The beginning beat although simple sounding was one of the hardest beats I ever learned. Took me like 3 months to get it down and I had been playing for almost 10 years when I learned it. This is beautiful art!!

i saw them at little concert in shippensburg pa at some whole in the wall band shell and i talked to aaron for a while about this song and the timing on the rolls around the toms really throws him off he told me.

Yea I agree with you on the alterations of the song Its almost completely different from the album version and that goes for a large majority of the nashville vids. I know its just fills and so forth but thats freakin ridiculous in my mind. To basically remake the song on the spot and it still sounds amazing is crazy. Aaron Gillespie isnt the best but this kid is up there and he has skill without a doubt along with passion. I give him that for sure.

it's so sick.. he's like changing the beat from minute to minute, still sounds the same and crazy good. like the part starting at 6:00 the best.. really kicks energy into it. my hero for sure lol

He doesn't use a double pedal in moving for the sake of motion, he uses a tom tom. Watch the live version from survive kaleidoscope, you will see he uses the toms.

at 3:47 he uses it for sure. It's sweet how he uses the double just for accent, and not just straight.

Actually, that little triplet fill that your thinking of doesn't even need a double bass pedal. I do it all the time and I only have a single pedal. It's just two bass drum hits fast (heel/toe) to floor tom to snare. It's pretty simple.

i do love using double pedal and hearing bands which use it but i can see where an old teacher of mine used to say its a lazy way of drumming and is more empressive doing a solo without using that double pedal

ME1234546, he gets all his cymbals for free. He pays full price for his hardware because he's not endorsed by DW, he just uses their hardware. And his current kit's retail price is around $6,000 but he gets a HUGE discount on his drums.

who really cares about who is the best? its what sounds good to you personally is what matters. aaron is not that good of a drummer true but he is very talented and even tho he isnt that good he is still one of my favorite drummers because what he plays sounds good and is fun to play and just has an awesome drumming style.

@skilletOATH good call there. He uses it, but he doesnt BASE HIS ENTIRE STYLE around it like most bands of similar genres do these days. and again, double bass or kicks dont need to be FAST to be cool, there is actually a Technique to playing with a double bass pedal. Hence the reason aaron is so good. Really its all about divisions of time 16's 32's 64's. "YOU SUCK L2KICK FASTER" doesnt apply, its meant to be used sparingly like aaron uses them. so good call man

Dude, when it comes to music (or any other form of art), less is more. Now don't go having an aneurysm trying to figure out what that means. I'm sorry if your brain can't handle that much concentration. The fact that he can create the beats he does with only a four piece kit is incredible. And if you even listened to his drumming, he barely ever uses double pedal. He knows how to make his drumming fit with the music. You need to learn more about music before you become a critic.

I don't want to start anything, but I disagree. For a simple minded person, yes, you can only play so much with a 5 piece. That's one reason someone is a good drummer, because they can take a small kit and what seems to be impossible, and make it work in ways that simple minded people can't imagine. I will say that the album this song is from is pretty simple minded...as in he rides the crash a lot almost to the point where it is too much.

wow you obviously don't know aaron well at all. First of all, hes a great drummer who youll never be. Second of all, i see be your username that your a drummer, which most likely means your one of those people that uses the old "playing fast has no feeling or heart put into it" excuse. Aarons headline tons of well respected drum magazines and won awards.

He just another drummer following the "norm".All these drummers play on there 4 piece kits in a metal band right,And expect to play something original,Dont think so.Its more about that drummer look than actual playing.Everyone plays on these ridiculous small kits today,And they wonder why thier music is so bleak. You can only do so many beats with that. All this "im gonna do double bass riffs done before, simple combo fills and smash everything around me scenario",been there done that people.
