Full Circle, I'd say. Actually OVERHEATING started with the Sony a6000 and was further refined with the Sony a6500. Once in a great while, exceptions: Sony a6600, the Sony a7siii and the Sony FX30. However, Sony Design Team has decided once and for all: Overheating = Sony's New Moniker. Yes, keep it up boys! Good work done! The ultimate handwarmers! 😎😎

I had recorded so many wedding films with Sony a6300, Sony a6500, A7III and never had an issue with overheating even in summer. I do not understand one thing; Why would I take 15 min of 4K 60p video without stopping. I always tell couples to create a scene, they do it and I take a 5-10 sec of shot and stop recording that's it. By doing so, camera never overheats and battery consumption is reduced. For the wedding ceremony, which is done in evenings in my country, I just take camera to 4k 25p and take it a long footage. For dancing and partying I take several slow-motion shots like 5-10 seconds, so no overheat. IMO, a6700 it is pretty much usable for wedding films and I will go for it!

In the overheating conversation, I would want to know how the A6700 would fare in similar conditions with 1080p at 60fps, 30fps and 24fps. I think that's also very relevant because a lot of ppl still shoot long projects in 1080 because of file size and the quality is still good. Maybe that can be a future video.
@catalin-ap
@catalin-ap Жыл бұрын
Nope, on Sony the 1080p is cr*ppy. If you want 1080p you either go Panasonic S5, GH6, Fujifilm X-S10, or others. Or, at most, Sony full-frame, A7 III and other. 1080p on any Sony APS-C is an upsampled, soft mess of 720p detail at most. And, of course, you can shoot probably 20 hours of 1080p with no overheat, due to the lack of oversampling in 1080p.

Hey Matt, great video as always. I have the FX30...and everything you said about it is true, and certainly is a better choice for more critical video work (which I realize is how you use your cameras in the field). One thing that is important to point out, however, for those that may not be familiar with either camera: The a6700 is a viable choice for actual photography, and while the FX30 can certainly take photos, it is a video-first camera. It has no viewfinder, and lacks many of the common features found on a true hybrid camera that attempts to equally prioritize photography and video. While I use my FX30 for photos, I'm annoyed the entire time that I'm doing that...the a6700 definitely does a better job in support of both photography and videography. Just my 2 cents!
@Victor-Rojas
@Victor-Rojas Жыл бұрын
My two cents. If a camera has any video features - especially ones that are decent quality like 10-bit 422, they need an internal fan. It's just common sense. I own the FX30 and work out of Miami (very hot and humid) and the FX30 has not failed me yet on any outdoor shoots.

Matt, I watch your channel, even though I don't film weddings, because of your clear explanations that allow me to really see what fits for me. I had used Sony FF cameras before (A73, A7C, etc.) but found that only having one camera at a time and big, heavy, expensive lenses (sometimes you can get 3rd party), meant that my travel setup was sometimes stuck leaving lots of lenses at home. The only thing I have left from my FF days is the Sony 24mm F1.4 GM and the Sony 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS (I have always shot wildlife, birds, etc.) - no cameras. I have done probably 90% photos in the past. Now, I am retiring at the end of the year and have somewhere around $5000-7000 to build out a kit. Prior to the FF stuff, I did have the Sony A6400 and eventually the Sony A6600 (sold them when I went FF). I want to start shooting more video stuff (we will be doing lots of traveling as well as just stuff around the neighborhood. I want two camera, but don't know if I want them both to be the same thing, or have two different but same platform. I am debating between 2 Sony A6700s, or 1 A6700 and 1 FX30. Lens options are numerous: Sony 11mm 1.8, Sony 15mm 1.4, Sigma 23mm F1.4 (though I would keep my Sony 24mm F1.4 GM), Sigma 30mm 1.4, Sigma 56mm 1.4, Sigma 10-18mm f2.8 and Sigma 18-50 f2.8, Sony 16-55mm f2.8, Sony 70-350mm 4.5-6.3. Tons of choices! I don't do any vlogging and don't see myself starting, so quality lenses for both video and photos is where I want to go! 15mm f1.4, keep the 24mm GM, Sigma 18-50, Sony 70-350mm ---- then get two bodies. How does this sound? Should I get the A6700 for walk around hybrid and FX30 to learn about more video features? Thanks!

the overheating is really only a problem depending on where you live/where you are shooting. For example I live in Northern Oregon (USA) and it stays pretty cool there year round, except for July and August. Even when its super hot out it takes a lot of processing for long periods of time for the heat to be a problem, this is for me though. REMEMBER, it depends on your usage as well as where you are at.

This does sound like the true successor to the a6300. I used to have two of those, and juggling which camera was recording and which was cooling off from overheating when filming a ceremony was a waking nightmare. The lack of dual card slots, full HDMI port, and overheating shouldn’t necessarily be taken as bad points though. The reality is that this camera was designed with hobbyists in mind, so I don’t really think those are flaws so much as normal design considerations. If you are truly a pro videographer/filmmaker, the FX30 is an obvious choice over this. It’s not much more expensive, and it’s essentially a more robust version of this camera designed for working professionals, and the price tag corresponds to the extra beef on it, so to speak.

I saw a post from B&H about this camera announcement today, and I was hoping to see a review on it soon. And here it is. It looked so promising as a new main camera for me and a solid future B roll camera, my current main camera is the 6600 which has not overheated on me but i shoot 1080p. The overheating issue is rather concerning though. I wonder if it overheats shooting at 1080ho outside. I might just be better off future proofing myself with the fx30. I also do some photo gigs too, so I liked the idea of an upgrade to both photo and video.

Hello, everyone. I am in the process of launching a KZbin channel and am currently in the market for a new camera. I have narrowed my choices down to two models: the Sony a6700 and the Sony FX30. The FX30 has several advantages over the a6700, including no heating issues, a full-size HDMI port, and the fact that it is part of Sony's Cinema Line, which is known for its reliability. While the a6700 is more affordable, I am concerned about its heating issues and the fact that it is not as reliable as the FX30. My primary use for the camera will be for static shots, similar to those taken with the Sony a7s3, as well as some B-roll footage. I understand that the FX30 is a significant investment, but I am confident that it will be worth it in the long run. I have already created several videos using the Pro mode on my Samsung S24 Ultra and a GoPro 12, but I believe that either the FX30 or the a6700 would be a significant upgrade for me.

Fuji X-S20 is the way better video camera: 6K 30fps OPEN GATE, 4K 60 etc. 10bit 4:2:2, available additional fan, better display

Try it on a gimbal see if it performs better on Autofocus and Lowlight and you'd be disappointed, try looking for a real world review first before being bought on video specs.

worth the upgrade from an A6600?

That's what I'm thinking. My biggest gripe with my 6600 is the 1080 codecs. They are garbage. I can't find a review yet that talks about the 6700 1080 footage

I would never use a camera as a pro videographer that did not have cooling (risking time outs) or a dual memory card slot...and I LOVE the SONY A6000 series, and will be ordering the A6700. Why? Because I'm not a pro and I plan on using the video for only short bursts and will, in the case of running into exceptional circumstances, have an external drive in the field into which I'll save the data. These smaller APSC cameras just are not pro level for a business. Again, I love small and lightweight, and as a traveler I would never use full frame. But as a Pro? Heck yes, why? It's your career! I would put UP with the hassle of larger and nerdy camera bodies/lenses BECAUSE I want the best images, blow up print capabilities, and rugged durability of a pro level camera.

Are there any cameras at this price point that have a built-in fan ? I would probably pay the additional $600 and go for a Panasonic S5 II camera for the full-frame sensor, internal-fan cooling, open-gate shooting mode, excellent EVF when shooting outside in bright light, and outstanding IBIS for smooth handheld camera movement.

If they aren’t gonna put a fan inside the camera itself, it would be super cool if there was a “cinema” attachment that would go on the body, it could take over some of the processing power and reduce the overall amount of heat, kind of like a battery grip that unlocks more recording.
@SewTubular
@SewTubular Жыл бұрын
@@uptildawnltd3253 Sony wants you to buy their higher end cameras, so the fan was left out on purpose. I think the no EVF is a big deal too, as it's hard to shoot in bright sunlight without a 2500+ nit screen to guide you.

Why consider any APSC camera for a PRO WEDDING/Pro ANYTHING photographer :)!!! These little cameras will have slightly less image quality and aren't built for a PRO use! But since 95-99% of photography/videography is by enthusiasts/amateurs, size and weight DO matter :). Try carrying around double the size of an APSC camera (full frame body plus full frame lenses) as you travel internationally!

That said, 95-97% of ALL camera buyers are NOT pros! AND SIZE/WEIGHT MATTER hugely :)! The Sony A6700/Sony A6600 is the best form factor compared to the Fuji and Canon camera bodies AS WELL AS THE LENSES when attached.

I have an a6000 and was waiting for this product to update to an affordable hybrid sony camera. It is a shame that they bring a product to the market with overheating issues. Sony really needs to rethink about their product strategy. For apsc fans, i recommend you to have a look at Fuji cameras, they are better than sony in photography and have some decent video features with no overheating issues. XS20 is affordable and if you have cash, go for xh2s! It is the best apsc camera, has a stack sensor and can record 120p as well. I will but order now a lumix s5ii 😊 I now that it is not cheap, but it has great value with a FF sensor, I believe that it will be a good investment.
