How to optimise CachyOS for GAMING!

i'm speechless. just tried cachyOS for the first time. first game i've tried , overwatch 2.. i can't belive how smooth this is. The command to skip shaders cleanup also helped a lot, i didn't have a single stutter, my FPS are stable like they never were in the last years, and for the first time i could enable nvidia reflex on linux. I'm blown away. I mean, i was using arch all the time, i might have done dozens of manual installs, but i'm sure as hell i was not configuring my system like cachyOS devs. Thanks for this dude! a lot!

I switched from Windows 11 to Linux about two weeks ago. I tested several distributions on my modest hardware (RX 580 + Ryzen 5 3600 + 16GB RAM), including Garuda, Nobara, Bazzite, and Cachy. Interestingly, even though I followed the instructions from Cachy's videos, I experienced better performance using Garuda and Bazzite (measured using Mangohud). I then decided to install Arch Linux with the Zen kernel (arch install script). Despite some installation challenges, it was worth the effort. To my surprise, it performed slightly better than Cachy in most games, offering more stability and fluidity. I tested several games, including Diablo 4 from GamePass, CS2, Minecraft, Palworld, and Cyberpunk 2077. Overall, I enjoyed using Arch Linux and even managed to run some mobile games through Waydroid, such as TFT and Honkai Star Rail. In my tests, most games ran better on Linux than on Windows 11. Cyberpunk 2077, in particular, showed remarkable improvement with approximately 20% higher FPS. Curiously, Counter-Strike 2 was the only game that performed worse than on Windows. As I'm still learning the ropes of Linux, I'm being cautious to avoid breaking my Arch Linux installation.

For the ICC profile on monitors you can get the file on most monitors from the manufacturers site. They typically package them with the windows drivers.

Hi Max, I hope you'll do a video about AM5 CPUs in Cachy. There is something huge in the way actual 9000X got the promised uplift on Clear Linux and Cachy but not on Windows, and when X3D will be out I would be surprised if best gaming benchmarks would not be by far on Cachy. People complain a lot about how they get only 5% uplift on Windows with no clue that on optimized Linux distros they could get almost 18%. If it happens again with X3D versions (and if Moore's Law Is Dead is right) there could be an even more massive difference between gaming on Windows and on Linux using next AMD CPUs. Such video could motivate a lot to migrate. ^^

Some games has small DXVK cache, but some such as apex have like above 10 GB, so disabling pre cache for that might be bad

Great video and I will definitely be sharing with others to help them when switching from Windows. You might be able to simplify some less obvious shortcuts for new users by utilizing micro instead of nano. Micro uses the more common keyboard shortcuts for the system.

From my experience since using now endeavourOs(now recently using cachy repos for their kernels) for some months, prefer to use pacman, avoid aur/aur helpers if possible. Updates about once a week, its ok for like 2 weeks or bit more(it will only increase chance of breakage, not mean it will just break) but if apps fail to install a refresh(pacamn - Sy)/update(pacman - Syu) might be required. If possible do backups, snapshots/data backup.

I think the reason you are getting these dependency questions is because you are using Paru, and also searching AUR repositories, as well as not using the specific full name of the package you are trying to install (cachyos-gaming-meta vs gaming-meta)

Discord Community is very strong. I used it. Also undervolting Script for Nvidia Cards works to. Awesome. But for my strong system... Windows still has about 10-20% more FPS and far more stable FPS. For my Game selection. 367 Games only in Steam Account and Most are A Titels. But time come where Linux can be better. And very much Games have better FPS.

I have now tested Path of Exile extensively under Windows11 and CachyOs for 1 week each. CachyOs is far superior to windwos here. The game runs absolutely trouble-free and very smoothly

Great vid once again - thanks a lot I just want to make sure i understand something : Once you install Proton experimental rolling release, for every game that you want to play you should go to their settings and in the compatibility tab you enable "force the use of a specific steam play compatibility tool" and select proton experimental is thatcorrect ? What confused me a littlie is that we install proton experimental but in compatibilty you recommended to stay on proton cachy os - in doing that aren't we ignoring and not using the experimental?

can you please explain in more detail why a shared ntfs partition (wich you would import as a steam library) is not recommended for a windows/linux dual boot? to my knowledge, nfts-3g does not manipulate ntfs permissions, so a shared ntfs partition should be usable under both windows and linux without any problems. i think this scenario is crucial for a lot of people.

I keep getting this weird issue where as soon as I boot up a game, it is at a capped 144fps with vsync enabled. After a few seconds, the fps will lower to around 100, sometimes as low as 68-72. I have double checked that I don't have any power saving features enabled, I put my GPU in P0 (it was in P8 before so I thought it could be affecting it) to no avail. I also did everything in this video and I am getting the same issue. The game in question is actually my own that I am developing with Love2D. If I open a blank project that does nothing but print the FPS on the screen, this issue persists.

Dude i looked every where about this splitlock and how to do it and couldn't find any leads on google for some reason thank you can you also show us how to use the controller with some games for example batman arkham city doesn't recognize my DUALSENSE on heroic launcher the same happen for a game like blasphemous is there a way around it and also kingdom hearts games they don't even work for cashyOS these are the examples that made me switch back to windows for the moment untill i see some kind of solution at least splitlock solution is here only the other 2 issues remain for now
