Im a native speaker. I imagine answering these questions and sometimes I never know what to say to answer. I think that native speakers rarely ask each other questions like they're learning english, if they do, native speakers would usually answer with short answers. They'll just reply "cos I enjoy it". They won't go into detail for why it motivates them.

Exactly! We are taught to apply many different grammar structures to express an idea with subject and predicate and its complements. An answer like you gave"cos i enjoy it" would be okay but it would be taken as very informal. We are taught how to use "like" , how to strcture "do" with other verbs and so forth. These questions are perfectly structured to spot those things we need to master at that level which is B 1 level. Its exactly what would you be taught if you attended Spanish or Italian classes ( i am guessing you dont know those languages) but yeah ...we are taught to follow certain structures... my vison of English is mathematical! Instead of numbers we use words, particles, prepositons, phrases ect hahhaha😂😊

Yes, but examiners need full answers, not just "yes, no, I do, or I don´t" , because this is a testo to certify the fluency, vocabulary grammar, pronunciation, so longer answers are required.

We have to give credit to both of these candidates - it’s a very intimidating experience. They both get better as the exam progresses and overcome their nerves. Hopefully they’ve moved on to the PET exam now.

It's apparent that Fayza was learning a language with exposure to a lot of grammar rules and that's why her speech is coherent, she constructs sentences easily. Stephany, on the other hand, seems to have picked up 'this and that' from natural speech that's why her speech is fragmentary. It shows again that you can not learn a foreign language without grammar.

Grammar it's not everything cause if the problem were only grammar I wouldn't find easy to describe and answer questions by writing down a text, for example my problem in those exams is to be able to respond quickly to these weird questions like "tell me something about a friend of yours" how the hell am I supposed to answer? I think it’s the opposite. Fayza was exposed to a lot of natural speeches, that’s why she could construct sentences without thinking. While Stephany is a typical student that learns grammar that it usually takes a long time to put words together.

@@briansun6336 As a teacher with more than 5 years of experience, this is more possible, most of my students who learn English by watching TV shows have better speaking skills than those that have just learned grammar, and it's because the first one "know" that something is wrong when they hear it even if they can't explain it, but those that learned only grammar have a harder time "fixing" and putting the sentences in order, and they rely more on teachers' correction.

@@CristinadelaO of course that is the case. Learning grammar has a negative impact on fluency in almost all cases. It does help in reading materials way above a student’s level though. Other than that, grammar serves no positive purpose at all in language learning. What is all does is making students stutter, pause, and think about the rules, when they would otherwise speak fluently with minor grammar mistakes. Grammar is for nerds only. Teachers should help students NOTICE grammar, but not necessarily explicitly teach it.

Levels are A1, A2 (beginner); B1 ,B2 (pre-intermediate, intermediate); C1 (advance) and C2 (proficiency) these are the levels more or less exaplained, but you can these (of any language) in the Web with examples and everything!!!

I think the vocabulary Sthefhany knows are not enough for the test, she try to find words to speak. She's not answer in sentence. She is too nervous and didn't do well during the test.
