I still remember his inning of 72* (36) at Calcutta..he was totally unstoppable in that match and single handedly won for Pak ..At the post match proceedings Kapil Dev (Indian captain) was asked about his views and he just said 'it was Salim's day'..

I saw Saleem Malik batting against India in Calcutta in the late eighties on black-white TV in my village. Then I was in class 9. He was my dream player in my cricketing days at school/college time. Always loved his batting. We, as a nation, have habit of forgetting heroes!

Saw that innings against India live. It was an unknown concept at the time to win from such positions. Something India started doing in 2000s, Pakistan was doing it in 80s, courtesy Miandad and Malik. He butchered Indian bowling. With 100,000 strong calcuttan crowd going quiet and only one noise could be heard in the entire stadium and that was coming off the bat of Salim Malik. In 1989, he upper cut a six off of niel foster during Nehru Cup. This was something Sachin did later in 2003 against Shoaib. Salim Malik was so ahead of the game. Unfortunately a great player consumed by worldly greed.

I remember Tony Lewis comments on TV about Salim Malik when he played his first test against visiting English side. Tony said that every time Pakistan had introduced an unknown youngster who gave them a hiding and wondered who it was going to be that time around.
