Dude, I've been testing this ammo since its release. It's amazing. Like ridiculously amazing for the price. The muzzle velocity and the accuracy have been truly impressive for me. This has been across different lot numbers from what I can tell as well. EDIT: I'm a little shocked by Buffman's numbers. Even out of an 18" barrel I've been averaging 2704 fps. From a 20" I've been getting 2740 fps.

This looks like a solid option. I appreciate the review. I still have 200-300 rounds of the Pine Valley 77gr BTHP that I absolutely love. Interesting how those 5.56 aac are able to achieve max velocity out of a much shorter barrel than say a standard green tip 5.56. so running a shorter barrel seems like a nice ammo choice. But I would like a little more powder personally.

FWIW, I shot the AAC SMK's out of my 18" BA 1:8 twist barrel and also got 2630 fps. Groups were sub-MOA. IMI and Black Hills out of the same barrel get 2740 and 2750 respectively, all sub-MOA. I prefer the IMI as a good comprimise of velocity/accuracy/price.

I managed to grab some velocity readings of this ammunition out of my 16" AR today. For this ammo using the SMKs, I managed to get 2696 FPS with a 10 round average with an extreme spread of 74 and a standard deviation of 21.41. I don't think I've seen it on your channel yet, but I'd like to see what you get using AAC's 77 grainers using their own OTMs. Consistency for the rounds seemed all over the place, average velocity of 2673 but with an extreme spread of 138 and a standard deviation of 45.12. More data points would always be appreciated.

Let them know they should improve the loading. When PVM first came out with the MK262 clone they were in the same boat. It was very accurate, but the IMI and BH gold standards still put out more speed and as good of accuracy. Maybe AAC just needs to find a better powder for velocity. Or it's also possible my elevation/chrono is under reporting :D

To me IMI is the hottest load out of the 77 OTMs. I recently ordered a box of black hills 77gr OTMs and the quality is better with IMI. I use this AAC is more target/training ammo and not serious self defense ammo. For $14.99 a box and SMK bullets I see no down sides. This AAC does shoot soft though compared to the Hornady 75gr offering from AAC.

Thanks for doing this test with multiple barrel lengths. Maybe I need to tone down my 75 grain reloads with CFE223 since I'm using it with a 16" and my best accuracy has been right around the 2,500 fps mark. Which is pretty close to what you averaged with this factory ammo out of the Helion. I've gone faster, but the accuracy drops with the ball powder. RMR makes a good cheap 75 grain projectile. Cheaper than Hornady 75 bthp, and groups better in my 516 Patrol.

If you pop the irons off the rifle with the 3x prism and move the prism back you shouldn’t have eye relief issues. It’s an etched reticle, unless the optic gets blown up and the gun survives you’ll never need the irons 😁
@BuffRANGE
@BuffRANGE 2 жыл бұрын
Very true. Where I have it now has good eye relief. I tend to leave the irons on it, as I rob the 3X at the range a lot for other guns that don't have optics :D

So, how would this loading do out of a 14.7" into gel? Would you get good penetration / terminal ballistics? What's the lowest velocity this round will perform at before falling off into the useless category?
@BuffRANGE
@BuffRANGE 2 жыл бұрын
At CQB and probably out to a ways you would get good terminal affect. However it may give you a long neck before it does start to expand/fragment out. Based on velocities, you would see something similar to the 16" here with your 14.5" at CQB: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y3-Yn4Zohqmrj7M

I heard an audible difference through my headphones from 1st and 2nd barrels, the 3rd had a deeper crack than the 2nd. I switched to a different pair of headphones and the different in audio perception compared to my old ones is STARK
@BuffRANGE
@BuffRANGE 2 жыл бұрын
Sorry about that. Some of that is because barrel 1 has a linear comp/blast diverter that throws the sound to the front. The second gun has a muzzle brake on it, so it's going to make more noise. The third gun has a flash hider on it, which doesn't really direct sound too much. Add the coat that acts like a channel to the mic, and they can sound different. :D

@@BuffRANGE All good man, I normally listen through a pair of BT earbuds but since they died I switched over to my crossfade wireless 2's (V-Moda, I'm an audiophile 😂) And they project sound "around" more so than just straight into your ears. Other shooting videos I'd listen to with my earbuds- the shots would all sound like a generic shot; I was noticing the difference with the headphones because I haven't used them in awhile. What you said adds credence to what I heard though, I figured those things (except the coat, I wasn't thinking of where the mic was 👀) were effecting it
