Another note is that 1080p doesn't always mean 1920x1080, only that the vertical dimension is 1080, so there are ultrawide monitors that are 1080p, but the horizontal dimension is not 1920. Same goes with 1440p. Also, UHD (2160p) is not actually true 4K

Correct. 4k is 4096 x 2160. Its an old Cinema Resolution. So technically 4k tv s aren t real 4k tv s.

HD (720p), FHD (1080p), QHD (1440p) and UHD (2160p), the 2K, 2.5K and 4K designations are just dumb as they could be applied to a plethora of different resolutions...

I discovered your channel a couple of days ago, and I have to say that I'm a fan. I like your content, I like your delivery, and I like your style. I also build computers and they tend to be value gaming systems that push the limit towards performance as best I can without jacking up the price, so your statement about buying, building, and reviewing more value oriented products I think hit the nail on the head. I'm glad someone finally did a good video on the various monitor resolutions. Next time someone asks me to explain I'll just point them here. Keep it up dude, and I wish you the best of luck.

Good video Greg! This will help a lot of people I'm sure. The only thing you forgot was to include the more proper "UHD" Ultra HD moniker for 2160p. 4k is the marketing gimmick name, since if we wanted to be consistent with the 4k idea, full HD (1080p) would actually be the 2k resolution, not 1440p. Love your videos man! Keep it up!

I have two ideas for future videos. The first is case fans and noise reduction and how to achieve this (big fans, small fans, CFM, RPM...). The second idea is the truth about static electricity and it's impact on components. I know this one is more difficult because you'd be potentially running many pieces, but if you can get a sponsor for that specific episode, it would be great, there isn't (to my knowledge) a guide explaining this so that could be unique for you. Anyway, congrats on 10k keep up it up man!
@GregSalazar
@GregSalazar 8 жыл бұрын
Great ideas! I'll see what I can do.
@MrRonan99
@MrRonan99 8 жыл бұрын
To reduce noise in fans, the best idea would be to reduce the vibration at the screws where they connect to the case, so materials where vibration is absorbed would be a good place to start. I recommend BeQuiet! Fans as they are extremely silent. Static electricity doesn't kill your electronics instantly like you'd think, slowly the degradation builds up. Think of it as, your GPU is running at 1.5V (estimate I don't know how many volts your GPU runs at) and when static electricity is discharged, it carries a voltage of upwards 100V. Now when you're Overclocking, increased voltage leads to heat right? Think about what happens when you have 100x the stock voltage running through that PCB

I would love to send you my main rig picture, but I don't use Twitter. That's ok. That being said, I use a 55" 444 Chroma 4k 60fps TV. I use a lot of custom resolutions from 1080p to 4k. I set them up as custom resolutions, and make sure they are devisable by 8 (true 16/9 resolution). It would be good to show a video to gamers on how to create the in between non native resolutions. It would help those that can do more than 1080p, but can't quite get 1440p, or someone that can hit 1800p, but not full 4k. Thanks for your work! This format is great btw. Every video doesn't have to have a lot of graphics. Information is the most valuable thing you can provide to your viewers!

Another great video mate. Something worth adding about ultra wide monitors. their standards are designated the same with UW at the start. ie. Full HD ultrawide is UWFHD. ultrawide Quad HD is UWQHD, ultrawide Ultra HD (4K) is UWUHD. being 21:9 they take about 30% more resources to drive than their 16:9 counterparts. enjoy. ps. I can't wait for UWUHD screens!

Thanks, I didn't know that. My 1st HD TV was around 2001 and it was only labeled as HD. I later concluded it was 720P. I had searched the internet and came up empty. Still 720 was a lot better than most back then. Now I have many 1080P's and one 4K but I won't be using it for my computer, just 3 1080P's on a GTX 980 TI for a few years hopefully, since it is downstairs in the living room.

To confuse things further, 'qHD' (lowercase q) is also a buzzword Sony uses for the Vita's screen resolution of 960x544. Only the 'q' in that qHD stands for 'quarter' (because 960x544 is quarter the resolution of Full HD/1920x1080).
@GregSalazar

Typically, the "Q" in that display resolution is lowercase, as in "qHD."

Absolutely (I must have edited that in between you initially reading the comment and responding). In speech though you could be forgiven for mixing the two up. Fortunately this term is now about as relevant as the Vita itself is... Which is not very...

4000ish horizontal pixels is 4K, but there are two type of 4K. 4K UHD (also know as 2160p) is 3840x2160. This is the resolution chosen for TVs and UHD Blurays. DCI 4K is a bit wider at 4096×2160 and is the resolution chosen by Cinemas. They will often show movies at other aspect ratios, letter-boxed ("Scope", 2.39:1, much wider than normal TV ratio of 16:9) 4096×1716 or pillar-boxed ("Flat", 1.85:1, very slightly wider than 16:9) 3996×2160.

Hi there, I'm fairly new to your content and I'm really enjoying it so far. I do enjoy this style of video. But I also have a question, would you recommend 1440p over 4K? On the topic of computer budget: I believe the best choice is always going for price/performance and what satisfies your personal needs. I still have my i5 2500k@stock and I see no reason to upgrade (waiting on Zen or Zen v2 maybe though). I bought an Asus R9 270X at launch and I still don't feel the desperate need to upgrade, her only downside are the limited 2Gb Vram, but I game at 1080p and not that much games have asked for more, yet.

I like style you showed here in your video, its much less time consuming for you to make these and you can make more videos in future this way, without need of spending too much on editing, now of course, it wouldn't be bad if you make few videos per month that are really on highest quality you can make but --- Me personally, I like to learn things and you are able to bring the goodies instantly when you start talking. Great video. Nice, simple, informative. Technically 4K is 4096x2160 and 3840x2160 is UHD (Ultra High Definition). I think Linus did a video on it at that point, but common usage has kind of taken over and whose really counting at that point anyway :P

+Bhushan Vaidya A lot of the PCs you see in these videos aren't my "daily drivers." I just showcase them until the next build is featured.
