I took a wrong turn, followed a narrow track far up into the hills and found a wonderful old abandoned farm to explore.

My husband and I, when young, used to do this very thing - exploring old abandoned farms and dreaming of restoring them. We've done many things through out our lives (married over 44 years) but most recently moved away from our long-time farm to a close-to-town tiny abandoned farm about 5 years ago. We have restored/rebuilt the house and are working on the rest. Here in the PNW of the USA, our little place is definitely NOT very old, but still - it needed us and we are slowly becoming its family. Please do many more abandoned places - your country & surrounding areas are much older and very interesting!

What a beautiful farm in desperate need of a very big renovation. What an amazing project that would be. There are days I am sad that my budget cannot keep up with my wishes and dreams but I am well aware that this is often a blessing in disguise.

I lack the funds and energy to keep up with my dreams too, and this farmhouse has featured in them plenty since I came across it. But, looking back at the footage, it's a huge huge project place. Still, if someone rich wanted to see what sort of videos I'd make in that place, and kindly bought it for me, I'd certainly try to rise to the challenge. 🙂

*Kia ora Tom 🙂 All the best for 2024 to you & your GF & family 🙂 Gosh even thou you took a wrong turn, it actually turned out to be the right turn. Gee whizz, there was lots of great finds to be had in this video.... and such a shame that the buildings have been left to fall apart... The old house could be fixed up, but I expect most probably at a great cost. I love seeing the old buildings... even in this kind of state... as they were once loved & lived in by a family. 🙂 NZ*

2nd attempt at writing this (the internet went out) As I was saying. If I could buy it, I'd be buying it for myself and you could visit anytime. Better idea! As I live in North Carolina, you could be my caretaker. Ah, it's fun to dream. This was a lovely video, Tom. Stunning views and property. Makes me nostalgic for my grandfather's farm. His great-great GF (so my great x 4 GF) was a pioneer on the Oregon trail and homesteaded a place in Western Oregon in 1856. Thanks for taking us along and thanks to your girlfriend for letting us have a walk about exploring. It was one of your best travel log-exploring videos yet. Cheers. Have a great week.

That was a lovely farm building, not surprised you fell for it. My late husband and I used to drive to Inverary every year through Hell’s Glen and dream of restoring one of the many tumbledown old cottages, not thinking that the name of the Glen might give a clue to what winters might be like! Hope you found somewhere nice to swim

The road from the Rest & Be Thankful to Lochgoilhead has been closed for months because of road repairs to bridge and boulder removals. So you would have to go via the A83. Hopefully it will be open soon as anyone who wants to go to Lochgoilhead or Carrick Castle (including our local bus) has to go on the steep, twisty single track road through Hell’s Glen. Not fun in weather like today.

I love to see the daffodils. How many generations of bulbs and people from when they were first planted. I wonder, was it a tidy garden. There's an old grave in my local church yard, full of snowdrops. I imagine the mourner only planted a few, over a hundred years ago.

Ooh, I'd forgotten about how daffodils get bigger and bigger each year. I didn't think to really measure them... but they did look fairly tall. I think there was a small bit of tidy garden, and quite a bit that was always a bit more wild. That grave site sounds lovely. 🙂

beaded basket lid- to a sewing basket. I have one with clear blue glass adornments. Was my Nana's. late 19th/early 20th C. I don't know if they're made in China, but could have been. Great video today! Thank you, Tom. I too am a dreamer. I obsess until I go on line and figure out how much $$ to do such-and-such-- the ONLY way I can break free. For instance, I recently viewed a vid about recycled plastics and a young couple in Australia(?) making countertops and etc., so I looked up the machines necessary to engage in such a business. Not dreaming about that anymore... LOL Those programs you have in England about rich people buying places like this (they're on KZbin) tell me all I need to know about the feasibility of such a dream... I have no idea what you should do with that forge/bass... I know nothing about brass casting. That's why all I can think of is a simple plinth-- to mount a more interesting copper wire sculpture of some sort. I really am coming up empty. Take good care-- and cheers from drippy, dreary Maine

Ah, if only the cost could dampen the dream in me. I reckon what I'd want to do with that place would cost over £1.1million, and I can't afford a hundredth of that... but, still the dream remains. Thankfully, I've many much smaller dreams to be going on with, and maybe some of them can help me get to the stage where I can indulge in some of the bigger dreams. 🙂 Thanks for the ID on the sewing basket top; I'm more used to the wooden, fold out tier sort. I've got my mum's old one as one of my art boxes now.

@@RunningGrass-we7tm Mostly smelled of grass, and mountain air. The inside of the 1st farm workers cottage smelled dry, and a bit dusty despite the water damage to the upstairs, the 2nd farm workers cottage smelled a bit mossy like a cave, rather than the usual rot and mildew smell you get in abandoned houses, the barn smelled of old straw and the mechanic workshop smelled of old oil, and old wood. I reckon there's a lot of money from all over flowing into that area, Londoners mostly but probably some from abroad, it's an outdoor adventure sort of place, with Cairngorm mountain very close, near to the fast growing town of Aviemore.

Oh, and I reckon it'd probably be around about £1.2million total, buying the farm and renovating most of it. Maybe more, considering the boom in property prices in the area, and the scarcity of tradespeople, (they're mostly engaged in new builds at the moment).

Just wondering. if you have a Channel to show your craft projects!? You talk about them but I don't where to see them. Would appreciate that information.'
