My grown daughter, her husband and two toddlers sold their home and moved into a travel trailer to follow work across the U.S., they have lived in Texas, Colorado & North Dakota now back to Texas over the past two years. Her whole life I have bought her "extras" ....clothing, shoes, jewelry and anything that would catch my fancy for her. She sat me down and said that she appreciates me thinking of her but NO MORE!! She can not begin to store the things I send! So anyone doing this should share with their friends and family! Be a Blessing, with love from Azerbaijan

Baku Expat. At least you were buying things she liked. My Mom buys things for me in her style, that don't suit my size, style or coloring(she's fair, I'm olive complected for instance). I feel terrible, but I nearly always have to donate them. I wish she would save her money.

I learnt from another you tuber that it helps to write down your lifestyle tasks such as meet friend for coffee, walk dog, supermarket run or going to yoga class and analyse what you would feel comfortable and chic in when you are doing those common lifestyle activities.

And I admit to being an engineering data geek. I keep an Excel workbook for my capsules where I layout the capsule and track the outfits I've worn. (I live in spreadsheets at work, so this was actually a fun lunch activity to put together) I added pull down lists each for tops, bottoms, and shoes. It keeps track of how many times I've worn each item. Not only does it give me analytic data to see what I'm wearing most (and least), but also I see how many creative combinations I can come up with.

I've been using a capsule wardrobe for nearly 6 month now and LOVE it. I was such a shopaholic before and constantly thinking about what else I could add to my wardrobe. Having a capsule wardrobe has been so refreshing, and I love my closet SO much more now! I like how having a capsule allows you to wear all of your favorite pieces all the time, it eliminates the excess. :) Thank you for making your videos! You were one of the youtubers that inspired me to create my first capsule, and change my channel from being all about hauls, etc to about minimalism and living a simpler life. :)

I actually love going into my closet ever since starting my capsule wardrobe journey. I also enjoy getting dressed, doing the laundry, folding my cloths, etc. I don't have any more stress about how I look. I in fact get a lots of compliments on my dress wear. Everything has become simple: my jewelry, my makeup, my food, literally everything! Knowing I'm not alone has helped ease my journey. I love the online community. It is filled with people to encourage, uplift, and support one another. I'm very glad I pursued what I have always wanted in my heart. Thank you!

Aksum Princess That's so awesome! It's amazing how seeing the benefits of simplifying one thing makes you want to simplify everything. :) I totally agree with you about the online community, it's so supportive and inspiring! I don't know very many people in person pursuing minimalism so it's really nice to be able to connect with people online who are going through similar experiences.

I was really inspired by ur video. I'm from China and when I was little the financial condition in my family was not so good. So my mom would always blame me for throwing away old clothes, I almost always had to live with those clothes that I didn't like and always felt the need to buy more. Now I live with my boyfriend and found out that I actually grew up to be a minimalist. The step of getting rid things is really important, and there shouldn't be any guilt included because by doing this u r actually saving a lot. Again, thx for ur video:)

Great video! I did my first capsule this season and it has taught me so much. My biggest pit fall has been wanting to follow the rules too strictly and following other's capsules too closely. I'm slowly letting go, and not shopping is helping me find freedom and versatility within what I already have. I even realized I really didn't love pieces I thought I did. It's a real eye opener.
@GlammyBee

I totally concur! Project333 isn't just about having rules. They're guidelines to help you go from a lot of ok, meh clothes to a wardrobe you love. Instead of buying a single item because it's on sale, I now stop to consider if I really need it, do I love it, and does it work with my wardrobe as a whole. I'm finding that with buying fewer pieces, I'm looking at much higher quality brands that I would not have previously My big take away from project333 is that I'm more *mindful* of my choices. And that goes way beyond just my wardrobe.

Great video! I've never owned a ton of clothes but when I first heard about project 333 and capsule wardrobes it inspired me to clear out old items and things I was keeping just in case or as "loungewear". My wardrobe is down to about 40-50 items for all seasons and my main problem now is being an incredibly fussy shopper - it takes me so long to find something that I love and fits in with my ethics/budget!
@dianafromcanada516
@dianafromcanada516 7 жыл бұрын
My first step was keeping track of what I wear in a database (it's been 14 months). Then, I was able to clear out all the clothes I didn't wear. Then, I started to add in missing pieces that would allow me to style all the clothes that I kept. Of course, throughout this process, I educated myself on the fashion industry and the terrible consequences of this huge industry on the environment, human life around the world and the suffering involved in consumerist ways. Now, I only buy second hand. I take my time to make new purchases and really think about what I need to make my wardrobe work (no impulse buying). I don't buy more of the same things (one pair of black jeans is enough !). I take care of my clothes. I feel like I'm more able to know what my personal style is because each new piece is meaningful in terms of style, colour, quality, fabric, fit, compatibility with my other clothes, etc. In that same way, I pay more attention to bags, shoes and accessories to keep it fun ! I have a main set of basics that I wear throughout the year and seasonal pieces on rotation that I store when not in use. It allows me to shop in my own closet and have fun with colours. With my capsule wardrobe I take pleasure into dressing up everyday. I will never go back to my consumerist ways and insatiable, undefined, overwhelming and quite costly wardrobe. Thank you.

I stumbled on your account when I looked up strong fabrics for a dog harness I wanted to design. It was a video about the different types of fabrics. Being a guy, I thought that was the most I would get out of your channel. Surprisingly though, this video came along, and I realized you were basically describing my ideal clothing situation, and that's when I realized this this channel for everyone. Keep it up! Subbed!

Nice to see an AFTER video of Project 333. Encouraging to hear you still like it after a year and won't go back. I need to reduce too, and I can see how it makes you want to reduce in every other category too, not just clothes. Lots of work ahead of me 😬 hope to find the time.

Great video! tks :) I am only in my second season, but I already love it. I'm learning to wear what I love everyday, instead of "keeping it for a special occasion" that never comes, and it feels good! And I love colors and the season color palette scheme, so what I did was to roughly split my colors (deep winter) into 4 palettes, one for each capsule of the year. It's great not only the novelty feeling of unpacking clothes I haven't seen for 3 months, but also the novelty of the colors in each change of season. And of course - I've already realized I need a lot less than I thought. Thanks for the tips and inspiration!

I recently created my first capsule wardrobe, it was perfect. I included every activities I knew I would be doing this summer - beach outfits, fun clothes for going out at night, and casual outfits, since I'm on a summer brake, and didn't plan to wear anything fancy. Then a two-week job opportunity turned up and I really couldn't stick to the clothes I planned on wearing. And I'm apparently going to the mountains next week where it's gonna be really cold. So I felt kind of guilty... But I'm definitely feeling so much happier after this video! I send you a big thank-you hug!

I think it is a journey of discovery and unfoldment. It's not something that can be done overnight I've noticed :) I sew my own clothes therefore making my challenge slightly different. It's easy to get lost in all the patterns and fabrics available, making things that look great in my vision with fabric that is alluring yet ending up with "orphan" garments that don't go with anything nor in fact what look good on my body. I think the Curated Closet is helping me a lot with this discovery. Love your video! Gentle yet nudging advice :)

This is the first that I've heard of Project 333 and I am new to your channel. I already have a wardrobe that is small by U.S. standards, but I am definitely going to take it all much further. I was raised in a "fewer pieces better quality" and less is more home, which I have continued to practice. I have never shopped "big box" and hate clutter, which puts me in a good frame of mind to go for a capsule wardrobe. I just saw your video on laundering clothing and would add to be careful if you have perspired in your clothing, it is hard on clothing not to be washed when you sweat in them, but gently. I hang most of my clothing to dry. Living in Los Angeles helps things dry quickly, and I have a portable clothesline for outside as well. I have a number of pieces that are over a decade old, so it is possible to invest in solid items that transcend time. I am really enjoying your videos and at 55 years old, I am really in a place to live more simply. Thank you!

I am totally doing this, I tend to where the same thing's, pretty much every time(2 of my favorite tunics, my leggings are my go to bottoms and my black skirts which consists of about 3. And my wool wrap skirt for winter) I have way to many leggings but were them so much it doesn't matter, I would probably not include the clothes I were to chores in mine though, as I need 3-4 sets so they can be washed frequently. So excited, I think I am going to create mine for spring tomorrow :)

totally agree with you about the seasons and not feeling like you have to stick exactly to a number of things. I'm in England where it's cold and overcast and rainy about 80% of the year, ok for 15% and then baking hot for like 2 weeks. Also I feel the cold really badly and split my time between the country and the city - I'm not going to wear a mud splattered tweed jacket to a smart event in the city, any more than I'm going to wear cashmere gloves in a field where they're going to get covered in dog hair, mud and horse snot... and I'm not going to stand around scratching my head for hours trying to find a compromise between two totally different lifestyles. As with the whole Minimalist movement, there's the danger of getting caught up in numbers and forgetting the point which is finding the smallest amount that works for you :D I have about 54 items for winter which accommodates formal wear, casual wear, country wear and city wear. As I go through winter I may be able to phase out a few things but I'm not going to be giving myself a hard time because I haven't reached someone elses standard of minimalism : )

I'm starting out my capsule wardrobe, but I've decided to make it two 2 categories: Spring/summer and Fall/winter. That, because living up north the seasons just don't fit in the same months and are not the same lengths as the US. So sometimes it's imperative to bend the rules!

+Emilie Bouchard Yes totally! I live in canada and we have freezing rain and snow, when we just had weather like late spring/ early summer. I am going to still switch out 4 time's a year, but make sure to always have 2 sweaters(One light, One Heavier) in my capsule wardrobe. Because it can get cold in the summer here. :)

one thing i did was looking through my selfies. I take selfies whenever i feel good in my outfit. I noticed that i allways tended to wear the same clothes that i allready had for YEARS. I dont have too many items. But one thing i dont tend to minimize are my black grafic tees. i have tons of them. But they do make me super happy, i love the nerdy stuff.. So it doesnt matter to me, and they go with every other item anyway.

I am just in my first capsule wardrobe now and I am loving it. It is so easy to get dressed in the morning and packing is a breeze!! My main question is how did you find transitioning from warmer to cooler seasons and vice versa.
@MyGreenCloset
@MyGreenCloset 9 жыл бұрын
Nanci-jean Franks Happy you're enjoying your capsule!! I think the best thing is to have pieces that layer well and that are versatile for transitional weather. My biggest issue in the fall was having some thicker items that didn't fit well under anything, so thinking about different layering options is good. Also I found the winter to spring transition to be the most challenging mainly because the weather was really unpredictable but it worked out ok having a mix of warmer and cooler weather items.

I've been clearing and replacing my most worn pieces with much higher quality but I don't think I could ever put the other stuff away because it's not seasonal or a dressy dress, for 1 the weather here is mad, it can be sunshine in the morning and then put with rain by afternoon so ben able to pull a winter coat out in summer is essential, similarly last winter was incredibly mild for us and this year we've had snow already lol as for dressing up, that stuff is still hung because who has the time to root for something or iron when your off out, I guess it's just that I'm busy and often I'll get only a couple hours to get ready and id much rather spend that in the bath or on my hair lol side note though, de-cluttering and buy-in quality is fab, i definitely own less stuff and wear more of my collection now :)

I love your videos and your delivery. In your spring wardrobe you mentioned the beige cross over bag. How do you like it? I haven't been brave enough to purchase a good purse, or even identify what kind of a purse is good for me, but would love to know how it works for you and your comments. Also, I've been looking for your summer capsule wardrobe video. Will there be one! I adore your site, your points of view, and your outlook on life. Thanks a million for sharing! P.S. I bought Courtney's microcourse for my first capsule wardrobe, now on my second. It was truly helpful. I'm going to change the length of months, too. Summer came a month early and I suffered in the heat at first and 'cheated' by grabbing cooler items, eventually. I wish I had taken the time to start over in June instead of July. And as Courtney says, "This is not about suffering!" Thank you again.
@MyGreenCloset
@MyGreenCloset 9 жыл бұрын
Claudia Draper Thank you!! I like the beige cross body bag, but honestly it's slightly too small and a little poorer quality than I was hoping for so I wouldn't really recommend it. However if you are looking for a good quality, functional purse I highly recommend Matt & Nat mattandnat.com/. I've used their bags for over 10 years, they have a great quality vegan leather, good pocket options/organization, and nice designs. The beige bag was one of the first bags I bought that was a different brand and I think in the future I'm just going to stick with Matt & Nat because I've always been really happy with their purses. They also have a ton of different styles and options. I think when figuring out the kind of purse you want it's good to consider what you usually carry around to make sure it will all fit, how you like to wear it (cross-body, hand-held etc.), what outfits you'll usually be wearing it with (work, casual, etc.), and then colour and style. Hope that helps a bit! Purses can be tricky and sometimes you have to use different styles to see which you like best. My summer capsule wardrobe video will be up very soon! I'm hoping to post it on Monday if I can finish editing in time :)

such great tips! i have been loving my first capsule wardrobe. i am only doing it for the office so i love your comments around making project 333 work for your needs and lifestyle. it definitely shouldn't be about rules and guilt. i was only bored with my capsule once (near the end of the 2 month mark) but i used that time to start planning out my next capsule and i found that process got me excited about the concept again and i was able to look at my current capsule in a new light. i found myself wearing combinations i would have never worn before and also gravitated a lot to pieces that i thought i wouldn't get much wear out of. it has been a great experience and i am definitely going to continue. :)

petitepearstyle Really happy to hear you're loving your capsule and are going to continue with it! It's so true what you said about seeing your capsule in a new light, I was really surprised how having less clothing can actually make you more creative with outfit combinations.

I follow a 64 piece "capsule" all seasons year round... My number comes from 52 weeks a year plus 12 months ( how's that formula😁)...But I had way too much because I used clothes shopping as trauma therapy.I enjoyed the video thank you very much.With love from South Africa

Hi!, so one of the things I am wondering about is how you go about washing the clothes and still having enough options to choose from? Because I usually wait till the washing machine is full before I wash all the clothes in one go, and so, I am not sure if this is going to really work for me? Or maybe the solution would be to put multiple basic items in the collection? Thank you for all your sharing, I enjoy working around my first capsule wardrobe with you.

33 seems like a lot of pieces unless you're also counting lingerie and undergarments? I got my wardrobe down to 13 pieces (outergarments). I'm also following Elizabeth Withey and wearing the same dress every day. (I'm on day 18). :) It's an LBD I made, so I know it can withstand daily wear. I dress it up for evening and dress it down for daytime. When it starts looking ragged or worn out, I'll donate it and make another one. Great video, thanks for the interesting analysis.

Are you familiar with the Daily Connoisseur and her concept of a capsule - the Ten Item Wardrobe? I think that her method is really attainable for people who have experience with P333 but also more sustainable for most wardrobes in the long term. My biggest change to the rules has been to forget about capsules from about January - March. It's just too cold and outdoor dressing is overwhelmingly about function rather than style.

I wear the same clothes year round, so that means i'd have to settle on 130 items? In the fall and winter, i just throw a hoodie or a sweater over my regular t-shirts and i wear some kind of boots instead of sandals or sneakers.

No, most of the items carry over each season. Only the very seasonal pieces get packed away, eg. shorts in winter, warm coat in summer, etc.

How often do you refill your 33 items either because it is damaged or faded? Do you purchase the same item or try something new?

Is it okay to have just these colours: Black, grey(I am thinking beige), pink(ideally peach because I'm warm) and wine red.. Also I'm more neutral than warm.. But I'm definitely not cool. Identity crisis 😂 Won't it look like I'm the girl who wears pink all the time

Do you have any tips for people that are not that interested in fashion but don't want to look like a hot mess? I need to wear business casual clothing for work but I am VERY casual at home and on weekends. I am a T-shirt & Jeans type of person. I struggle with my work wardrobe. I feel like I can easily get away with 33 items but I don't know how to pick new items that will work and be nice enough for work. I often feel like a slob at work.

Erin Kimmel Have you looked into the idea of uniform dressing? Basically it involves finding an outfit or look that you like and is comfortable and then just having slight variations of that (maybe different colors/prints, materials, design details etc.) which all go together. It can take some time to figure out at first but once you have your 'uniform' you're set! Some people even take it a step further to wearing the exact same outfit everyday, this is a great article about that if you're interested www.harpersbazaar.com/culture/features/a10441/why-i-wear-the-same-thing-to-work-everday/ My tips are to make a list of items you like to wear and items you don't. For example maybe you prefer button-up shirts or like flared skirts but not pencil skirts, or maybe you don't like wearing skirts at all. Then look online for outfits that you think look nice, Pinterest is great for this, you can try searching for things like, 'casual business outfit combinations' collect a few images of outfits you could see yourself wearing for inspiration and then try to find similar pieces (you might even be able to build outfits around pieces you already own). If you feel like you need to buy some new items, I'd recommend trying on a lot of different styles/colours/cuts (even if you think they might not look good, sometimes you'll be pleasantly surprised), it can be time consuming and frustrating but once you find the styles you like you don't have to do it again! It takes an initial investment of time and energy to find what's going to work for you, but when have your 'uniform' figured out it will make shopping a lot easier! If you want to incorporate colour, I'd recommend deciding on either tops or bottoms (tops is easier to find) and keeping everything else neutral, it will make mixing and matching easier. Also if you are in a store and having troubling putting together outfits look at the mannequins and ask the staff for tips, they see tons of different outfit combinations and can have really good suggestions. Hope you find that helpful! Best wishes :)

Wow that was an incredible article. I couldn't bring myself to wear the exact same thing every day but I get the idea. I sort of already do it, maybe I just need to give myself permission to be satisfied with my usual and dump the rest that doesn't work. The usual is sleeveless shirt + sheer top or cardigan & pants for summer, tee + cardigan & pants for spring/fall, and long sleeve + heavy sweater & pants for winter. Thank you also for the tip about incorporating color in pants or bottoms but not both. I generally don't like colored bottoms but I have some awesome fuchsia pants that fit really well. Unfortunately I only wear them with one particular shirt and they don't mix well with anything else. Once they've worn out I won't do that again :) Wish I had gotten them in black or navy, lesson learned. Thank you so much for the tips, that does give me a lot to think about. Your channel is great. Although I'm not majorly in to fashion I do want to look presentable. Your style is right up my alley.

And actually, now that I think of it, if I were to improve the quality of the basic items I buy as I replace things, I may be happier with the overall look and feel of my wardrobe.

No, a lot of it stays the same. It depends on the season but I think probably about 50% of the items carry over from the previous season. The rest go into storage for the next seasons.
