It was awesome. Saeed Anwar was my all time favourite Pakistani batsmam. You mentioned about his century against Australia A, however I remember his 160 odd runs which he scored against touring Indian side in 1989, if I recalled it correctly. At that time he probably hold the record of six consecutive centuries in domestic cricket, if I am not wrong. In Australian tour he was simply outstanding, where he scored 126 against Sri Lanka and then got out around 31st over. His 70 odd runs against Australia were also wonderful to watch. He performed well in Austroasia cup and then century and a half century in odis against New Zealand. However when he was fail to score in his dobut test match, he was dropped even from odis. An absolute shocking and regretful incident of my childhood. Two three years of Saeed Anwar prime were wasted.

Aamir bhai was a great human being as well. I bowled him a lot in nets as a net bowler in Rawalpindi during PAK VS WI 1997 TEST and also in PAK VS AUS 1998 TEST. I remember i clean bowled him in nets and he was kind enough to tell me well bowled and also gave tips about how to improve as a bowler. It was such a great gesture from him since most other players would be very angry if net bowlers got them out. He was captain than, and he was also not in good form and was really working hard with Javed Miadad in nets, but still he took time out to appreciate me which tells a lot about his character. Aamir bhai please talk more about your relationship and stories with Saeed Anwar. I wish Aamir bhai were part of 1999 test tour to India!

Another strategic mistake in Pakistan cricket was after 2003 WC. If the trio of Rashid-Aamir-Miandad, as captain-selector-coach were supported and allowed to work for next 4 years by PCB, the team would have been in different league today.

I don't think they would be in a different league but they would have been a better team with better results. They'd have been good and more competitive but not brilliant. I think they were wrong to sack Javed as coach after the 2004 home series test loss against India. However didn't Miandad and Sohail clash in 2003/04 when running the team? Very valid points sir. I always thought Pakistan was the best team of the 90s and they could have achieved a lot more. They had 5-6 players who could have easily walked into any team. Best pace attack, best bowling and batting all rounders, pinch hitters. Kamal ki spin bowling and dependable keepers.

Aamir Sohail is 100% correct. Wasim Akram was too young and inexperienced to be captain in 1993 so he tried to copy Imran Khan, after miandad was removed as captain, PCB should have gone with someone educated and a deep understanding of the game such as Aamir Sohail and Pakistan would have achieved a lot more in the 90’s. Let Wasim and waqar fight all they want..the leader would have been neutral.

You raised your voice again with the reality that Javed was unfairly removed from captaincy that caused all this consequences for the 90s team, which was the BEST team in the history of Pakistan. And we did not achieve anything after 92 even with this team. Please raise your voice against this switch of captaincy from Sarfraz to Babar/Azhar. This is also very unfair, based on the language, and ethnicity, Sarfraz was unfairly removed. So if I understand you correctly, the core reason for the team to not reach its full potential had nothing to do with Wasim's captaincy skills but everything to do with the utter lack of professionalism of other players (and more so the senior players) to follow his lead. The undue respect for the 'seniority' culture which is common in Pakistani institutions is a plague that can quickly corrupt professional sports. A captain is supposed to assert and be firm about his decisions. A captain also needs to have his legitimacy backed up by his consistently world class performances to set a standard for the rest of the team. Wasim filled that bill perfectly as Miandad's peak was over at that time. What was needed was for all these babies (and that might include you, I'm not sure what your position was) to grow up and carry within themselves a professional attitude towards sports. THAT is the core reason. Not Wasim, not the cricket board, but unfounded respect for seniority and prioritising experience over skill. It's not just Pakistan, that's what costed India the WC in 2019 as well (aka Dhoni who was a huge disappointment but was only playing because of his God status in India).

No it wasn't. It was a one off victory. West Indies literally came to India after that WC and thrashed India. Yes in ODIs they were not winning as much as before. But in tests, they were unbeatable for like 9-10 years.

Replacing Miandad after one bad tour was the biggest mistake in Oak cricket history. He should have been retained with Wasim as vice captain till 96 WC. But the powers that be in those days did not like JM and wanted to replace him asap. Salim Malik should have been dropped as he was a menace from day one. Waqar was also a politician and shouldn't have been allowed to play dirty politics
