Thanks for your helpful review. I've just purchased the aarke water filter jug following your review. By using the required method of cleaning & maintenance that you showed it will determine the optimum performance from this amazing design. No more plastic bottles. Thank you 👍

Thanks Joe, very useful. An essential bit of kit when you live in a “moderately hard” water area and don’t want your super expensive espresso machine to clog up. Definitely be getting one now and saying no to plastic.

Thanks for the review ✌️what do you think of the larger size jug? It does have a plastic handle.
@JoeTome
@JoeTome 11 ай бұрын
Personally as the only user of the jug in my household, I don't feel that I would need a bigger one. If you have a bigger household and you are all using it, probably more useful to have a bigger capacity without having to refill it. The plastic handle is a bit annoying to be honest, if you wanted to minimise touching plastics, however as its not touching the water inside it wouldn't bother me. I would only be concerned if any plastics were submerged in the water.

Thank you for the detailed review, it’s a great user’s guide. I’m wanting to replace my Brita filter as I always feel uncomfortable having to bin the plastic cartridges every four weeks. Been doing some research and gravitating towards this filter just want to make sure it is definitely worth the investment in terms of filtration quality. I have two questions please: throughout your use of the jug, 1) Have you tested the other refill pack I.e Aarke Pure Filter refill? If so, Which do you prefer? 2) Have you used any other brand’s replacement filter granules and if yes, did you notice a difference?
@JoeTome
@JoeTome Ай бұрын
I have only used the original Aarke regular and enrich filter granules. I would always recommend using the enrich ones as filtering water removes all the important minerals from water and those granules actually prevent that! Buy with confidence, you won't go back to the plastic Brita filter again! I have actually included a link in the description of the video if you are interested in getting one!

Is there a reason why you couldn't use Milton Sterilising fluid as they do for baby bottles etc
@JoeTome
@JoeTome 4 ай бұрын
No reason, I imagine it would probably be quite gentle if it is designed for baby bottles. The instructions only say to use a non-harsh detergent as it can stick to the filter and pass into your water!
@wandayonder9772
@wandayonder9772 3 ай бұрын
Milton sterilising fluid is chlorine bleach, one of the things you want to filter out of the water. Using it on parts of the filter that come in contact with already filtered water could put some chlorine back into it. I used Milton's decades ago on babies bottles and teats and they said not to rinse off the Miltons or the tap water would unsterilise them. My baby ended up with skin peeling off his lips and tongue from the Miltons! Also, I don't think bleach is supposed to be used on metal.

Thanks for the helpful review. This is the sort of info that should be given at point of sale. 1. I'm wondering why they say to put the cartridge in boiled water once a week. Since the water isn't boiling for the 10 minutes needed to sterilise anything, is it just to clean the outside of the cartridge? It wouldn't help clean the granules at that temp, more likely it could increase bacterial growth in the cartridge by warming the granules. 2. As someone else mentioned, I'm wondering about having the cartridge granules sitting in the purified water all the time, and whether that might contaminate the water again? 3. The refill granules are pricey. I found 2kg of silver impregnated activated coconut charcoal for a good price and wonder if that might be better at reducing bacterial growth in the cartridge. I like the jug, but they don't give enough information about their refill granules.

I do the weekly clean in boiled water mostly because the instructions say so. After all the manufacturer wouldn't recommend something they haven't tested in a lab setting...I hope. The main issue with filtered water wouldn't be bacteria but the actual contaminants in the water, such as heavy metals, chlorine and maybe even fluoride and hormones (do your own research on that). As long as you use the jug regularly and you clean it regularly, bacteria shouldn't really start growing in there. Regarding the refill granules, in the UK they work out at just under £10 for the enriched ones. To me £10 for a full month of drinking water isn't a great amount of money, considering bottled water is not approx £1-£3 per litre which is very expensive! Of course alternatives might be cheaper but I am not sure if they would work as good with this product!

Nice vid! One recommendation would be to shoot with a wider angle, because you shoot so close up to your face, the shake from being handheld is a bit distracting. Also we can't see very clearly the product, it's cut off. So if you simply used a wider angle lens I think this would be fixed! Best of luck on your channel

Ta for vid. Very sketchy videoing but on your own I guess you are doing your best. I think I would prefer to use one of those SS or ceramic ones that gravity-feed water into a bottom chamber. That means the filter medium doesn't continually sit in the clean water you are going to drink. In Oz things can get warm and would prefer to not have bacteria build up around granules to maybe leach out into stored water. Nothing is perfect even the high-tech ones that get plumbed in because of bacteria etc. All the best

Hey thank for your comment! I have no idea how any of the components could get rusty over time, as mine look the same as the day I first got it. Regular cleaning, using gentle sponges and soaps and following the instructions should do the trick. Buy with confidence, it should last you a life time...unless you drop it of course.

I would avoid using heavy detergents or harsh cleaning processes on the components as it could damage them. A light scrub with the soft part of the sponge is plenty and only takes 4 minutes!

@@JoeTomeJoe, just to clarify, in the video you used *boiled* water, not *boiling* water. In other words, the water was not boiling when you inserted it. For it to be effective, the water has to actually be boiling (i.e. above 100°C) in a container on a heat source, otherwise it’s just sitting in hot water (below 100°C) which isn’t as effective at sterilising. Just my two cents!

@@ChannelCez reverse osmosis filters are the only ones that remove fluoride completely. They're too expensive and need installation, as you'd know. Ceramic filtration candles are over AUD$100 but they last over a year.

I don't think it filters anything. The water tastes same as tap water... someone should do actual test comparing the water, because I think there's zero difference. I had Brita filter before and the water was 10x different taste.
