Good reaction, you said this is so 90's but it fact it wasn't,the sound Aaliyah and crew ushered in sounded nothing like what was on the radio in the 90's. The sound was so out there this song had trouble getting played on the radio because it was so different from what people were accustomed to.

Aaliyah's music created a new sound IN THE 90's! When you hear those songs now they take you back to the 90's because they epitomize the sound that became of that time. I think that's what he meant, the essence!

Fun fact-many radio stations refused to play this because the beat was so weird to them making them unable to mix with other songs and it had crickets in the background. The record label tried to make Missy and Timbaland remix it to make it radio friendly but they refused. Tons of fantastic Aaliyah songs: “More than a woman”, “are you that somebody “, “4-page letter”, “try again” and so much more.

Before working with Aaliyah, Timbaland and Missy Elliot were virtually unknown. They often talk about it when asked about Aaliyah. Due to how innovative and groundbreaking the songs they did with her were at the time were, they became super in-demand. One of the most wonderful artists. I am glad I grew up during this era. I first heard of Aaliyah with the hits from her debut such as the uptempo song "Back & Forth" and "At Your Best (You Are Love)." Exceptional singer, songs and production!

Man...... I'll never forget the day that she died........ she passed Aug. 25, 2001. It was a day before I started the 7th grade and I was just starting to get to know who she was. I used to watch her music video "Are You That Somebody?" A lot and "Try Again." I also seen her performance with this song on TV when she was on "Nickelodeon All That." RIP angel!!!!!

Also, I’d like to add that yes, it did sound very “90s”. However, before the album and its singles were released, NOTHING sounded like it on the radio. “If Your Girl Only Knew” was the first single (and a reaction to it would be awesome), and it ushered in a new sound that the radio/dj’s didn’t know what to do with. But because her music from the album was ushering this new, groundbreaking, and addictive sound that made fans keep requesting them, they had no choice but to play it. She wasn’t afraid to try something new. With each album, you can see that clearly. She influenced so many artists and people in general with her music and fashion. Shame she was taken before people could catch up to what she was doing (she was always lightyears ahead of trends).

Timbaland and Missy Elliott helped Aaliyah with this album after her failed relationship with R Kelly. Also that's Genuine in the video before his single Pony came out...his cd was also produced by Timbaland and Missy.

For all the people out there that don’t ACTUALLY know how her name is pronounced it’s “Ah-lee-yuh” I told my dad that he said that people say it’s “Uh-lee-yah” but if you say it like that you clearly didn’t know how it’s supposed to be pronounced and when me and my dad literally argued over how her name is pronounced we both agree that everyone should put respect on her name and say it right
