I've had one for 2 years, from 25k miles to 38k, the only problem I had was engine mounts which is probably from our bad roads In kurdistan region of Iraq, and for 2 days I had slight vibration between 800 to 1000 rpm from bad fuel. Preventive maintenance I've had diff fluid change at 30k , power steering at 30k , and I've ordered spark plugs(BMW says change them 39k) once they arrive I'll do brake fluid(recommended once every 2 years) and a coolant flush, and my car has been rear ended and the passenger side rear fender was painted which usually leads to more problems than clean title cars, but so far it's been perfect

Sorry I forgot to mention, the m3 is a really easy car to work on, if you do the maintenance yourself it's gonna be really cheap to maintain, the only 2 possible problems you'll need to go to a mechanic for is 1:rod bearings, 2: the driveshaft center mount(100$) if you test drive an m3 after you put it in reverse or in drive, if you hear a cowbell like nosie , then it's most likely the the center mount of the driveshaft(Spencer berk made a video about it if you wanna know more information about it watch it)
