They said the live action was meant to be more mature and target an older audience but they literally just removed all of the subtlety and masterful use of subtext present in the original and made every line of dialogue exposition. They don't trust the audience to decipher anything by themselves. You don't get even a single second to wonder what's going on or how a character feels about something because they'll straight up just tell it to your face every time. Also, most if not all of the things they changed were not for the better... And in my opinion it's all a big shame, because a truly LOVE most of the cast and think they were very carefully chosen for each one of their roles.

Look, I kinda get it... but you are clearly remembering the original series thru rose tainted glasses. I myself find the original series is a masterpiece but I don't lie to myself either. I KNOW there is a lot to complain/dismantle in the original series, let's not kid ourselves. People complaining about things like "Oh NO Sokha aint sexist anymore!" When I can clearly say that Sokha was the worst one dimensional sexist ever written ... and that was for 4 episodes MAX. So complaining about that AINT A THING. And I can EASILY go on and on, because you see, if one wants to dismantle a series bit by bit, one can always accomplish this task easily. So pleeease, don't come with "Oh no my subtext and subtlety, where it gone??" cause I'll easily come back and point out all the "unsubtle subtext" from season one. And believe me lol there's a lot of examples buttercup.

@@claudegrenier3180 Not 4 episodes, but 3, buttercup. That sexism was dismantled by Suki, which made him respect her and the others. How about you then start defining what made Sokka the worst one dimensional sexist ever written and provide some comparisons as to why Sokka's worse than these other characters. Clearly, it was too subtle for you to understand that sexism existed in the Water tribe as they were being too stuck in their old ways in an ever-changing world with greater changes brought forth due to the influence of the Avatar. Did the OP ever write that there wasn't any "unsubtle subtext"? I get it, this is hard for you to understand., however, saying that the "subtle subtext" is missing is not the same as saying there only was "subtle subtext". All shows have that. You just sound butthurt bcos you can't take people criticising a show you like. Grow up.

@@kei7540 See this! This FOUR EPISODE arc of a one dimensional trait is just the SMALLEST part of his overall arc. And yet you complain 🙄 And btw, they still managed to make him have a real lesson about him having more confidence about being a warrior, which seems just as if not more important a lesson towards becoming a better leader. Better then the badly written, with no subtlety, one dimensional sexism he had in the original. So yeah, I know it was to help his overall arc... you just don't know apparently how unimportant it was in his overall arc lol. Either way, the live action is very good.

The reason I love Zaheer as a villain stems from the pacifist nature of the Air Nomad lore we're introduced to in ATLA and previous seasons of LOK. From a scientific standpoint, Air is definitely the most lethal element to fight against. It's invisible, for starters. Without the Air Nomad's pacific philosophy they're pretty much broken. The Air Nomads are written as the most peaceful elemental nation or they'd wipe out the other nations without second thought.

The actor for Iroh did voice our very own Appa from the original series! I believe the actor for Lord Ozai also played a few characters.

I'm currently on episode 4. Really enjoying it so far. I liked some of the changes to certain parts but not fully feeling on the other parts. Overall, it is mostly faithful to the series. The look of the costumes was fantastic and almost all of the characters looked or sounded similar to the actual characters. The fight scenes and seeing how bending looked in live action was really good too. The CGI is also pretty good for the most part surprisingly enough. Was really surprised with how much I liked the show. The musical score is also fucking amazing too! They kept some of the cues we're familiar with but updated them a bit. Really cool easter eggs there! The music reminded me of The Forbidden Kingdom as well.

I didn't like the remake. The first episode was pretty good, but I didn't like some of the changes they made. They significantly altered the character of Sokka, Katara, and Aang in this. In the original, Aang had tremendous guilt for literally running away from home and his responsibilities, but in this he wasn't even running away he was literally just doing the airbender equivalent of going for a stroll to clear his head. It makes it even dumber that he flew into a storm like that. In the original context it made sense because he was running and panicking, just trying to get away from it all like he could outrun his problems, but in this new context it makes no sense at all because he was planning on going back home after his flight, why would he fly INTO a storm that he could easily see miles and miles off in the sky? It makes no sense. Aang also realistically wouldn't have anywhere near the guilt from what happened because while he would still blame himself for not being there, it's a very different circumstance when you cause something bad to happen entirely through accident vs CHOOSING to straight up run away and avoid responsibility and then seeing all the people (and your whole culture) that died as a consequence of your selfishness and cowardice. The original story for Aang hit way harder. And I didn't like that Katara was able to stop that fireball with water bending at the end there. She still had no idea what she was doing at this point, and in the show she was so bad at waterbending she accidentally froze Sokka. The idea that she'd be able to grab water from hundreds of feet below her and pull it up in front of that fireball fast enough to block it is just silly to me with zero training. Katara was AWFUL at water bending until she got that waterbending scroll and some guidance from Aang. And Aang slamming that fireball into the ice cliffs and crashing it onto Zuko's ship, in addition to his going into the avatar state which he didn't even do in the remake, both did well to showcase just how powerful he was. The fight between Sokka and Zuko was silly and not needed because Sokka was so outmatched, it was much more believable that zuko just kicked him once to swat him away like a fly in the original because he had zero training in how to fight and had to pick up those skills as he went along. I also feel that removing his sexism at the start of the series was also a bad call because the fact he very quickly realized his world view was wrong and was willing to accept that he was wrong instead of doubling down showed his strength of character and integrity. The first episode was definitely the best in the remake series, because it very rapidly goes downhill for here, but I did not enjoy this adaptation.
