You cannot achieve 1/2000, 1/4000 speeds with cloth focal plane shutters. Leica would have had to change to vertical metal shutters to achieve the higher speeds.

They did make it with a metal shutter and with 1/2000th. It’s called the Zeiss ZM

Greg Turner Zeiss is not Leica. Notice they are not alphabetically spelled the same either 😂

I have an M7. It’s awesome! I love it. I’ll be honest… anyone saying they can’t pass down an M7 to their grandchild is wild. It’s tech from 2002. It’s not complicated. There will ALWAYS be some dude in a garage fixing them. It’s actually harder to fix an original M6 right now because Leica made an announcement recently that they no longer have parts for the original M6 light meter. Still have the M7 though 😏 either way… any camera you buy should not be predicated on that. Anything can be fixed

Greetings: I came across your channel while looking for reviews on the Leica M7. You were immediately interesting to me because like you, I just recently received my Intrepid 4x5 Limited Edition. I would like to see more reviews on both systems. Continued happiness and success to you and yours. Chaps

Nice video. Thanks. I’ve been shooting one for a long time. Only problems I’ve had is some work done on the release. FYI there is a nice little book on the camera called “Leica M7 Handbook” by Jonathan Eastland. I bought a used copy and it had lots of info. My M7 (Charlene) has been through hundreds of rolls and keeps on going! Good to see younger gen enjoying film. Mark

For some reason I just all of a sudden remembered you from Twitter ages ago, I'm not sure how I found you the first time but I was obsessed, you posted hilarious videos on youtube and lady gaga covers/dances. I recall there was some type of dispute between your twitter name being made before the company Advil made an account, lol. It was fun remembering you again.

a solution for the 1/1000th of a second problem might be as well buying a nikon f3 or canon F1new so you get the 1/2000th of a second on a electronic shutter camera. you might not be aware of this but, on a cloth shutter there's no way to go up to 1/2000th of a second not even for a so sophisticated and experienced company as leica ( at least back in the day) the reason why canon and nikon could go to higher shutter speeds in the early 80's was the used of titanium shutters instead of cloth. why leica didn't used a metal shutter on the M7 although it was released in the 2002 in a era were the technology they were including was outdated even for film cameras for more than 20 years? (consider that by 2002 the nikon f100 had been on the market for 3 years to mention some)

I just got one in yesterday and I already like it way more than the M6 without even using it :D Will see if I like it as much as the Minolta CLE but it's definitely a contender for my favorite metered M-mount body.

You hit the nail on the head re: the limit of 1/1000th of a second! I never understood the need of 2 and 4 second shutter speeds with bulb mode. I shoot mostly Portra 800 rated at 400 and during a sunny day I’m often metering at 1/1000th at f11 unless I remember to bring my ND (which doesn’t fit when I have my lens hood on). Such a boneheaded decision on Leica’s part.
@ComGoBoo4 жыл бұрын
The focal plane cloth shutter is the limiting part here. Apparently it is not possible to design one that has a higher shutter speed than 1/1000. You would have to make the shutter out of metal, which would have made it louder (at the time) which Leica did not want.

Me particularly wouldn’t sell one or another both cameras amazing and work a bit differently, saying that amazing investment and you can shoot both them at same time with different type of film like you said in your video, oh one more thing I would give a Fuck what people think about M7 most importantly is that you enjoying it and love it

Very good arguments, I don’t agree at all with the “passing down to my kids” type, those should be buying gold not cameras, I don’t own the M7 but I do have a couple of digital Leicas, A mode is great I also use the technique you showed here to get readings of a place

Real awesome video man super informative and clear - keep up the good work and also your awesome instagram account. By the way the limit on shutter speed is down to the use of a cloth shutter, for some reason only a technician can explain they can’t make it go faster than 1/1000 versus a metal shutter. Cheers, Neil (neilkashphoto)

Why does everybody trip about the circuit board? Doesn’t Leica still service these things anyway and why is it always assumed that one day an electronic board is going to die no matter what?
