I think they understand that horror is much more than slasher movies. Some of the world's greatest writers wrote masterpieces in this trivialized genre. And some horror films can be true works of art.

They just shallowly go “another superhero movie” or “mind-numbing cash grab”. Not all films have to be or can be thought-provoking masterpieces. Saw this at a TIFF screening last September, and this trailer embodies the film EXACTLY. I'm soooo glad this is getting a wide release because it was definitely one of the better films that year.

Saw it! Loved it! It was a wee too long, but it is a lovingly-crafted homage to Giallo films of the 1970s. Dario Argento should be proud. The sound design and even the design of the department store logo and TV ad are brilliant (all Strickland's work, apparently). This is Peter Strickland's film, but you can sense Ben Wheatley's influence on the style and humor, as he is a producer.

I just purchased and watched this movie, and, barring many long moments of nothing happening, it had a pretty unsettling, spooky atmosphere, brilliant discord, and some really surreal moments. Overall, the experience was worth the price of purchase; but honestly the best part of the movie was the soundtrack.
