I believe that, after the long section of vocal riffs and runs, Sohyang switched to head voice to provide some rest to her vocal cords, and to give some contrast, as she then goes back to vocal beast mode with big changes in dynamics.

Sohyang cover is beautiful, but something (probably nostalgia) still makes me prefer the Simon and Garfunkel original. If you like Sohyang, you'll die for kd Lang who has one of the most spectacular voices ever. Angelina Jordan may be the bare foot princess, but kd will always be the barefoot queen. Try listening to anything from her MTV unplugged performances, Roy Orbison's "crying" or her own Grammy winning song "constant craving" are both spectacular or any live version of Leonard Cohen's song "hallelujah", all slightly different but all a "tour de force".

This is a competition show in which each of the invited guests is expected to perform a cover that's different from the original. Sohyang made the arrangement to suite her gospel style of singing, and also went into vocal beast mode against her competitors. If she sang it like the Simon & Garfunkel version, she wouldn't be invited back for the next competition. BTW, she won this episode.

@@charliechong2763: No, she chose the right song, as she won the competition. Watch the original video; you'll see audience members singing along, some even crying. If you saw the whole episode, the songs were from the West (e.g., US, UK, etc.) from a period when the invited DJ introduced such music to South Korea. Other contestants did their selected songs in very different ways, unlike the original versions; one even changed it to rap (yuck!), and got the audience excited, outranking another performer who did a more traditional cover.
