You probably won't believe this but this is the exact same architecture I designed for file uploads 1 year ago for the company that I am working in. Now seeing YOU also created the same architecture makes me finally believe that I CAN code/architect a good software. Loved it!

It's really simple lol. Nothing special about it.

@@jordixboy this comment triggers a strong feeling of discomfort for me. You could have congratulated OP on his feeling of success and progress. Instead you invalidated it. Was that necessary?
@TaoOfStuff
@TaoOfStuff Жыл бұрын
@@Sammi84 It's not even true. It is true that there's nothing particularly special about the code itself, but if you architected a solution this clean, taking into account the various security concerns, minimizing cloud costs (as in the egress charges Theo referenced, etc.), that is actually special. Go look at most of the libraries that do this, they do it badly. We're engineers, which means that solving the problem is the baseline--but solving it *well* is the goal. If you architected and built something like this, you should feel proud.

A useful feature for file uploaders is a checksum that can be confirmed on both client and server that the file has survived the end to end journey unmodified. If dealing with really large uploads... chunking the uploads and doing checksum verification progressively is also a really useful feature.

That‘s a mid take tbh. I would have never know about him if it wasn‘t for this Video, also afaik KZbin will not show the Video to as many people after a few days, so it will get less traction.

Hey Theo, are there bad react design principles that are generally promoted, similar to how object-oriented stuff was widely promoted for such a long time even though it was quite bad and just added boilerplate.

I have been learning a lot from/with Josh the last 6 months or so (I say "with" because often he makes videos where he is learning the same stuff that I am already learning on my own and I use his videos as a check if I am understanding things properly) and he definitively deserves to become one of the most popular creators in the youtube dev space.

What's the issue associated with using just a signed upload url? What benefit does the generated policy provide? Or are they the same thing?

I don’t quite understand how this is simpler or superior to generating the presigned post on your own server and using it on the front end. What am I missing?

Ur right making presigned urls is very easy. It’s literally just an s3 wrapper with less features.

I think that's the only way tech channels can thrive today. In 2023 there are infinite knowledge sources, so a pure informatice channel does not appeal anymore. They gotta hype it up to grab attention
