A white girl told me she used to wrap her hair in the 70s. And there wasn't flat iron so she would lay her hair on the ironing board and smooth it with an iron.

Yep! I had a yt friend in the 80s who did that too! Now it was flat irons in the 90s but....they were used for crimps mostly. So when the wrap style hit u just either put setting spray on it; wrapped it; sit under the dryer or just go to sleep on it. Lots of different ways we did it. Check out pics of SWV they wore wraps alot!
