Is your furnace or AC motor not starting? This video shows how to safely discharge and test a capacitor with a multimeter. Capacitors are used to energize the start winding in single phase motors. Capacitors can weaken or fail over time which can prevent the motor from running properly. Capacitor testing can help determine if the capacitor still operates within its rated capacitance.
In this episode of Spec. Sense, you'll also learn how capacitors work, what the capacitor ratings mean (MFD / uF) and the differences between a start capacitor, run capacitor, and dual run capacitor.
