I'm going through this myself for real, as I retired this year and am looking to reduce my annual fees. Thinking of moving most of my grocery, gas, and catch-all as well as some dining to my US Bank Altitude Reserve, and keeping the Venture X and Savor One otherwise.

The Savor and SavorOne card is 3% on groceries not 4%. You only get 4% on dining, streaming and entertainment. If you are not spending $9500 annually, Savor card is not worth the fee.

I would get (well I already have it 😂) the CSR for all the amazing insurance and protections. I value Chase UR at 1.5CPP anyway, so even buying non-category items at 1X doesn’t bother me.

Oddly enough Amex is far and beyond the lender I spend the most money with on the personal side and is all the easiest to live without. This would be the setup using cards I already have. Food, entertainment, streaming: savor 1 Flights, travel, dining, & transit: CSR Catch all: CFU or Active cash Specialist 1: CFF Specialist 2: Autograph (gas & cellphone)

Definitely can’t sleep on the Chase offers! Got $75 back for $75 spend (so 100% reimbursed as statement credit) on my AT&T cellphone bill - twice! My cellphone bill is just under $75, so I got two months of free cellphone service with a little credit left over!

Well, I never "track" points on credit cards but, I have been around for many decades. So, what would my life have been like without American Express: 1st) I used to always send their money orders ... without them, I now send U.S. Post Office money orders; 2nd) For overseas travel would always buy their "travelers checks" ... without them, I now have to carry a couple of extra credit cards; 3rd) and their branch offices are a great place to exchange foreign currency ... would have to use airport money exchanges. Currently, I keep three (3) cards in my wallet a Master-Card with an interest rate of 8.9 APR, a VISA with an interest rate of 12.9 APR, and an American Express plumb charge card. In addition, I have a Lifetime membership in the United Airlines lounge (smile ... smile).

So far, I have not had any major problems. As long as, you ensure payment is received within 10-days American Express will post your statement credit which, helps to defer to cost of the annual fee. In reply to your second question, back in the 1980's, many business travelers would each yearly pay the annual fee to have access to one or two airline airport lounges. An airline that, I was flying during this time period offered a special reduced rate on their Lifetime lounge access. Several decades later, this airline was acquired by United Airlines. So, my Lifetime access was transferred to their airport clubs (smile ... smile).

As apparently most of the credit card KZbin space, every year I consider if I’m going to cancel the Platinum - and I never do. Now, if Amex ceased to exist, that would mean I lose my Plat, my NFCU Amex and one of my business cards. What would I do? Just move my travel spend over to my BILT from my Amex and buy a Priority Pass membership out of pocket. I’d probably end up with the CSR eventually, but I’d try to get by with all NAF cards for a while. Honestly, I’d cancel the Platinum tomorrow if someone came up with a membership that cost around $1000 a year and gave access to all the lounges globally. Kind of like the Founders Card, but for lounges and travel perks.
