This 1965 NASA Film looks at the preparations for the Apollo Program and how the groundwork was laid for this during the Gemini Program. It starts with the major milestones of the Gemini program including manned missions, space walks, and longer periods in space for astronauts. It then looks at the development of the Saturn I rocket with footage of its components, the testing of the different components, and some launches. After this, there is detailed footage of the newly developed Saturn V rocket, including its stages and components being tested. It ends with some large construction sites at Cape Canaveral that will be needed to accommodate the eventual start of the lunar missions. This includes a new launch complex as well as the testing of the rocket transporters.

Ladish Forging in Cudahy Wisconsin made parts for every space shot from the first Satellites up the through the current Orion program to return to the moon. Premier forgers of Aerospace grade titanium, also one of the biggest ring segment rollers on the planet, for making rocket casings and assorted rolled equipment. Fascinating place to work, just outside of Milwaukee Wisconsin. I retired in 2017 after 25+ years as a Union Blacksmith. Saw some interesting National Defense and Aerospace work when I was at Ladish. (Now known as ATI Cudahy Forging)

"Shading"! Was it and is it still worth it...Exploration of Outer space? Yes! I think so. So many great things of now as well as the past in our modern world since the 20th Century have come from the process of exploring...and that includes outer space. So much technology and very smart people from all over the world have made their contributions to things surrounding space exploration...the Early Years of NASA in manned space flights will always be great landmarks...Project Gemini was one of them. Many famous American astronauts came from it. Thanks, Periscope Films for another classic space film!

I think this guy's voice sounds familiar. I'm almost certain he was narrating every single short films that I slept through in "Drivers Ed" way, way back in high school in the late 70s.

And much of the engineering calculations done with slide rules. Smart people. I had the opportunity to visit the michoud assembly plant twice at age 11. The info on space flight control shall remain secret, whether manned or unmanned. Secret of engineering necessary to excape earth's gravity to a complete standstill on, say the moon, then gaining the speed to escape the moon's gravity and return to earth and stand still shall remain secret until someone else learns such knowledge for themselves. As shown, the actual flights were a final small step, but on the biggest of all observations by mankind (some say by others, too). Then, to watch it all dissolve. Such a time to be alive. If you were, I hope you were paying attention.

Space only exists in the minds of those that have been programmed. Nobody has ever passed through the firmament.
