I had one of my A600s not reading any PCMCIA CF cards. I started reflowing some solder joints on the motherboard right above the PCMCIA slot and it started working.

I am having the same issue on my 600 and Vampire 2. It used to work a few years ago but now it's doing the same thing as yours. Won't mount the CF0. WIth some cards it does mount but no icon and corrupt directory filenames, etc. When I remove the V2 card the PCMCIA and CF cards work fine again...

I have never gotten pmcia to work on my 1200. Tried everything I could find on the net. No dice. Next step is checking voltages, I guess. So annoying.

Got to love the Amiga! I have only got smaller PCMCIA cards so maybe that is why I haven't seen this problem. Hope you find the answer soon

My A1200 was still pretty young when a capacitor near the pcmcia port self combusted. I never really missed the port, but just presumed it doesn't work. :)

Great vid Chris 👍🏻 Have had similar in the past with 1200 and 600. I’ve been using off Aminet CFD133. I don’t tend to use CF anymore but instead use a CF to SD converter card with an 8GB Sandisk SD card via the PCMCIA slot. It’s interesting to note that certain revisions of A600 motherboards had different Gayle versions. Earlier had Gayle-01 and later had Gayle-02. What I have found out is that a Indivision A604N expansion don’t work properly on a Rev 2D A600 🙄 At least your Feria allows to boot from IDE. Mine don’t 😳

maybe it needs to be flashed, or boot w cpu extentions off double mouse button and turn them back on post workbench with furiatune commands? might need to be flashed to be updated.

Thanks for that belch at the beginning of the video. Well, it saved having to play any introduction music and one always knows that the belch signifies some kind of Amiga fetish is up for discussion on your channel! I think I would carry out a close visual inspection of the A600 with a magnifying glass. If it worked before, but not now, it seems likely to me that a bad contact or a dry solder joint is to be suspected. I would give a gentle tug with a pair of tweezers and see if anything comes adrift. I would clean the contacts with a little Servisol Super 10 on a cotton bud. Don't use IPA on contacts as this adversely affects conductivity. Okay to use IPA to clean the circuit board itself, of course. If you get that A600 going again, it is worth a fart, if not a belch!

Not all pcmcia cards work on the 600 and 1200, these machines are very picky as far as supported cards go. I even have one card working om a 1200 and my second 1200 other revision refused that card.

If memory serves, when Commodore put PCMCIA in the A600 they did so using the unratified standard and not all PCMCIA devices follow the standard exactly. Even on some laptops I have had issues with cards not working between them. When I worked R&D/QC for a PC manufacturer (don't hate me they paid me well, I didn't even own a PC until 95 and it was a gut wrenching day) I tested lots of hardware, and one thing I know is that there is no such thing as a standard that everyone follows. Every device has some incompatibility/glitch, you just need to test it enough.

If this was me, I'd also do the following (assuming you have and just not shown here). 1) Try swapping the cards in the adapters to see if the PCMCIA adapters change things. You kept the cards in the same adapters. 2) Verify that the Fat driver is also the same across both machines, you assumed it was the same in the video 3) Perhaps reformat the non working card. I've had issues before between different sized partitions and the type of FAT (16, 32 etc.) that was used to make them. Looking forward to seeing a future update video where you get to the bottom of it though 👍

@Chris Edwards have you tried card Patch and Card Reset ? Also I seem to recall when I’ve setup PCMCIA CF drivers there are 2 programs that also live in C directory 1 called PCMCIASPEED? Will have to check.

I have two 8GB cards from Transcend. One only works in A600 machines but not in A1200s. The other card is the exact opposite. All my machines are running 3.1.4. Using the same PCMCIA to CF adapter in all machines. Tried pretty much every compactflash.device in existance. I've given up on figuring this out and have simply labeled one 600 and the other one 1200.

Not all CF cards support the IDE standard either and appears to be pot luck as none of them state if they do or do not on them and can lead to some real funky stuff going down, now this does not explain why one will work on one system and not the other or I don't think it does. Obviously this rules out hardware being the problem so that leaves only software. You tried on a clean install, I mean minty fresh nothing installed apart from the device driver.
