The Key is Simplicity. Realism is not the answer. There is a reason why old games, Anime and Cartoons are memorized. You just can not remember any particular moment with intensity in a AAA game of very noisy shapes. Making projects realistic is taken literally. Walt Disney did this correctly. He mentioned Realism as something that feels real but is not literally real. Simplicity is beauty. For context, I work in the game industry as a Concept artist.

Thank you for this, it was a great video and I really hope it'll be seen by more people. Personally although I'm not much into gaming anymore, I see myself playing mostly games released up to 2018, I feel like something changed later. One reason I can sure think of is that I don't like looter shooters etc with bullet sponge enemies, rpg mechanics everywhere, mtx and bugs.

Law of diminishing returns is clearly here yet they continue to chase that trend instead of focusing the time towards stellar gameplay innovations. If the casual market wise up then perhaps the industry can change their end goal.

I don't think the passion is lacking for a lot of the AAA game designers, I suspect the biggest culprits are the leadership who demand games to be shipped within a certain window to please shareholders, no matter the state the game is in. That said, I too lean more and more to the smaller, more experimental side of gaming and agree with most of the points made in this video. Excellent work!

It is getting old very quick to release terrible games and ports, followed by "we are sorry, blablabla". Just do better. The only exception I have for extreme hype is for Starfield. I am wearing my soul and love on a sleeve for that one haha!

I honestly have no idea how much this matters. The majority of game sales every year (outside of the mobile market) are still for series like FIFA, COD, one of the big Sony Exclusives, and MAYBE 1 other game like Assassin's Creed. Idk how big the audience was for people outside of the mega-casuals playing those that were still die-hard only AAA games. Are there people who were satisfied by Square Enix's big offerings 5 years ago but Forspoken is too bad for them and still doesn't care for indies? And nintendrones are just doing their own thing during all of this like they do every gen. Where they just buy first-party Nintendo games and nothing else.

tbh I mainly play Nintendo and JP dev games so whenever I feel like playing a more realistic game like RDR2, I've always enjoyed it as a nice change of pace. I can see if you're only playing realistic looking games from like Ubisoft or EA, it would get tiresome but I don't find it that way. for me It's mainly Sony releases with a few games from third party companies like Rockstar. I will admit that Sony needs a more diverse library though. They kinda have the same problem as Nintendo did with the Wii U where they really only made one type of game with one type of gamer in mind minus a few games. Would love to see a new IP from insomniac that's more stylized.

Game Industry: It's okay guys ( Investors ) we will spend a 1000 Millions on 5 live service games, yes 4 will fail and the one that kind of works only leaves us with a loss of 200 millions but we can always fire people to match numbers. 🤑

This is one of the reasons I generally stay away from AAA western games, and only buy from Japanese devs. Western games. Have you noticed all the games that are attributed to the industry falling apart are all western while J japanese games seem to be fine as of now? (Except pokemon lol)

I don't think this issue is ever going to change for the foreseeable future. It would probably be better to just get a gaming PC, a Steam Deck, and whatever next console Nintendo is cooking up at this point since both the Xbox and Playstation brand are being run by two of the most creatively bankrupt CEOs in gaming history. At least you won't be short on choices as a PC Player.

I don’t think you’re statement is an opinion its a fact! AAA gamings number one demand/concern is graphics while gameplay is second or third concern and that’s why i am drawn to Nintendo despite I don’t have the money to buy all Nintendo games or its lack of power compared to the PS5

More likely you are drawn to Nintendo because of nostalgia, a disdain for story and writing in games, and you want the same type of gaming experiences that dominated early console markets.

My first game was Jak and Daxter and i’ve played playstation games more than Nintendo. I didn’t invest in Nintendo until i got my first Switch on 2022 dumbass i have no nostalgia towards Nintendo at all and yet i like and very curious about their games cuz they are gameplay oriented unlike PS nowadays they become very stale with only number one priority towards graphics then story (which are now becoming stale not all of them) then gameplay. Gameplay is almost never the second concern of developers unless the game is like a telltale game or a walking sim. Every game from Sony, Ubisoft, Capcom, and even Activision/blizzard has a lot of effort poured into the gameplay.

The main reason why Nintendo products do well isn't because they focus more on gameplay, it's because of their simplicity, brand recognition of certain franchises, audience, and overall quality. The audience of Sony/Microsoft is much different so smaller games like platformers do not typically do the best compared to other titles, for example even though we don't know the sales of Sackboy on Playstation we do know that the game did not sell well on PC.

Something that's pissing me off is the insane power requirements for what is 10% better graphics visually. I mean Assassins creeed Unity came out a DECADE ago and when it came out it was clowned on for being 'HORRIBLY OPTIMIZED' yet it looks as good as modern games and runs on 5X WEAKER HARDWARE than what recommended specs are asking for these days HAHAHAHAHA and everyone acts like its normal HAHAHA IM GOING CRAZY! I hate this graphics arm race for the love of GOD please make something more innovative gameplay wise rather than 4K texture real time physics eyelash movement.
