Those are some crazy highways. No breakdown lanes, lots of sharp turns, and exits and entrances from both sides with no deceleration and acceleration lanes. Traffic must be insane during rush hour.
@tigerwesti16 жыл бұрын
Typical layout for highways in dense urban areas, I think.
@FreewayFranks5 жыл бұрын
Yeah nothing surprising there IMO.
@FreewayFranks5 жыл бұрын
I believe they did what they could to squeeze that highway through the city. You can't take as much space as rural highways in dense urban areas like that.
@Tribeca405 жыл бұрын
Looks a lot like many a New York City highway. Not much of an acceleration/deceleration lane..
@ilregulator5 жыл бұрын
I live there and its really the best they could do. During rush hour (weekday evenings between 4.30 and 6.30 it can get really tight, but never as bad as US traffic. They are planning to upgrade it to an 8-lane highway - 4 lanes each directions - (from the start of the video until the intersection Basel City 2:02) They're also talking about building a tunnel starting around the beginning of the video until after the intersection at 2:45 connecting to Germany since this is one of Europe's main north-south-routes so the transit traffic doesn't have to use the city highway.

Cool! The one city I’ve been in Switzerland. Because of the annual fee, I drove in via St.-Louis, but I got on A2 at the last entrance. This was back in 2003, before CH joined Schengen, but on a Sunday late afternoon at 1700 there was no one at the border, just some 5km limit signs, plus some cones laid out in a waving manner. Trivia on Basel-Bad Bhf: the platforms and the surrounding area are an exclave of Germany.
@FreewayFranks5 жыл бұрын
Wow you got some nice memories there I see :) Planning a come back ?
@ilregulator3 жыл бұрын
Comment from a local: The Bad. Bhf is not technically an exclave, the land it's build on is still Switzerland, but the property belongs to and is governed by Germany. There's a passport control (though not very active) before accessing the platforms and the german law applies. It's not an exclave as in, there's a border around it. As an example: Some parts of the platforms which belong to Germany (just the property not the land it's built on) are on a bridge that runs over the street and tram. If it was an exclave, these parts of the street would also belong to Germany, since borders only run vertically. It is a special situation though and is only possible because the countries in Europe have very good relations and both belong to the Schengen-Area. Plus: It wouldn't be an exclave after all, because the train-tracks and the surroundings of them all the way to official Germany belong to the German State as well. But still not the land they are built on. If the tracks and/or the trainstation were to be removed one day, the land they were built on would not stay a part of Germany.

Very cool! I love the look of your driving time lapses. What is your setup to get them that smooth, and with enough motion blur? I just have a gopro on my car but I dont like how there is no motion blur. Also you have almost no bumps. Would love to learn!
@FreewayFranks5 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks! Most of my videos are filmed by me except this one. It was made by Astey Highways but he uses the same setup as me : We both have a mini mount on the dashboard (Look at delkin fatgecko on the internet for that), that is fixed on the windshield itself inside of the car, so it's nice and steady. Second, we both have good camcorders. Mine has the option ''steadyshot'' that is making a huge difference than without it. And finally, I am using Sony vegas to work on my videos, there is a motion blur option. I hope that will answer your questions.

Very lovely! Is this a toll freeway? Too bad it didn’t carry over the French border-I’d have been interested to see the difference between the Swiss side and the French side. Also, is Basel francophone? I would think it would be if it’s near France, like Geneva, but a lot of the place names look Germanic.
@FreewayFranks5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Drew ! I don't know if it's a toll freeway but it looks very smooth ! Yeah I know... but Switzerland is not part of the European Union, so, when Astey arrived near the French border, he probably had to cut the video at the custom border. I don't think Basel is Francophone because it's officially part of German Switzerland, but I would not be surprised if they had a large Francophone minority !
