Hello, I discovered your videos a few days ago. Your videos are very interesting and informative, even for people like me who are 40 years old in the automotive industry. I have to prepare some engines and sometimes before getting very good results, I have broken several. It is often from our mistakes that we learn our knowledge. Congratulations for the work accomplished! Life is an eternal recommencement. See you for a new project. Jeff

I don’t know your wife but when you mentioned the low door sills and one of the reasons it reminded me of my ex. She had a small import business and leased a warehouse with two employees, a young woman and man. The three shared a very small office and spent most of their days at their desks. This small office has a front door and a back door. She placed their two desks facing each other against a wall furthest from the doors. The part that killed me was she placed her own desk in the same tiny office facing the other two desks. She wore very short skirts to work and her desk had no metal vertical panel at the front to block the others from seeing her legs and up into her skirt as she sat at her desk facing them ALL DAY EVERY DAY. I sat at the male employees desk one day to install updates on his computer and looked over at my ex - saw what this employee had been looking at every day for 5 years! I immediately offered to install a panel on her desk to block the view but she angrily refused saying it would be too obvious. I even offered buy her a new office desk with a front panel but she grew angry at my spending the money (an excuse, she never cared about my money at all). I finally offered to put a decorative table cloth on her desk but the answer was again no. I dont know if she was an exhibitionist or not but I left her after two years of her violence and insanity. Most men are innocent, simple people happy to work on our cars in the garage or shop. But when something doesn’t feel right, we deserve to be heard. I don’t know if you meant what I think you meant but I felt 100% better hearing that other man doesnt want other men seeing his wife’s underwear. Bravo!

Mistakes are a big part of learning. One concern of mine is that if you run the charge pipe through the cabin and it bursts it could cause damage to the upholstery or injure the driver. I know it’s unlikely, and I don’t know what kind of boost you’re planning, but it’s just a thought.

I learned that lesson years ago building model cars. Sometimes everything I touched turned to s... Likewise, sometimes you are on a roll, and it pays to keep going to 2 or 3 am. Some of my finest work came out of those sessions. Even if it meant falling asleep in calculus!
@anomamos90954 жыл бұрын
Speaking of screwups. I’m not sure if you have mentioned it or not but Never try to laminate a sharp corner. You can have a knife edge corner or strength but you can’t have both. About the maximum radius you can bend any kind of fibre is five millimetres or a quarter inch any more and the fibres will simply break under load. If you want a cosmetic sharp edge build a strong structure underneath lay down some bondo to get the shape then laminate a very thin fibre over the top but don’t be surprised if it develops cracks. Choosing the right material. Carbon is stronger than steel for the mass but it can be brittle under impact loads. E glass is cheapest but not as strong and S glass can be stronger than carbon, Kevlar has its benefits also. Another material used in race construction is milk cartons. That plastic they use to make plastic milk jugs is even used in bulletproof vests and as impact shields for the under body of off road vehicles. Some cutting boards are made of the stuff so if you need some impact buffers or spacers whip down to your dollar store.

I'm no bending expert but I have found when bending a dual 90 degree you place the piece in the break past the first bend and make the second bend and then pull that angle open enough to clear the second bend and then you slide the piece out to the second bend and over bend it slightly and then straighten (flatten) the piece in the bender when you remove it and you will have 2 perfect 90 degree angles. Hope I explained that correctly. ;)

@@BuilderCreator I saw it immediately, first time viewer. I just happened to be doing fiberglass repairs to plastic ground effects on my Ford Probe GT. There's a huge piece that went missing. So far off the shelf fiberglass and resin, it looks like tree sap. But it's shaping up nicely for a first piece. Long term I'd like to put the entire drivetrain in back. I was considering finding ways to add strength with fiberglass somehow. I don't know if I'll get anywhere with that idea, or need it, thought I'd share.

I can also see you will be loosing a great deal of interior space of the cabin. Looks to be a great little sports car when done with alot of great work involved. Looking tight on space however.

Crazy idea, if the intercooler piping runs through the cabin, why not installing the BOV there?
@vincentbaelde-millar6704 жыл бұрын
I'm glad you went away from casting the suspension parts from aluminium, the minute I saw those 3D printed patterns I imagined faults. The cast aluminium would have been beautiful, but I wouldn't be surprised if the parts you fabricated from chromoly tube end up having better strength for the same weight. Did you do strength calculations comparing the two?
@BuilderCreator4 жыл бұрын
I have an engineer friend that was an expert witness in a court case involving a cast suspension piece . . I love my foundry, but it didn't take much for him to talk me back. The cast pieces where becoming a bit to bulky to achieve the strength, so your right the aluminum would likely have been heavier anyway,

Thanks for reading and replying to my other comments. Unfortunately constructive input usually sounds like criticism. For all that you have designed and manufactured yourself (which is extremely impressive) I wouldn't even call these mistakes, they're more like design/manufacture considerations besides, you never get everything right the first time.

Great videos Jay! Very impressive patience and skills. Will the compressed intake air of 230-260F create heat inside the cabin? Or is it downstream of the intercooler by that point? Prior to all this, I was concerned with those twin turbos creating heat damage to fiberglass body parts, especially the exhaust side plumbing.
@BuilderCreator4 жыл бұрын
It will be heated air. another point to address- insulate the tube- thanks for your comment.
@edwardli26134 жыл бұрын
BuilderCreator Yes, that cabin crossover tube will be air heated to 230-270F so should be insulated and/or intercooled prior to cabin entry. The exhaust pipes to & from the turbos need ceramic coating or heat shields

I can't believe you're making the tub out of fibreglass. The amount of reinforcement you're putting in due to flexing I think proves this was a mistake- I work with grp and it becomes a lot more brittle as it ages.
