatomic particle is a particle of matter much smaller than atoms, acceleration is the change in velocity or the change in direction of an object, and the universe is all existing matter and space as a whole, everything we know. Googled, what's velocity, google said velocity is the change in displacement over the change in time, google what is displacement. google said it's change in position of an object in relation to a reference. Ok, that would've been a little bit too far, but at least got all the facts down, now we know what a capacitor is :)

Safety also requires one to check the circuit after its shut off with a meter or voltage tester. Some air condittioners are wired wrong and can still have power to the unit. Some can have 2 or more units next to each other and one can turn off one going to a different unit by mistake.

I got the safety glasses on but you didn't actually show turning off the power 😯 Safety is number one, not number two. I hope nobody get shocked 🤯
@illusivec8 жыл бұрын
No. Please don't. Changing a tire is one thing. Playing with big ass cap with possibly thousands watts of charge is another thing. If you forget to discharge it before handling, there is a very real possibility that capacitor will kill you. Even after discharging it, i wouldn't touch that thing without insulator gloves. It could be damaged, and while trying to pry it from the unit it could blow up. Low chance of this happening, but why gamble with your life? Unless you are experienced in high power electronics, this is not an operation you should be performing by yourself regardless of gender. Call in a professional.

Run caps don't hold charge. Only start caps. And even those have resistors build into them to discharge them
@rameynoodles1528 жыл бұрын
You have no idea what you are talking about, or you are trolling... All capacitors hold charge. That's the definition of a capacitor. If it doesn't hold a charge, then it's not a capacitor. Also, resistors resist the flow of current, and do not help to discharge capacitors.
