I know exactly what that's like. When I started flying in simulation-games (Microsoft Flight Simulator 98; around 2004-2005 I believe), I completely sucked at everything except take off. So I started practicing. And practicing. And it was boring, but also a lot of fun. Try to get used to making turns with the plane, handling it at different speeds etc. Then slowly try approaching a runway. Don't even think about touchdown yet. Build up your skills in steps, just like real pilot training :)

Under MLW (396k lbs on the -200s), a good approach speed is from 140 to 150 kts and touch down at 125 to 135 kts. In case of a single engine failure, use FLAP 3 setting and approach at 160 kts. Touch down at 145 kts. And ofcourse, make sure you're under the MLW. Aand, check your autobrakes on landing. You need to hit 'b' to de-activate them after they slow you down.

Ahh, I just noticed something, usually you want to use up your center tanks first to start shifting the CG towards the rear for landing. A good CG (a little infront of the Aerodynamic center but behind the T/O CG) will let you touch down your nose gear really smooth. :)

Nice Video, btw: ENG 2 OIL LO PR just means that it's not getting enough fuel but that's normal in case of a failure. Y SYS LO PR means that one of your hydraulic systems (the yellow one) isn't getting enough pressure. PTU FAULT means that you have a huge difference in hydraulic pressure between 2 of your systems. This is because of the systems (Yellow) is powered by the right engine. GEN 2 FAULT means generator 2 is turned on but you're not getting any power from it.

Yup. To descend, you're supposed to make the nose of the plane go down; just like on any other plane. Watch your speed as you're doing this though! First slow down a bit, then start descending, to prevent the speed from building up during the descent.

And the stall warning goes off, when the airplane might stall if you keep the same configs, adding flaps was the right thing to do at that time though. And then you were going a little slow for FLP 3 mode. Very nice touchdown though!

PTU FAULT can be fixed by turning on the PTU (Power Transfer Unit) on the OverHead panel. It makes a working hydraulic system help the one that failed. As for GEN 2 FAULT, not a big deal but you could turn off GEN 2. :)

I could maybe do that. However, it's a pretty straight forward autopilot! When you enable it, it will be set to hold the heading and altitude. Scroll with your mouse over the knobs to change stuff. I've figured out how it works by playing around with it for a few minutes as well ;)

That makes sense. So it's perfectly fine to clear out the entire center tank before landing? The warning will still be there though...

I'm from a smaller city near Rotterdam ;) The planes from Rotterdam Airport fly closer to my house than to most of Rotterdam though. (besides Cessnas that's mostly Transavia charter 738s, and since last December also BAW A319 and A320s)

Managed climb mode works great for me. Btw, when you set altitudes in the mCDU, the aircraft calculates the optimum climb rate to get to the next WP just in time. Instead of accusing the aircraft which has been tested by lots of people, why don't you try to learn how it's really done and consider the possibility that you might be doing something wrong.

To use the Managed Altitude Mode, you need to set your altitudes in the mCDU and initialize a proper flight.

I hadn't really looked up any approach speeds for the plane; neither had I calculated anything on the flight computers. Decided to take the time for touchdown though, and it payed off I think ;)

Good luck! And remember to always have fun in FlightGear. Otherwise, what's the point? If your computer isn't very fast with the graphics, you can always try to tune down some of the graphics settings. It's better to have slightly worse graphics with a nice frame rate than amazing high definition realistic quality with 3 frames per second ;)

True. I fly with both though. In this case I preferred using the keyboard, for no better reason than that I wanted to keep my mouse free to click stuff.

That's pretty weird. This aircraft is actually very realistic though. Are you sure you've downloaded the latest version? The FBW should work just like the real thing!

Technically, you should but it's not necessary, the aircraft will be able to hold a good glideslope with the autopilot.

I'm very sorry but I'm completely missing the hard part of descending a plane :/ All you have to do is make sure you're not building up speed and then lower the nose a little to make the plane descend.

There's your problem, if you use the auto-brakes, you need to step on the brakes and release them after you reach your target taxi speed to stop the auto-brakes.

Thanks for the tips, I will be sure to try that. It may also be down to my computer. It's not really made with gamers in mind! It's very laggy, however, I use game booster which does make a slight difference thanks for the reply :)

I'm not a real pilot so I can't promise this is the correct answer. But I think when both engines have failed, it's better to take control yourself as you can 'feel' much better how the plane reacts to certain things as it's acting out of the ordinary. If you keep the autopilot enabled though, you might be able to set a more consistent gliding path for the plane to maintain the correct speed. I'd say, maybe experiment with it a bit. In FlightGear, there's no real right or wrong ;)

Come on! Why didnt you replay the landing? :) And PLEASE, dont use the freaking keyboard for flying, use the mouse, itll take a while till you get used to it, but it is 50x better when you get used to it. I mean, real pilots dont move their yoke 2 cm up, or 2 cm down, not? they can even do the slitest movement, such as moving 0,6 cm up, which is the same with mouse!
