Please enable Community Contribution for this video so I can help edit the subtitles. I cannot stand to see Adolf Loos' name misspelled into something else.

The criminal influence of Adolf Loos on the architecture of the twentieth century is a blot on the concept of civilised (English spelling!) taste! Unfortunately his influence is perpetuated in the architectural design of buildings up to the present time. Architects need to find a new doyen, one that inspires rather than depresses. In my country the preponderance of his style of architecture gives a sterile, mentally stultifying effect that can only be assuaged by stepping back to a time before his pernicious influence was unleashed upon the world!

i get your point...beware not to fall on reactionary stances though. my take is that his style worked and enhanced certain programmes (more functional, institutional architecture). austerity with preponderance of quality materials in elegant, sober ways. that's fine. the problem is that austerity has become a scapegoat for utter mediocrity and developer's cost-cutting rampages. on the other hand, not every architect needs to be a Scarpa or a Lloyd Wright. some laid back, simplistic design is needed in order to exalt the grandiose.
