Louis, you should start another channel for vids like this: How To Adult 101. Thank you for teaching other people the simple lesson of how to be kind and simply be a good person. We could use a lot more people with this understanding. In regards to providing value, it's a lesson touched on in Sir Jackie Stewart's (3-time Formula 1 World Champion) autobiography. If you ever get the opportunity, I'm sure you'd love the other insights about life he shares. Things like this and the Right To Repair fight prove that you're no longer a schmuck.
@knarFkcalB

Bingo. Louis, you've figured out at a relatively young age what many people never get right: Fulfillment comes from helping others, rather than yourself. Making more money is so that you can do more good with it. Being able to live in a secure place, drive a reliable vehicle, is so that you don't have worry about those elements, and so can turn your focus outward to others who need YOU. Self-centered is another way of saying "miserable." Outwardly focused is another way of saying "in balance". "Happiness" is a decision you make to accept what you can't change and keep working on what you can. Being needed, and being ABLE to be of service to those you need you, is the absolute best.

That's when you go 'Hollywood' and try to let your friend see the light. Find him and make it your mission to convert this guy so that he, too, can achieve pure confidence and security. If you want my advice, I would start off by making it clear that you don't care about the business anymore. Sure, there's evil in the world -- too many (your friend likely included) default to narrow-mindedness and hostility to adapt to this evil -- but we can't give up on our friends because they haven't yet made the realization: true good lies in kindness. The human race SURVIVES on COLLABORATION, and it THRIVES on COMPASSION. Gandhi once said "we but mirror the world." If you don't want egocentricity to prevail, don't try to fight apathy with apathy -- fight it with action.

Sure, but the people I know (mostly working class) have to constantly watch out for violent junkies and robbers. Consider today's wages pinned against the cost of living. A lot of us are desperate for money, and the ones at the bottom of the barrel are growing their numbers. Crabs in a bucket. You're lucky if you got a leg up from a decent upbringing that taught you patience, tact, finance.

I grew up in and out of foster homes. Both of my parents were poly addicts. Both of which, I haven't seen over a decade - I'm 27. This is a really interesting point. Up until now, my mindset, on confidence and security, has always been about myself, overcoming my challenges in life - powered by my own steam. I was independent at 16. Went to school full time + worked 30+ hours a week, saved for 2 years, paid my way through college with $0 debt (And chose a program that was within my means). Now am working in field that pays well, and I can "say" I'm secure. However, confidence? A constant struggle. Thanks for sharing this video. It's given me a whole new perspective, to think about.

Wooh! That night and day difference when you hear someone say some real-world sensible advice; I'd almost forgotten what it sounded like. More in life has to do with the journey you take, than the destination you're heading to. And so often people don't truly grasp the meaning of that till it's too late. Solid job in getting the point across with a way that's relatable to people, some of the most important lessons in life also happen to be the most difficult to express in a meaningful way.

I agree with most of the video, but there are many areas unexplored in each of our lives. It's when we tackle them, take the time to learn and eventually become skilled at doing them is when we gain more confidence in those areas, (in my opinion) overall confidence comes from the belief of being able to do the things you set your mind to. With that, comes security.

Thank you for making these great videos. I just want to add the point that I gained much confidence when I learned on how to stand behind my own decisions. Often other people will try to manipulate your decisions to justify their own needs. Being able to withstand this and knowing to have the ability to stand behind my decisions afterwards without a bad conscience helped me a lot.

That studio owner gave you that space because you were down on your luck = someone he could take advantage of! Building code violations...who knows, he had reasons...BUT; a "good deed" never goes unpunished!

Well said. Everyone should hear this. So many of many peoples problems seem to grow from their own insecurity, drinking, smoking, being nasty to other people..

No one/no thing can give you self-confidence. Being rich doesnt give confidence, but being able to earn loads of money with skill does. Being muscular doesnt give you confidence, being able to defend yourself and others does. So its the skill that gives you end goal that people miss when chasing confidence. They see muscular guy and wanna muscles. They see wealthy engineer/lawyer and they want money. They see guy with beautiful girl and they dont realise that his charisma/sense of humor is the thing that is giving him confidence.

Security is not happiness. Happiness is about self-esteem and that you're worth living, that you're meaningful. That you're doing something truly good for yourself and others. It must come from the inside not the outside.

Good advice. Having to make it all work in a rough, expensive place like New York just adds fuel to the fire of your credibility. Keep it up!!

I enjoy your tech videos. But I have to say I enjoy these videos more. You have the skill of taking a complex personal issue and shinning light on it in a meaningful, relatable and unique way. I find your reflections on such issues to be closer to the truth than most self help gurus. Thank you.

And then there's the situation where what you think will make you happy, will actually make you happy. Just because you think something will make you happy doesn't mean it won't. Just because you believe in something doesn't mean you're necessarily wrong.

Really cool video and I totally agree. It's only the value that you as a person provide to those around you that can give you confidence and security.
