The service in the Suites (R class) is almost identical to that in SQ F. The bathrooms are bigger in the Suites. The beds were at least as comfortable as anything else I've flown, and certainly more comfortable then Emirates' suites on the A345. I had no problem falling asleep, and equally I didn't find myself having a restless sleep like I usually do on board. I just wish they could get the food and beverage right. Altough you can't properly cook on board, the wine really could be better.

ive been told that the beds r taken from old ambulance trucks that's why they r narrow n full of belts.. its so ecological that people learn how to recycle used or old things.. even old caskets can be used as panelling for the doors to give the suite a homely look.. thats great!!

It's very comfy despite the thin-looking matress. In my experience, there are two competing alternatives, both using the existing seat. The classic way is for the seat to recline back gradually into a flat bed, but in reality there are often uncomfortable contours from the headrest, lumber and footrest supports. The more recent alternative is to flip the back of the seat completely over, providing a truly flat bed without the contours. However some find the surface a bit hard.

I agree it looks thin, however I found it very comfortable, and it certainly was not hard at all as you may expect from a thin matress. The only problem I felt was that it wasn't very wide, so you are more likely to sleep on your back rather than on your side. I found that this bed did not have the uncomfortable lumps and bumps normally on those 'beds' that are really just reclined seats, such as those on Emirates' A340-500 F Suites.

Yes on other airline the bed is from having the seat recline into a flat 180 degree surface. But on SQ the bed is seperate from the seat. The first fold down bed in the industry. This allows the passenger to have a good night rest on a real matress. This is why SQ is the worlds most innovative airline. Which makes them the best airline in the world

FWIW, 2A/2K are my favoured seats on the BA 744 when travelling alone as they afford most privacy, unless you know both 1A & 1K are going to be empty. 1A/F are my preferred seats on the SQ A380. Some favour 3A/F as there are four windows; the other window suites only have three windows. I find rows 3 and 4 suffer from galley noise and traffic. Some say row 1 is overlooked by people using the stairs, but during the cruise no pax are allowed on the stairs, and only very rarely do crew use them.

The seat belt at the top is for when your sitting in the upright position in bed mode to watch tv. Thats why there is the brown head rest on the wall.

When ever you wish to go to bed, the LSS will make the bed for you. There are seatbelts for you to fasten over the blanket when you are alseep or when the seatbelt sign is on.

Have you flown economy recently? This is the biggest space I've ever had on board a plane. The only thing that comes close is the SIA 777-300ER in F. Bear in mind you can get two people side by side on both the main seat and the second seat in the cabin, although there is a sign stating "Maximum two persons in compartment".

The Suites bed is quite narrow, and I'm not sure why considering the width of the suite itself. It means I found myself more likely to sleep on my back rather than on my side. Although it's not on the video, you get three pillows that gives lots of support and makes it very comfortable watching the TV. Despite this, I found it very easy to fall asleep and on the three flights I've taken I did not find myself waking up in an uncomfortable position I usually find on board aircraft.

Would be interesting to see how they would make the double beds

I agree- I've had a few flights where the seat wouldn't fully recline due to a problem of some sort. I flew in one of the new Cathay suites recently and the seat was broken- it wouldn't move at all, not even recline.

This is the seatbelt used when the seat is configured in the upright position. It's not used when configured as a bed.

SINGAPORE AIRLINES WINS ONCE AGAIN AS "THE AIRLINE OF THE YEAR FOR 2008". "For the 3rd time in 10 years, Singapore Airlines has been named World's Best Airline, winning the 2008 Airline of the Year title in the latest World Airline Awards" said Edward Plaisted (CEO of Skytrax). "We extend our congratulations to them for this notable achievement, coinciding with the time that Singapore Airlines was the world's first airline to fly the Airbus A380."

My seat assignment was a window seat. The middle section was completely empty, so I used the window seat for sitting and the middle seat for sleeping.

All other airlines have the seat folded into a/the bed. In this case, SQ have proven that you will enjoy and need a real bed rather than just a folding seat. I mean I like SQ's J, and there the seat folds into the bed, but this bed is just of the charts!

I have flown BA F many times. In comparison, the SQ Suites are have a huge amount of extra space, and much increased privacy. I find the bed more comfortable on SQ because of the contours that exist on the BA bed being a compromise between being a seat and a bed. Comparing service, both BA and Singapore are excellent, although for me Singapore wins on consistency. For food and beverage, both are roughly on a par. A plus for SQ is Book the Cook. SQ win on the Champagne and BA win on dessert wine.

@kazim786 I belive that is why Singapore Airlines serves the best First Class Suite products. As you said, Emirates requires the passenger to push the button; that is not real service - it's self service. Also, Emirates makes the bed from the seat, but SQ has a real mattress for the bed so as to help the passengers feel so comfortable. SQ really takes the effort to think of the customers before corporate profits. So take your pick: Self serviced first class or real serviced bed with mattress.

I think he meant this: When the Suite next to yours is empty, would the flight attendants convert that suite ALONG with your Suite to form a double bed? I've been curious about this myself
@xxquiker
@xxquiker 17 жыл бұрын
yea i was wondering why the bed is too narrow. I just think its a weight issue, since more weight means more fuel. So would you say the SQ suites are by far the best first class you ever traveled on?

Not sure, my guess is that it can be a regular waist/lap belt, when people sit upright watching movies on KrisWorld in their bed. Like with your back up against the bulkhead.

The only problem with this design is that it takes too long to get the bed ready. That would be my only criticism of this bed design. Other than that, Its amazing!

@kazim786 Its called Turn down service, thats what most 5 star hotel do and Singapore Airlins is a 5 star airline so they follow that philosophy. EK is a 4 star right? so self service?
@nezbrun
@nezbrun 16 жыл бұрын
raphael2000, There is a big difference between BA F and BA J. BA J is not an F product. Personal service in J is limited. Between BA F and SQ F, the difference is the service, where SQ F is definitely ahead. As a pax on SQ you always know the crew care. On BA the crew can be indifferent. I love BA F, but certainly prefer SQ F. And then there's SQ R (aka Suites)... The only thing BA F has over SQ F/R is dessert wine. So I bring my own dessert wine on SQ F/R from duty free.
@xxquiker

Thats not fair, dont judge a product until you paid the fare and experienced it. Those who have flown in the suites said that its very comfortable and not thin at all. SIA is not going to charge 14k for a bed if its uncomfortable.
@xxquiker
@xxquiker 16 жыл бұрын
having it done by a machine would take up too much weight on the plane. More weight means more fuel, so i guess that's why SQ decided for the crew to make the bed manually by hand
@nezbrun
@nezbrun 16 жыл бұрын
Not really - the crew (a 4:1 crew:pax ratio) do it for you with zero fuss. The only way I got to video it was done was by specifically asking. On all the other occasions that the bed was deployed, I'd popped to the bathroom and magically the bed had appeared when I returned.

they are there just to cover some "loop holes" in case summat happens like passengers falling off the bed and breaking their hip, if not worn then its passenger's fault, else airline will fork out thousands of dollars

@brinpol "Passenge to do it themselves" uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Last i check a SQ cabin crew will make the bed for you, like any other airline. The crew will convert the bed for you and bring your linens, so what are you taliking about? Singapore airline is not going to charge a premium and have you do your bed by yourself.

the mattress looks so thin and very uncomfortable... but whenever i fly 1st class or business class, i would make the chair a flat as possible (if can) and put it back to normal position... it's easier by pressing the seat upright button... imagine when i need to sit up to read books when the bed is flat after i slept??... imagine the time the crew needs to make it back to seat?? then, i wanna sleep again... the crew needs to re-do the bed for me.. how silly...

14 suites means nothing. Look at everything else on the plane, biz and econ seat, food, bags, water, fuel, oil, entertainment, amenities, people and etc. These things add up. Look at emirates for example because of the extra water being carried for the showers other things like paper items have been removed from the plane. Lil things makes a huge difference in weight.
