I've been in sexaholics anonymous for over 22 years. I am a hardened addict, but I've also spent many years clean and free. For people like me, the only solution is the spiritual one. I could write a book on this, but to be brief I would say take the road of Sainthood. This is what I have done and it works well!!! I don't say I am a saint, but I ask God every day to make me one, and I make all efforts to become one. I go to extremes in some things. I completely agree with the fasting and prayer. I am RCC, and the Rosary is heavy armor too. You don't have to be Catholic to pray it, but I would get permission from your pastor before you attempt this. He is your spiritual authority, and if he says no, then no is no, but there is no harm in asking.

Many of us who were raised in the massive educational experimentation of the so-called "sexual revolution" era, were sexualised early, and thoroughly corrupted and lost by early adulthood. For many of us, sexual corruption is even more than just one more sin. It is baked into our everyday lives, having been "coached" in the spirit of "if it feels good, do it - if it feels great, do it all the time!" Coming to Orthodoxy and baptism, this has plagued us constantly. It is a fleshly reflex in so many cases, as if a chunk of hot steel were speeding at one's eye, and one reflexively flinches and evades. The Evil One knows this, and is furious at losing us to the Way of Truth in Christ. So he steps up his attacks, through the constant demonic whisperings and cajolings of his myriad minions. Pray for us, for the enemy is powerfully arrayed against us, and we have much "conditioning" to overcome. I will forgive what was done to us in the name of "progress and enlightenment". But I will not forget. I therefore guard my children jealously and furiously from the even more extreme carnal depravities of this New Age era we live in. Satan wins many battles against me, but he will lose the war, if God be for me. And he will not even win so much as a skirmish against my children in this regard, whilst I still have faith in my heart, and zeal for Christ! Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

@@heinmolenaar6750 I think he means it more like the sexual revolution made sex less valued. Like sex is used to sell things, sex is easily had, people don't value their bodies and chasitity as highly. Like sex itself isn't a sin, but like anything else, the lack of moderation is a problem. The sexual revolution has made sex something like an idol for all rather than simply apart of a healthy and holy marriage. At least, that's what I think he means and how I see it. I hope it helps

May I ask why is your name BlackSabbath? After your comment here I was curious and looked it up thinking it would be something edifying (cause your comment here was) and got confused on why as a Christian you would use such a name. The band with this name promoted things opposite to orthodoxy and emphasised screaming guitar solos and howled vocals full of lyrics expressing mental anguish and macabre fantasies.

Thank you Father. This is exactly what I had thought and came conclusive to. I had an anonymous Reddit thread that insisted that these desires were a gift from God, and I’ll never be free of them so I should just accept it and give in. I knew it just couldn’t be true. I knew through fasting, daily prayers, and discipline these things can be overcome. Temptation may always be there but it doesn’t need to control us, and we can’t take up identity in fleshly desires. My first big step has been to write down my prayer rule, and my spiritual goals. Please pray for me and all those others who also struggle.

Thank you for this message, Father. Forgive me please for this long comment. My name is Jason. I am a catechumen. I have received the blessing/prayer from the local priest to become a catechumen “officially.” So although I know I am on the path, I still don’t feel like I am “in” the Church - only the narthex, so to speak… I have been neck-deep in the spiritual world for several years now, treading water daily - only to realize recently just how much prelest I have suffered from all these years, and how much help I truly need… This summer I had an experience of grace in a Liturgy service. I will not say anymore here… I have since clung to the Church with all my heart. I realize how utterly wrong I’ve been about everything in my “spiritual life” until now. I repent, Father… I know I cannot do it alone anymore. Poetically speaking, I am in the waiting room of the hospital, bleeding out while I wait to be seen. I have waited my whole life for Christ - and can wait a bit longer if I must... But, oh Father, how hard it is! What’s a guy like me to “do,” who is unable to partake in the mysteries for healing and protection? I am not baptized. I am not chrismated. I cannot partake in confession; I do not have a spiritual father. So on and so on. But, boy do I suffer from demonic attacks regularly. (I used to consider myself a ‘gnostic warrior,’ who sought to bring light to darkness - only to see now the luciferian archetype behind all that…) I read/hear about the gifts orthodox Christians have to fight these demons and call upon the saints for intercession. I confess, I feel like utter phony for doing so simply “because” I am not a baptized Orthodox Christian; nor do I want to pervert or distort the teachings of Christ and His Church by thinking I am saved *just because* I am a catechumen now… I do not feel comfortable using the Jesus Prayer without guidance, out of fear of prelest (I have plenty of stories about how I used to “pray,” and how I think it was so much of that which let me fall into the hands of demons. I want nothing to do with self-guided spirituality anymore…). And as one who’s sinned greatly against the feminine, I find great peace and penance in praying to the Mother of God. It seems like I can do that and not feel fraudulent. I will do whatever it takes to get right with Her. She has interceded for me so many times in the past, without me ever knowing until now that it was She who was doing so. I owe so much of my salvation to her help. She, through the Church, revealed Christ to me. But even here, I want to be mindful of my speech; is it prelest to even say such things about the Theotokos here in an extended youtube comment? I mean it… Lord have mercy. Apologies for the ramblings, Father. I could go on and on, but I’m sure you’ve encountered people like myself over the years, so I’ll just leave it all here. Messy as it is. Regarding patience, and being one who suffers daily from onslaughts of spiritual attacks, is it “better” to wait until Lazarus Saturday for baptism? Or should I get baptized as soon as possible? I know these are unfair questions to ask without you having a greater context of my life story. I know, ultimately, Christ will guide, so I do not expect you to wrap this up all nice and pretty with a bow on top. I take the Church so seriously now. I just want to conform myself to what the Church and Christ want of me. But I don’t know what that actually entails… I trust my local priest. He is very busy with the tending parish (essentially single-handedly) and his large family, and I feel “guilty” in demanding too much of him - poor ol’ little me, the thirtysomething spiritual dude who ate too many mushrooms back in the day, who has come out of his delusions, and now just want to let that all go to the pigs and be born again… I have been “mystical” and “hermetic” for a long while. I say that only to say that asceticism and spiritual struggles are nothing new to me, but they ARE entirely recontextualized now in the light of Christ and His Church… Oh, how unguided and unbridled I have been! I am a patient man, and can wait years more if I have to - but oh, Father, it’s been tough! I apologize again for this lengthy and meandering letter. Any word or words you have would be of great appreciation, but not expected. If you could please pray for me, Father. With love, -Jason Hall

What's the spiritual remedy for denying one's spouse in marriage? I don't know if it's due to our being overly busy, both parents working, or the sorry state of modern marriages (disharmony), but married couples today are probably having less sex than ever before in history. I think that one quarter of them in the US are considered sexless. That can't be a good thing for families.

I mean, part of it is probably directly dependent on our goals and values. Nobody wants children anymore, but nobody wants nihilism either, and sex without the goal of having children eventually gets old because it has no other meaning to us besides pleasure. It can be selfishness, it could also be medical. 🤷‍♀️ It could also be mutual abstention like we do during fasting days and seasons.

Do not despair but fight! We have to struggle with all of our might and humble ourselves, making every use of the means of grace that the Church gives us (Confession, church services, the Jesus Prayer, prostrations, fasting, reading the lives of the saints and the ascetical teachings of the saints, etc.). We must repent and never despair. Even if we have fallen into sin today, now is the time of repentance! Have courage and boldness against the enemy of your soul as a soldier in battle! Live moment by moment, with watchfulness and prayer, so we can immediately detect the enemy’s attacks and respond immediately! In an instant we can lose the battle and in the same instant we can gain the victory!

Religious addctions can be as destructive as sexual sins. I would like to see these orthodox monks living in the world, truly celebrating their sexuality, living with people from various faith traditions, working for living. Also, I have yet to see an orthodox monk refraining from taking the life of animsls and eating their temples. Frankly, there is so much missing in these post-nicene churches that has nothing to do with what serious and autonomous researchers have found about original christianity. This doesn't diminish the beauty and purity that also exists in orthodox ranks. But I have also yet to hear on orthodox father openly admitting his tradition is - as everything on earth - faulty and incomplete. That would be a truly great sign a new level of purity have arrived.
