At my school, this song as a strong meaning. Mainly for the band kids. We associate the song with people leaving people they know and love so at the end of every band camp, we get in a big circle, with all of the seniors in the middle with a smaller circle. We all sing the song as we slowly sway to the music, and everyone cries. Because we all know we'll be losing all of our seniors, and we mostlikley will never see them, and vice versa. So for me, every time i hear this song, i cry.

If there's anything I've learned from this song it's this: life happens. Shit happens. But you know what? "Fuck" it. Life goes on. Every moment is precious so enjoy it while ya can. Life's a journey, and like all journeys there will ALWAYS be good and bad parts. That's why I like this song. It's not happy, it's not sad. It's truth.

9.29.16 : a kid in my school commit suicide. We weren’t close in his later years, however we did grow up together. This song reminds me of him because he seemed like one of the happiest kids in the school. He bottled up his feelings and nobody knew that he was being bullied. Low and behold, his suicide was one of the most unpredictable event of my high school experience. And I never spend a full day without thinking of him at least once, like how I maybe could have helped him if I didn’t lose contact with him. Rest In Peace Jonathan Sabo. We miss you. #drumminginheaven #sabostrong

He and I shared the same hobby (trains) and he wanted to follow in the footsteps of the line of work I'm in now (I'm a railroad worker.) He had a passion for the type of work I do. I'm sad he never got to live out his dream of being in my kind of work. RIP CJ. Clear tracks and High Green on the big railroad in the sky!

Really long comment that you don't have to read. . . This song always makes me cry. I am not a huge fan of huge fan of Green Day, but sometimes when I feel sad, I listen to this song because it helps me get all of my tears out, and I always feel happy at the end. Throughout Elementary School, I went to 2 different schools; One that went from PreK to 2nd grade and the other that went to highschool. When I finished the first one, I was sad that I was leaving, but I was really young, only 7, so I didn't think about it much. In 3rd and 4th grade, I made some really good friends, and we went through alot together. Piles of homework, bullies, INSANE teachers, ect. 5th grade was really emotional for me. My parents thought (and were right) that that school was bad for me. The amount of tests, homework, and responsibilities for a 5th grader was to large. It put a huge amount of stress on me, and I was only 9 years old. On the last day, we would have a feild day, and every grade in Elementary school would sing a song. The parents were the judges, and they would choose a winner. That class would get a stuffed animal of our mascot to have in their class the following year as a trophie. This was the song that we sang. I lived kind of far away from that school (as in every morning to get to school, I would have to be driven about 30 to 45 minutes of traffic was good), and I knew that I would not be able to see my friends really that much. All my friends were also super rich, they lived in *very* large houses in gated communities, and I lived in the suburbs. I cried as we sang that song. My friends poked fun at me a bit, but they had teary eyes too. Now I am homeschooled (kind of) and much less stressed. I barley see my friends anymore, but we still connect through text, email, face time, and things like that. I will have dreams about the people that I was in a class with in 3rd, 4th, and tth grade. I'll even have dreams about people that I didn't really consider my friends. The point is, always appriciate the time that you spend with somebody , and always appriciate the people that you care about. Take a moment out of your day to tell someone that you care. Most of those people I will never see again. ... ... ... i hope none of them see this ... 🐢 And here's a turtle.

Junior year of high school, they decided to have an assembly to teach us about drunk driving. They played a video where these teens are going to prom. They get their hair done, do their makeup, hug their parents, go out to dinner, take those pictures, and of course drink a little bit when the parents aren't around. After the prom, they drink some more and drive home, but end up getting a car accident and are killed. The last scene is of a hearse driving off down the road. This whole video was accompanied by this song Good Riddance. So basically, THANKS HIGH SCHOOL. Still can't listen to this song without thinking of that video.

Wrote a letter to my crush and quoted the chorus of this song in it. She says that that is a major reason why she chose to get together with me. We have been dating for 2.5 years now and this is our song ❤️

My great uncle died (shot himself) and my grandfather blamed himself. He went on a walk, probably to clear his head and was hit by a car. My uncle was a bitter man, when his girlfriend died he didn't really tell anyone about the funeral and then was furious when no one showed up. I met him for the first time when I was 12 even though I would pass his house at least once a week. He was finally reaching out though. I think that's why my grandfather was so devastated. My uncle didn't get a funeral, he didn't let anyone care enough about him for that, but this song was played at my grandfather's funeral and on a slide show for people to watch because it was a family thing. I think about both of them whenever I hear this. I just don't think it's fair how either of them died.

***** If we're correcting grammar, you forgot to capitalize the first word of your sentence, there should be a comma between 'preschool' and 'it's', also, you also forgot the apostrophe on it's, which is a contraction for it is. I think you should be the one to head back to preschool, moron. If you're gonna be a grammar Nazi, do it right.

i've gone to a summer camp for the past three years and we go for a week. every year each cabin performs a skit or song, this year was the last year me and a lot of the campers could go and one of the guy cabins decided to sing this, one of them could play guitar. it was so beautiful and multiple people ended up in tears. this is one of the most heart grabbing songs, yet it's so simplistic.
