This song has really taken a lot of different meanings to me as years go by, it was a graduation song, a break up song, a memorial song for a lost friend, a song reminiscing about the past, an anti-depressant when Im having a rough day, and I guess it will continue evolving as time goes by and I enjoy the good times, while learning and growing from the bad ones. All those memories makes up who I am, and for what it's worth it has been worth all the while. This song ages like wine.

I never thought I'd make it to 23, let alone have what I have now. Trust me, it gets better. It may take years but, you can make it in life. Even when you think you can't. Music like this got me through some of the hardest times I've ever faced, keep listening. And, I would suggest steering clear of drugs, if you can. Don't make that mistake. “I hope you had the time of your life”. I did Fox. I did have the time of my life. Your marvel movies may have not been the best, but they were memorable. Because of you, we have Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, Wesley Snipes as Blade, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. Who could ask for a better casting? Daredevil (2003), the X-men movies, the fantastic 4 movies. As divisive as the movies are, we still hold many memories watching them as kids. Thank you Fox. Thank you so much. It was something unpredictable. But in the end it was right. We did have the time of our lives.

So, I'm a 16 yo italian girl. Since I'm 10 I've always wanted to learn how to play the guitar, but my parents didn't let me.(but i learned piano) This year was one of the worst in my life(I'm not joking) and Green Day (and also music in general) helped me a lot. Finally three weeks ago I started my guitar lessons and yesterday my guitar teacher said "now I wanna teach you this very beautiful song" and he started playing"Good riddance". Now i learned it (only the chords ofc) and I don't know how to describe how I feel...finally I'm happy, not bc of the fact that I kinda learned this song, but bc I reflected a lot these months and I stopped hating on myself. So thank you guys, thank you so so much. Also I was supposed to see Green Day this june in Milan, but next year will be great! Stay safe. Edit: thank you for the likes, wasn't expecting this many! Also I finally bought an electric guitar a month ago!

All I gotta say is, I actually wasn't ready when the credits rolled and this song started playing. It just kinda hit me like a truck it's like for the first time in a while I got to reunite with my inner child who loved all of these old Marvel movies then the tears just started rolling down. I couldn't help but to sing along too, I guess memories just have that sort of impact even more as you get older too. Anyway just wanted to say this was like closure for many. Some of us really had the times of our lives and really good memories with these movies. Thanks Hugh and Ryan for being apart of my childhood and for giving me these happy memories 🥲💖

I seriously didn’t think those credits would get me like that. But they did. I was never really a huge fan of the Fox Marvel verse but the credits just brought back a somber wave of nostalgia cause I was 10 when the first movie came out and I went to see it with my family. It’s really been over 20 years. Time flies by so fast. I’m glad Deadpool finally gave those movies the closure they deserved. So beautiful

Personal Story Time: I was 17 when I was introduced to Green Day by my girlfriend at the time who was obsessed with them. So, to impress her before we started dating, I binge listened to all their music and slowly but surely I realized why she was so crazy about this band. I could relate to her on a whole new level because I eventually just loved all their songs and we would cruise throughout the late nights just listening to Green Day in my car. "When It's Time" was our song by them. I was definitely head over heels for this girl and when I went to the military, she waited for me. It all sounds like a movie now that I look back on it. Another song that always stood out to me was " Good Riddance". It wasn't necessarily a happy song when I read the lyrics so I couldn't really associate happy feelings with it. Anyways, fast forward, we both start our freshman year of college together. Life's good... until life and school start to get in between us and we were no longer those young kids that fell in love in high school... We slowly became different people. As months go on, we argued more and more and I came to the realization that maybe, it's better if we went our separate ways. I ended it but I knew it was for the best. My heart was broken because as much as I wanted "us" to work, it didn't. I loved that green eyed red haired girl. Fast forward a week later, I find out she rebounded and let me tell you, even though we weren't together, I suffered knowing something so precious to me was easily snatched up by a guy she barely knew. I don't think I've ever cried so hard ever in my life because folks, a broken heart tears you apart from the inside out. So, after months of trying to recover, I revisited Green Day again because I really loved their music, but I associated their music with her. One song stood out more than the others... " Good Riddance".. because each single lyric has meaning behind it for me. It will forever be associated with her now because it matches so much what we went through for 2 years. " It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right, I hope you had the time of your life" As she was the best thing for me in the beginning, she ended up being the worst for me in the end, but I loved every second with her. Update: I didn't realize this comment would blow up the way it did! Really I was just in my feelings one night and wrote about this personal story to get it out of my system 😅 I didn't realize how many people actually cared to read it and I'm grateful for that. Anyways, if you're wondering what happened after this story took place, life went on as usual. Everything healed with time really. It's never the end of the world when break-ups occur even though it may seem like it at the time. These types of things are just little bumps In the road of life that may slow you down, but ultimately it's your choice to pick up the pace once again, even if it is just baby steps. It's still progression! P.s. life's too short to be worrying about one person you've been with for however long. Especially if you're a Marine and a sophomore in college 😅 Much love! 07/25/2021: I saw Green Day for the first time last night for their Hella Mega tour with Weezer and Fallout boy in Dallas ♥️ at the end of their set, they played this song in the most tranquil, peaceful way possible!! 😭😭 It was so beautiful and It felt like everything in the past has led to this moment, as weird as that sounds. I just feel at peace ATM ♥️ Much love guys!!

From the day this came out I was very impressed with how he made such a mean spirited song sound so lovely. I mean, I have heard it at weddings (though it is about breaking up), heard it at funerals, at graduations, but to me there is always going to be a subconscious line (I hope you had the time of your life, "cuz I didn't"), and his pure artistry to be able to do this is what makes this song completely epic! I LOVE it.

To reply to my own comment (lol), it actually irks me that ppl don't get this. The title should give it away, but watch the video. Every person is either breaking up, broke up, or stuck in a relationship. Notice, in everyone there is a member of the relationship who is miserable, disgusted to be in it, they are glad to finally get free, or reflecting on a life (the old man), who never had the guts to actually live. To me the guy on the couch (0:27), tells the whole story. He is in anguish, and the sleeping girl is relaxed in the relationship and totally oblivious to his feelings. Most relationships (not all, some ppl love each other), have a silent partner who hates them.

Well, I do get the meaning of the song, but I'd still like it at my do real when I go. It's be kind of funny, since everyone will be all solemn, but really they're playing a song that is called Good Riddance, which implies they're kind of happy I'm gone. I guess I have a similar sense of humour to my dad. He has 5 funeral songs picked out in order; Watching Scotty Grow, Stairway to Heaven, Knocking on Heaven's Door, Highway to Hell, and Running With the Devil.

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go So make the best of this test and don't ask why It's not a question, but a lesson learned in time It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right I hope you had the time of your life So take the photographs and still frames in your mind Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time Tattoos of memories and dead skin on trial For what it's worth it was worth all the while It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right I hope you had the time of your life It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right I hope you had the time of your life It's something unpredictable, but in the end it's right I hope you had the time of your life And if you’re reading this I hope you have the time if your life

This song can mean A LOT of different things, the thing I think it means is that it for someone you've lost who has died, but it can be a girlfriend who broke up with you, your mom who is dating again, really anything you can put your mind into, its such a deep song and I'm scared that I'm gonna cry while i perform this for my entire school, but if I do, I don't care, because I'm a human being, and emotion is a part of being a human, so I would be proud for crying and remember the ones I love :)

Funny you should say, I was watching a green day biography the other day. It said that Billie Joe originally wrote this song after a breakup with a girlfriend (obviously before he met Adrienne) But the song was not released until the "Nimrod" album. The song is basically about how unpredictable life can be, but to enjoy every day as if it was your last. oh, and THIS IS NOT A FUCKING GRADUATION SONG!

It's such an honor to be a part of this generation. Thank you, Fox, for reminding us that there was once a time in each of our lives wherein we watched those X-men movies without a care in the world. We didn't really realize how carefree and memorable our childhood was until it was brought up by Deadpool and Wolverine. Now, we're working adults, trying our best every day. Some are successful, some are struggling, but I think I speak for everyone when we're all united deep down when these classics were flashed again on the big screen. Most of us are suffering from depression, and the sweet reminiscence of those movies we grew up with was such a big comfort ♥ Green Day, the heroes, and the old bloopers; they absolutely know who their audience was. Thank you, Fox, for showing us how far we've come. ♥

@@ohiosmartydempinkhat9684 I'm a Green Day Mega-Fan, and I know that behind the song lyrics "meaning" or intent. But BJA always has very intriguing explanations of his songs. He compares a couple of their songs to the Beatles and you'd never in your wildest dreams see it/hear it. The song "I'm Still Breathing" has been explained vaguely, yet every diehard Green Day fan is 99% certain it's about Mike Dirndt's wife battling cancer. Their approach to songs is similar to many artists and poets. You figure it out for yourself. Apply it to your experiences. Or in other cases, he writes songs like Stay the Night and Lady Cobra as outright admissions of his infidelity. It is a cathartic exercise and his dear wife (Youngblood is his anthem to her) clearly gets it, and is a Saint for loving him through all his errors and outright fuck-ups. CLEARLY when BJA wrote GR-TOYL it was not merely a "fuck you"...it paints a picture of the good, the bad, the ugly...but in the end time keeps passing and life forces decisions and you have no time to dwell on the past. Fork in the road...hang the pictures on the wall...but as we go our separate ways...no matter the experiences or how it ended, I hope you enjoyed the good times we had. I've been with my wife 30 years. It's no secret I had my share of dalliances before her. Two were absolute loves of my life. The good stuff was pure magic, which I can relive closing my eyes. But all that deep passion came with some fiery downsides, and both ended that way. Too many years have passed, but for a solid ten years I wished there had been the possibility to tell them I hope they had the time of their lives. That the memories are on the wall...and we never put our old issues on trial...we had many forks in our roads and went far away, but only the good lives on. Those pictures hang on my wall. I'm not ashamed, either. Those experiences made me who I am. And I had the time of my life with many people over the years. Most of all, my son, who is soon off to college soon. Shit, we've had problems, but then I go grocery shopping with him a couple days ago...and finally did Disneyworld last week...and I Had the Times of my Life.

But this randomly came up on my Spotify playlist today and I thought of her. I hope she’s doing fine and is happy as I am. It wasn’t so bad after all.
