Bessie Smith is a comical 3-year-old blue female Pit Bull who was found in Baldwin Park and brought to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on April 14th. Weighing 61 lbs, Bessie Smith attracts all the attention with her short, stubby legs, her cow-like body, and her lack of neck. She refuses to walk on a leash, and so her handler has obliged her by carrying her from place to place! She is friendly, curious, loving, and also smart! She already knows how to “sit” on command. Goofy and super cuddly, Bessie Smith gets along with other dogs; she scored a perfect 100% on her shelter-administered temperament test, which is a testament to her sociability with people and other dogs. She loves to play with dogs, but is easily distracted by human company. Bessie Smith will thrive as an indoor companion with just about anyone, especially a family with kids. And because of her easygoing personality, we think she could live just fine even in an apartment!

Mission:
United Hope for Animals is dedicated to reducing homelessness among companion animals through spay/neuter, shelter support, photography, video and networking of shelter animals in Southern California. It is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization working to end homelessness among companion animals by supporting shelter adoptions and spay/neuter programs. Through our Shelter Support Program, our volunteers photograph and video shelter pets to increase their chances of adoption significantly. Our volunteer Adoption Coordinators help facilitate adoptions of shelter pets. United Hope for Animals supports rescue, spay/neuter and networking of shelter pets to increase their chances of adoption. UHA is not a shelter, but supports shelters to help increase visibility of animals who might not otherwise be seen.
